This is an amazing expansion, but I really wish they alleviated the typical \ difficulty curve (hard at beginning, easy at the end).
Instead of solving the problem WotC actually made the problem worse, as hero units/chosen weapons and new perk system made it easier to build ridiculous soldiers.

I personally would've preferred the same.
Or more, for aliens to step up their game plan.

It's kind of cool having Advent as the "easy" troops, and Aliens as the hard- but after a while mutons completely stop appearing and the "advanced" advent Troops just feel like handwaves.
What I'd reall love is seeing the Ethereals have a progressively less and less subtle touch on the Advent forces. Like switching out the "hare" troopers for people with Muton DNA, and having guys with flying suits, etc.
I mean, if they can make Avatars surely they can tinker the Advent into some more interesting abominations.

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

And, you know, it'd have been easier to do in wotc than vanilla. Before part of the problem was that a group of super soldiers would mop pretty much anything but if you've taken some losses the harder enemies are almost impossible to take out. So they did sort of a mid-level challenge at the end.

But now that they have a fatigue system in place there isn't any reason not to keep having low value easy missions interspersed here and there. They're perfect for leveling up lower troops as replacements if you need them and you're going to keep your A-team in reserve for the difficult missions anyway so they don't need to worry so much that the easy missions are just going to be a boring cakewalk.

It'd be nice if on the really high level missions, the aliens just used mutons as their normal soldiers, rather than advent hybrids.

they kinda do in the mid game, when the mutons start showing up. I remember fighting missions where almost all the enemies were mutons.

For some reason they stop doing that in favor of the advanced troopers later.

IIRC mutons have a better throwing arm than advanced troopers, maybe the devs thought it would be more fair?  Most lategame enemies have some kind of ability that pierces or destroys cover at full LoS range, that + mutons could equal constant grenade spam.  First nucom had that problem.

You misspelled seance.  Are possessing Draignean?  Are you actually a ghost in the shell? You have to tell us if you are, that's the rule

Sometimes you just have to wonder about the council guy's priorities.

Aliens: Completed 1 Dark Event

X-Com: Completed over a dozen activities including killing an Alien Ruler and one of the god damned Chosen.

Council Guy: Your results were...mediocre. We must do better.

Finally beat a WotC Veteran Ironman run. Took so long mostly because I got bored after killing the second Chosen and was just playing really small increments.

Psi soldiers are still as overpowered as always. Took 4 of them into the final mission alongside a Templar and a Sniper. Flawless victory, no damage at all. In the final battle I just put the sniper in the middle of the map and since he had the Chosen rifle alongside Serial + basically every single sniper skill and other stuff like rupture and that one ability that lets you attack again after using a heavy weapon. That one sniper cleaned the entire house.

Using him made it seem like it was a Lost mission, except instead of getting free actions on kills of the Lost, it was free actions on kills of Mutons and Avatars. And if for some reason he ran out of moves, I could use his partner to give him more. And if that still wasn't enough, I could use the 4 psi soldiers to give him more. Lastly, he had that skill that let you overwatch as many times as you have bullets.

It was ridiculous.

I also noticed that the Chosen sniper rifle and the Chosen regular rifle have the exact same model, just different lengths. The Chosen pistol is just a mini version of those. Tsk tsk, lazy Firaxis.

wow, the warlock chosen was a pushover. I did his base assault mission just after getting mag weapons, hadn't even got the armor upgrade yet. Each time he appeared I'd have three rangers stabby stab him while the others were working over the reinforcements. Lost nobody, only 2 wounded. Got a big gun.

Do we have an updated Bay12 Character Pool based on the new DLC content?
If not, perhaps it would be about time to update it?

Did a rescue mission and the assassin talked at me about the rescue.

What was odd about that was the Assassin had been dead-dead for quite a while by that point.

Yeah, I had the archon king kidnap my soldier and never got the chance to rescue her. I think it might have been because I was in assassin's territory and she was already dead by then? I don't know. Never got the covert op for locating her. Maybe she was just such an asshole to her team mates they were just "nah, she's not worth it".
