: What did they tell you then? Did they look for you or did you just answer a job offer?

By now Edgar had already caught up to the walking priest.

: "The latter. I was looking for work and they were offering a decent amount of gold for an escort job, "details to follow". Obviously I won't see most of it until we get back alive, but I wasn't really in a position to bargain."

: At least you have a better chance than us at getting paid. We basically got drafted from prison, so I wouldn't be surprised if they decide freedom is enough pay.

: And honestly, I wasn't too excited about robbing up a place anyways.

[Sirus]

Yeah well, that's the price for breaking the law.

: "So why do it? Some crime lord hold your family hostage or something?"

[Solymr]

: People don't need a better reason than being hungry and having no way to earn money.

: As it turns out, not everyone is lucky enough to find honest work by themselves. If I was still alone I would have probably starved or gotten killed because of a job request where the employer "forgets" to tell me something.

[Sirus]

: "From what I've heard, your group's been together for a while. You're saying that in all that time not a single "honest" opportunity has come up?"

[Solymr]

: It's an endless cycle. I join a group of petty criminals because I can't find honest work, and I can't find honest work because I'm with a group of petty criminals.

: I was planning on trying to equip myself and maybe others for proper mercenary work, but thievery does not provide large amounts of money most of the time. It just happened that we got into this mess before I could break that cycle by myself.

: And what about you? How did you find yourself needing this job?

As the group approached the small wooded area Alaria had disappeared to, she emerged, stowing something into her pouch. Looking up at them, she raised an eyebrow.

"Don't tell me. They've already decided to revolt against me."

Kaltsar did not follow those who went after Alaria. "Hmph.  That's probably not going to improve things."

[Sirus]

: "Oh. Well. I lost all my money in a dice game. Damn cheaters. You try feeding a wyvern with happy thoughts and see how well that goes." She was spared further babbling by Alaria's question/statement.

: "I don't believe so ma'am, not yet."

Kaldach's eyebrow twitched when Kaltsar spoke.
: "Probably not. I've stopped trying to keep track of people doing whatever a while ago. Turns out thieves don't like snoops. Go figure."

[GiglameshDespair]

"Eh. C'nt really make t'ings worse."

She poked at one of the corpses with her foot.

"Reck'n 'ny of dese have anyt'ing s'upid I c'n make Taffy wear?"

"True enough. We'll find out what she's up to when we need to find out."

"Shilleka, what compels you to bother Taft at every opportunity?"

Kaldach looked down at one of the bisected mages.
: "Pretty sure those stains can't be washed out."
