Postedit:  Yes yes I want XCOM Apocalypse, in a modern engine!

modern engine, ah!
https://www.reddit.com/r/Xcom/comments/3umiec/i_made_an_xcom_game_in_excel/
According to wikipedia, excel was published over a decade before Apocalypse.
If one wanted to be pedantic *glee*, I expect that it would be possible to argue that the modern age has been replaced by the information age(though they are almost certainly different metrics, and it seems like a somewhat vague((if not outright dubious)) field at the best of times). If such a thing exists, then the information age probably started in earnest in the mid nineties, so I guess that Apocalypse might be postmodern and excel would probably be modern so it loops back to being accurate...

If one wanted to be an even bigger pedantic, it appears (according to a quick search) that most people agree that the current era started in 1945. Though some call it the Modern era and some call it the Postmodern era.
But I don't think Eras are an exact science, so it's not really something you can be pedantic about?
I'm so sorry if Eras are actually somehow an exact science.

EDIT: Also. 2 months (and 3 days) until XCOM 2 is released.
I've beaten every other XCOM-related game there is. I'm ready.
To wait some more, I guess.

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

Shhh, I think everyone agreed to never talk about that again.

Welp. How about that Enforcer then? My secret shame is that it's the only X-Com game I've ever finished. I always got distracted before I could complete any of the others.

It's pretty ok. I've played a lot of significantly worse shit in my high school days.

To be honest this kinds happens in XCom Apocalypse backstory.
http://ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=X-Com_(Apocalypse)
XCom turns into a private owned enterprise but most of its non alien fighting existence was centered around keeping Cydonia and the alien tech that remained there safe from possible scavengers.
There's nothing about that in the wiki article, and I'm pretty sure Cydonia is in MarSec's purview anyway.

If you check thye wiki on Marsec you will see this
Quote
MarSec was initially contracted by F. Denman Williams II in 2066 to take over the security of the Moon and Mars colonies from X-COM, allowing for X-COM to concentrate its efforts in fighting the alien menace.
Who is F. Denman Williams II?
Quote
After a period of obsolescence, X-COM was revived in 2040 to fight the Second Alien War under the seas of the Earth. It was again in danger of being disbanded, had it not been bought by F. Denman Williams, forming the X-COM Corporation.

So yeah.
XCom fought the aliens in the first war and after it was over they were in charge of protecting the moon mars and what i'd call human space/waters but contracted Marsec so they can focus on the aliens in the fringe (where most elerium is mined) during XCom Interceptor.

So cydonia was fully XCom owned before 2066 and arguably Marsec is just an independent contractor after 2066 with XCom still being the owners of cydonia.

If they remake the old games without fucking them up like they did with X-Com, then I'll definitely throw money at them. Otherwise, I'm pirating their bad game to tear through it, uninstalling it, and trashing it in any way I can.

TL;DR - I'll be playing this.

If you're looking for a precise remake of the old x-com games, you won't find it in XCOM 2, and we've heard far and away enough bitching about that topic in particular.

If you played XCOM then you probably have a pretty safe bet of knowing what the upcoming game will be like. I'm not quite sure why you'd go and play a game you consider bad, but I suppose people need reasons to complain.

If you want a new X-Com, go play Xenonauts. If you want a new XCOM, then stick around.
