... Because it's called XCOM 2? :P
Particularly since TFTD was X-COM 2, so the thread-title is technically referencing TFTD not nucom 2.

Also because TFTD was really great except for all the terrible parts.  I was hoping they'd take some inspiration from it (though I was hoping more for elements of X-com 3, Apocalypse).
And I think we got some of both?  I still think the Faceless look like Deep Ones from TFTD.  Particularly if they're former humans too.

Well, I meant that NuCom 2 doesn't have to be TFTD 2.

It's not even a revision of a classic, it's a sequel to NuCom. Why do people think it has to have anything to do with TFTD?
*puts hands in the air* Pffffffffffffffffffffffft... no fucking clue.

I am a bit old and not updated my "game news". I see thread with title I loved, I enter, I read... Then game site says: XCOM 2: Resurrection Bridges the Gap Between XCOM: Enemy Unknown and XCOM 2

Yet, It's nowhere close to X-COM EU or particulary TFTD, named by players X-COM 2...

...because it is XCom 2. It is the sequel to the previous new-xcom title. It is not a sequel to X-Com: UFO Defense, nor TFTD. Nor is it related to Apocalypse or That FPS Game.

I wanted 2com to be a new TFtD called "XCOM: Enemy Below".

'ere you go. Updated TFTD for modern systems in the nightly builds. If you want a oldCom that isn't a bugbomination, you'll find it there.

With how they setup the baddies in NewCom, it would probably turn out to be Xcom: Enemy Underwhelming.

It seems like most of the time when you find a new baddie you wind up thinking "Allright, how long will it take for me to break this completely too?"

That's your fault for continuing to play on low difficulty/on vanilla after you learned how to bend the ayy lmaos over. I honestly wish we could have had a repeat of TFTD in the sense of difficulty, considering how nuCOM was apparently too easy, despite the numbers Firaxis pulled for the nuCOM 2 announcement regarding how few actually completed the campaign at all, never mind on Impossible.

Yah, after about... I want to say half a year of the campaign I just wandered off and added long war.

Hopefully they get the balance right this game, from what they have shown thus far it looks like they did.

Heh, I did pretty much the same thing, though with an additional reason: I never wanted my campaigns to end. I was the same way with OldCom, I always enjoyed the Battlescape loads more than the story or the strategic game, so I drew things out as much as possible to keep running missions. LW basically means that if you want, you can play for years and years game-time with a dozen missions a month. ^^

I found that the NewCom Sectopods stayed at least somewhat threatening pretty much to the end-game, at least if you ran into one along with some other enemies as well. Sure, I don't think I lost many high-level guys, but I couldn't just wander around like an idiot ignoring cover. Definitely better than TFTD's endgame of "I MC every alien on the map using a bunch of super-psi guys sitting in the sub".
The TFTD early game could be entertainingly brutal though, although I don't miss its more frustrating aspects.

Xcom: Water immersed infiltration Unlimited?

The one that no-one really played and didn't sell that well.

But yeah, both TFtD and Xcom original sort of went like that. Hard, then manageable, then ridiculously easy if you wanted it to be. With openXcom's quality-of-life features flattening out that curve to manageable, easy, you win! But with less bugs and mods aplenty available, certainly worth a look.

I wonder if there'll be a small reference to anything underwater in nuCom2?
