Or maybe it's furry bait?
I'm sure most people won't care but some will buy it because there were snakeboobs in the trailer.

I highly doubt it.

I mean I know we have FINALLY started to exit the "Furry NOO EWW KILL IT WITH FIRE!" phase... But we are still very well in that anti-furry culture.

This seems like the most plausible explanation.  I learned recently (THANKS BAY12) that there is a common 'im being eaten alive by a reptile or some other large creature that can swallow me whole' fetish that is distressingly common among the furry community.  I guess this would scratch that itch for them.

The worst part is that I learned this on the upper boards.  I think in Dwarf Mode Discussion even.

Dunno. people seem to be more amused than straight out disgusted and in this regard it works as planned.

Fanart will pop up on sites like FA and you just got yourself several thousand extra sales JUST BECAUSE SNAKEBOOBS.

Funfact. The previous game had a "reaper" terror unit concept that ran around the map ignoring cover and ate soldiers and civilians. It got scrapped for whatever reason.
Also i think the snake alien actually eating your soldiers will be pushing it too much. besides asphyxation is also a fetish.

Oh and weird fetishes are not just a furry thing. If you take a look at deviantart (betted don't) you will see a lot of assorted weirdness with humans.

Besides i wouldn't say vore is a common fetish. it's a fringe but there is demand and people commision art with it and some artists draw it to attract some attention and potential customers that would commision them later.
Anyway shutting up now. We better not talk bout those things here.

I love how absolutely overblown the snake(wo)men thing is.

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

They have boobs on a humanoid reptile.

HOW DARE THEY! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! THIS IS SURELY NOT A RANDOM IDEA A CONCEPT ARTIST HAD, WHICH WAS ACCEPTED BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE THOUGHT IT LOOKED COOL, BUT RATHER THE COMPANY PANDERING TO AN EXCEPTIONALLY SMALL GROUP OF PEOPLE WITH A FETISH FOR BEING EATEN BY SNAKELADIES!

What is even the purpose of mammary glands on what is explicitly a reptile? I must complain about this!

A) It's not a reptile, it's a reptilian-like alien with only vaguely humanlike anatomy. Which leads to -
B) How do you know they are mammary glands, besides their conspicuous location?
