Unfortunately, it seems that the USA doesn't get to play until midnight. I'm really antsy to see if this game is worth the name. I would go so far as to say I'm a bit hyped.

Dunno what you mean, worth the name. It's not like XCOm 2 needs to be much like X-com. It's a sequel to EU, not the original-And THAT was a remake.

Just because it had a hyphen removed from it, doesn't mean the game gets a pass on being good enough to bear the name. On top of that, the game's strategic layer is a significant enough departure from the formula that questioning its worthiness of even the remake name is entirely justified. I mean, so far most things point to it being a quality game, but the question itself is valid.

Don't think so. Should it be this thread, or a new one in PWWB (y'know, this board's sub-board)?
A semi-LP frankenthread where people pop in to mention how they and their dwarfy corpses operatives are doing could be neat, but I feel like we'd need a certain critical mass of demand to justify its own thread. Maybe do it in this one until it spirals out of control, then split off into a new thread if necessary?

I caved to the hype and pre-ordered. Now I just need to wait until 1am for it to unlock. I predict there will be little sleep to be had tonight :D.

I had a huge kerfuffle with GMG over receiving an Asian region locked key and will not be buying from them again. Basically when I go back to the US I will have to vpn-pretend I'm in Asia to use the game I paid full $USD price for.

Screw them.

On the plus side I do get to play a half a day early compared to back home.

How do you know it's region locked?

Create a shortcut for Steam.exe with -console suffix , then start Steam from this shortcut.
Navigate to console tab, type in licenses_for_app 268500
Find the PackageID, then look up Steamdb page for XCOM2, see if your packageID has any region locks attached to it.

Mine: https://steamdb.info/sub/88104/
"Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Brunei Darussalam, Macau"

Activated on steam showed "XCOM2 (Asia)".
