I'm already expecting to dislike the third class, as it is probably psi (which should be a subclass) or hybrids (which should also be a subclass, and also VIGILO CONFIDO SHED THE BLOOD OF XENOS). What I'm hoping is that it's some kind of pure psionic adept, but the subclass remains for other classes.

Psy has been an overlay in every xcom game so far, I'm not sure why they'd change it to a dedicated class.  And I think if Grenadier was intended to include machine guns, they might have called it something else.

Since one class has a sword as a secondary weapon, I'm wondering if that is a common thing -- like we might see guys packing RPGs or AT4s as secondary items.  No more rocketeer as a primary, now anyone can use a disposable rocket as secondary?

What other "special" characters could they bring in?  Officers / Leaders as sort of a buffing class? 

I still feel like there is a gap.  Even with a recon team, someone has the SAW.  And if this does not exist as an optional accessory, I am sure as **** going to find a way to mod it in:

Because setting. (and we already have multiple alien hybrids)

We almost had alien hybrids in the first game but they were cut for time.

I take this game as being KIND OF in the time line of pre-apocalypse... just about there.

All the aliens in the previous game where on the same side because they were all part of the invading force.  If that ceased to be true... well.  Its the future, no need to be caught up with the grudges of the past.

We were indeed talking about XCOM, who are well-versed in underhanded tactics and don't have compunctions about using enemy strengths against them. What we're not talking about is the Imperium of Man. :P
