I'm considering of making next tournament into battle royale rather than 1 on 1 matches. That would resolve problem of inactivity really fast.

That's a great idea.

another solution is to make simple time limits per turn. if a party doesn't respond in a given time, his action is autoed either with no action, or focusing on simple actions like "don't die."

But a battle royale might be interesting. We did one once already. I fared poorly.

Spiderking haven't been online for almost two weeks now, so he got legitimite excuse. So, Beirus, wanna wait until he returns, put him on AI and fight against me, or take victory by default?

ATHATH don't have such excuse though. I sent him a PM yesterday few hours after he went offline so I'll wait for now.

In meanwhile, lets talk about betting. Current form employed here is largely risk free and rewards aren't so great unless you already got a good mutation. So I have been playing with an idea of using cash for battle royale type match.
1. Basically anyone posting gets random amount of cash to start with.
2. Cash can be used to buy cards from different categories. Higher category cards have higher probability of being useful/powerful, but also cost more. Same goes for specific type of cards. For example you can buy a Creature-type card for very cheap and what you get can be anything The Metamorphica lists. Or pay more for Mammal-type card, or ludicrously high sums for Fantastic Animal -type card. Of course cheap random Creature card can give out a dragon as well as a tadpole, so there's certain risk/cost ratio to think about.
3. More bet categories. First kill, first death, first blood, winner.

I have to think more categories and how to handle payout ratios properly, but all suggestions and critique is welcome. Suggestions and critique are actually expected, I wouldn't post this otherwise.  :P

Those sound interesting. Only caution I have is in the amount of work added to the GM. Beware overloading a game in things to keep track of.

((I was hoping that he would have done something within 24 hours after you said that, but he hasn't. No offense, but as a GM, I feel you might have more information than he would in the current situation and there may be an unconcious bias to specific choices or paths of action. I'll take the default win, although maybe if I could fight the host guy or whatever to pass the time until the other match is over, that would be fun. Like an exhibition match.))

Beirus vs Spiderking50!

Alright, we do that.

Once again VR machines beep loudly, this time the sound comes from Spiderking's seat. Simulation halts and medics run back to the stage. They study Spiderking's limp body before lifting him onto a stretcher and carrying him away.

"Dear audience! I assure you that your Virtual Reality systems are not capable of causing any brain damage to users! He probably have a some sort medical condition that was triggered with inconvient timing. I hope it is nothing serious, though."

"Since Spiderking is unable to continue, this means Beirus wins this match and only ATHATH got his bet right. We'll notify him as soon as his match ends. As you can see over the screens here, he's a bit busy at the moment. Now, I'm certain this is unsatisfying to you as well, Beirus, so I'll make you a special offer! Would you like to have a exhibition match against me while we wait for your future opponent? No prizes, no penalties, no bets and we end as soon as Ozarck and ATHATH finish their match. What you say?"
