Indeed. X-com is about "defend earth from the alien invasion/alien occupation, it was never "kill all xenos". That's 40K.

I liked the themes of adapting alien technology in both oldcom and nucom.  Genemods are fine, they made a good overlay with special abilities.  A genemod solider is effectively a hybrid.

I would not be so keen to see half mutons or whatever, and I'm hard pressed to imagine what advantage you'd get from having little alien/human babies that wouldnt be better served from psy training and genemods.  You could basically already adopt all the alien's strengths in EW, how much more hybrid do you want to go?

My money is on either a leader / buffing class, or a heavy gunner.

I'm also hoping the grenadier has some indirect fire options.  Maybe a mortar possibility, or the ability to use a grenade launcher with squad-sight or to lob them over obstacles.

That's Specialist already, at least in part. Still, ADVENT officers have some skills like that, so it is somewhat possible.

Grenadier is an interesting word.  It started out as a term in the Napoleonic era for soldiers who where large and strong enough to be able to throw grenades a far distance.  Later when the use of mass grenade assaults fell into decline due better gun tech and tactics they used their grenadiers as an elite assault force.

Nowadays they use Grenadiers to refer to both, I think, depending on context.  There are regiments that derived their name from the old assault Grenadiers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grenadier_Guards) and they refer to infantry with grenade launchers as Grenadiers sometimes.

So yeah IMO it's possible to have the Grenadier also have a focus on other heavy weapons.

In Silent Storm, the Grenadier is the heavy weapons guy. Machineguns, rocket launchers, and all kinds of explosives are what his skills are geared towards.

Like I've said, I never liked nucom that much, but after reading articles like this about XCom 2...:
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/xcom-2-will-add-looting-stealth-and-better-mod-sup/1100-6428304/

...I think that Firaxis is on the right track to create a proper XCom game finally. [....with regard to gameplay features at least.]
Example: "if you're in a building, and you have a unit on the second floor, or the roof, if someone shoots at you, that floor could go out from under you at any time and you can fall through--which is an homage to the original XCOM: UFO Defense."

Now I am wondering...maybe we can even raze whole buildings, just like in Apocalypse. That would be awesome. I really missed stuff like this in nucom.

Quite likely, considering blowing a building up can be one of the secondary goals.

I'm still holding out for the fifth class having an infantry-ish role, a pure badass with assault rifles.

...I can suddenly very clearly see why free-aiming is not included in the vanilla game. XD

Alien hybrid. It's part-human, that part might be brought around to your side. You can distrust it and all, would still make a good infiltrator.
This is so stu-

Suddenly.

Babby snaks.

Thousands of them.
...oh.

Indeed. I hope XCOM2 decides to let us go nuts after all.

There will be a Gamespot stream of XCOM 2 at 11.00 AM PDT (that is 18 hours and ~20 minutes from now) at http://www.gamespot.com/e3/gamespot-stage-day-3/ .
Talking over the footage we've already seen, mostly rehashing the points we've already heard. I mad.

New data: Earlier they said that even though it looked like hauling someone off didn't take their gun, you still got their gear. This time they said the reverse; that you might have to make decisions about taking your own gun or putting it down to haul someone to safety.

Yeah, I was annoyed by that too. Multiplayer is confirmed though.

I believe that was a figure of speech. He probably meant the fact that it's rather hard to shoot while carrying someone.
