Increasing your ability to move, react and process information would certainly give you more time and options.
Infinite Endurance would counteract drain from Spell Ability.

But now we are moving on metagaming level where I'm telling you the best combo. IC you don't even know the reset is coming.

((True. My bad. Although planning my own reset is something I (IC) would have started planning after seeing the list of stuff and the directions for that app. Didn't really have time to act out the thought process because I've been so busy in RL, but I'll do it when I post my action.))

So while we wait for Beirus to come up with a plan, here's a bit of what I have planned for Tournament III, assuming this is not derailed further.

Everybody starts with 100$. Instead of me dealing players exactly same amount of same card types (3 creatures, 2 crossbreeds, 5 mutations and 1 joker) players can spend that cash on any cards they want to.

Spoiler: Cards and Prices (click to show/hide)

In case of Creatures you can buy one of three size categories (if you want to). Small gategory gives 5$ discount, Medium size costs 10$ more than unspecified and large respectively 30$ more. For example Large Mammal would cost 50$. And before anybody asks, Small Plant won't be free. Minimum cost of single card will be 5$.

I probably fiddle with the prices before T III starts, but I think that's pretty close what it will be.

These are the same as the cards we use? Maybe there is something in here to let me undo this. But what? Beirus thinks to himself as he scrolls through the cards. He stops on Superhuman Intelligence, hoping it'll give him a solid course of action. After swiping it towards himself, a plan forms in his mind. He selects Superhuman Charisma, Speed, and Toughness while he is in that section, then selects Infinite Endurance and Spell Ability before going back to select Superhuman Strength. He then puts the phone on the ground and activates his Spell Ability to cause a temporal reset to the moment right before ATHATH makes contact with Ozarck, while retaining his memories and abilities. He then uses his speed and strength to stop ATHATH, take his gun, and crush the barrel. After calling for security, he turns to Gene and uses his Charisma. "Gene, we need to have a talk."

Superhuman Intelligence, Charisma, Speed, Strength, and Toughness, Infinite Endurance, and Spell Ability of Temporal Reset while maintaining the user's memories and abilities. Use the ability, then stop ATHATH. Preferably without lethal force.

The spell leaves you slightly disoriented as your posture suddenly changes. The ermonous strain it puts on your body is clearly felt even with your infinite endurance, making you feel tired. At this very moment you are apparently shuffling through your cards and watching mouth open how ATHATH is about to start strangling Ozarck. It's pretty good moment to interfere, "the good guy" moment. You move.

Holyshitthisisfast! Barely having reactions fast enough to control your movement you leap on ATHATH, grab his arms and pull them away from Ozarck. Using too much strength, as it turns out. Your grip leaves deep impression of handprints on his arms. That's plenty of damaged tissue there, probably microfractures on his bones too... Oh well, can't help it. While he's swinging backwards thanks to excess force applied on him you find his pistol under his jacket and pull it out. The barrel crumbles like paper as you squeeze it. For good measure you flip ATHATH around and press him onto ground.

Like someone said once "great power comes with great responsibility". It is quite scary as you realize how fragile the world is now for you.

Ozarck vs ATHATH!
Spoiler: Ozarck (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: ATHATH (click to show/hide)

ATHATH exits the VR, pulls of the helmet and suddenly jumps at Ozarck (who's laying on VR machine next to him) and starts strangling him! Mr White and few others start moving in to stop the murder taking in place but they all stop after single step and marvel the scene unfolding before them.

Beirus moves. He moves fast, too fast for eye to follow his movement. On one moment he's shuffling his cards and on the next he's manhandling ATHATH. A strong gust of wind is felt in the hall and then ATHATH is on the ground, still screaming, but this time out of pain. Beirus theatrically drops a mangled pistol (where did that come form?) onto floor, away from ATHATH writhing under his feet. After moment of silence he calls out security.

Everybody stares him, barely believing their eyes. That speed, that strength... it is impossible, but the undeniable fact stands right before you. You have witnessed debut of real life superhero!

Beirus turns towards the game host. "Gene, we need to have a talk."
Gene recovers quickly from the suprise. "Yes. Yes, we do." he says while feeling his pockets, no doubt checking if his phone is still there, Beirus notes.

Gene addresses the audience: "Although this match ended in rather regrettable manner, the winner is Ozarck! This means bet winners are high tyrol, NAV and Ozarck himself! On the other hand this also means nobody guessed right who the tournament winner will be, so the grand prize there to nobody. Right now we will have a brief interlude before the finals start to sort out the situation! Enjoy refreshments in the lobby and place your bets who will be the next champion!"

He then motions Beirus to follow and walks into backstage, through a short hallway into a small nicely furnished conference room. He takes a seat, pulls out of his phone, taps it a bit and then turns his entire attention at Beirus. The cheery smiling game host is gone, in his place is a man who has very serious questions.
"Speak."

Like last time under finals, this time too we will have a Shadow Tournament. Eight players. Anyone can pitch in, but losers of current tournament will have priority. Pick one animal type and one mutation type. Last man standing will get one card from winning hand to bring into next proper tournament s/he joins.

  • Amphibians and Reptiles
  • Aquatic Animals
  • Birds
  • Mammals

  • Physical mutation
  • Mental mutation
  • Psychic power
  • Super power
  • Supernatural attribute

"ATHATH shlt Ozarck, and you. Last I saw, you were bleeding to death on the ground. I did what I could to prevent that. I would willingly give up these powers, doing otherwise would be unfair to my opponent. I would like to keep my memory of it, if only for my own sake. But I've seen the program.  It was never just a game, was it, Gene? All those people, the tribes on the islands the others fought on, were any of them actually simulations, or did you just let powered up monsters run wild on areas you thought nobody cared about purely for your entertainment? And what are you?" Beirus asks, his expression serious.

Questions. Use my Charisma to keep him non-hostile if necessary.

He keeps staring you in uncomforable silence for a full minute. He then taps away on his phone and you feel yours powers disappear one by one. You feel disappearance of superhuman intellect most clearly, as if you mind were dropped into pool of super sticky mud, your thoughts slowing into annoyingly crawling speed. Normalcy is... painfully slow.

"No. Never just games." Gene says. "But it doesn't sound like you saw much. Otherwise you would be asking... different questions." He's silent for a moment before his usual bright salesman smile returns to his face. "You don't need to worry about aftermath of the contests. We do ensure that no permanent damage is done and no traces remain. At least here, on our home, we handle it. I don't care about rest of the universe~"
"He killed us, you say? Well, that would have been reversible anyway, but it sounds like additional security measures are needed. It would be a problem if people start dying in our game center~"
He laughs cheerily. "Anything else you want to talk about?"

How dare you.

I sacrificed my character to attempt to stop this psychopath, and you turn around and undo everything except for my defeat. Don't you realize what's happening? You have no leverage against Gene, and he has no obligation to keep his word. As soon as you leave that room (possible earlier), you'll forget this whole experience, and we'll all be back to square one. Wait- actually, we'd be at square zero, because you convinced him to upgrade his security.

Curse you, Beirus- you have casually ruined my plans in yet another game (I think we're up to three).

((ATHATH, all you did was try to ruin the game for everyone else. And you shot Ozarck. Stop trying to make yourself look like a hero when you aren't. So I'm going to give you two options. Option 1: You stop whining every time something doesn't go according to whatever convoluted plan you thought up, and I won't call you out on it. Option 2: I will send you a PM detailing the issues I have with you in a polite and respectful manner, and maybe through that discussion we can reach a point of mutual understanding. Or you could take neither of those options, keep doing what you're doing, and I'll keep stopping you.))

"Ugh, I miss those powers already. How did you do it, Gene? This sort of thing shouldn't be possible. Hell, in the wrong hands it could lead to total annihilation of our species. But I'm sure you thought of that, haven't you? And why did you do this? What's your goal for this? Not just the tournament, but this technology in general. Gonna take over the world? Bring world peace? Or is it really as simple as just providing entertainment? Also, since there won't be any permanent damage, you think we could have the Finals stage in Tokyo?"

More talking.

"Haha, true, isn't it? That's why I'm masquerading it as a full immersion virtual reality, and I have plenty of business offers for that alone! But no one is getting piece of this cake as long as I have something to say about it."

"And why did you do this? What's your goal for this? Not just the tournament, but this technology in general. Gonna take over the world? Bring world peace? Or is it really as simple as just providing entertainment?"

"Now those are the real questions! And the answer is: none of your business! Unless you..." He stops in mid sectence to think. "Hmm, you have shown certain ability to adapt, since you are on your way to championship, and solving problems via timetraveling, I guess? What are you qualities anyway? Degree? Any prior paranormal experience or knowledge?"

"Also, since there won't be any permanent damage, you think we could have the Finals stage in Tokyo?"

"Ah! Tokyo, the promised playground of giant monsters! Sure, we can arrange that."
