"They would never. They are fair men. They may be using you here in a way that you do not like, but there is no chance of them hurting you after you have done your task. The same holds true for your leader. I suspect they will attempt to find you a position in a legitimate business so that you do not go back to your thieving ways, but you will be free. That I can promise."

Kaltsar's expression darkened. "I very much doubt that they'll try to find us any meaningful employment, but that's not my main concern. What proof do you have that they will not do such a thing? Is there precedent at all? I, and many of the others, have been done wrong by nobility in the past."

"Finally heading out, Are We?"

Angus head to Mystical Maggie's Magics picks up a Swarm, and a Vuln. Angus head back to the Inn.

"Hey! Alaria! Aye be hearin' chatter about need of a Merchant?"

Angus dawns a cape and a mustache. Angus start to longingly stroke his newly acquired mustache.

Alaria waved a dismissive hand.

"Nobles are nobles. The council members are wise and respected leaders who rule through fairness. They take care of their people and would never do such a thing. They have rescued people from unjust imprisonment before and would have no reason to kill you after doing this job. The whole point of it is to give you a chance to make up for your errors. It has been done before, just never with something quite this big. But the size matters not. You will have done something for them that they themselves could not have done, and thus you will be rewarded. Perhaps nobles might turn on you, but the rulers of Cleper are not power hungry fools. They do not mind taking help as evidenced by your current state of being alive."

Just then Angus butted in on the private conversation. Giving him a once over, she rolled her eyes.

"I will be the merchant. Unlike most of you, I actually have the accent and behavior to be a merchant. Plus, as a mage, I am more easily able to hide my abilities. You will do just fine as a guard."

Angus slowly sulks in manly tears.

"At least Aye have ye mustache."

Kaltsar sighed. It seemed to him that Alaria was very much starstruck with the council. He didn't share her optimism. "Alright then. I'll take you, and they, at your word. For now."

"So. Why the mountains?"

"Yes, well, as nice as that mustache is, I still believe it best that I be the merchant. As for why the mountains, it was Keyleth's idea. We avoid the checkpoint going in between the two countries that way and hopefully avoid any soldiers who might question what we're doing. Plus it will save us some time. Less time spent going around things."

"I think you've lost me. If we're going through the mountains to avoid guard checkpoints, why bother with the trader charade?"

Alaria shrugged slightly.

"You never know who you might run into. There are still patrols in the mountains, it's just not as stringent as the checkpoint is."

Kaltsar scratched the back of his head. "I dunno, I think I'd expect a trader to be usin' the main roads. But hey, you're in charge of this outfit. Do whatever you think gets us the Fire Emblem."

Taft butted his way in.

"Bullshit it was her, I was the one who suggested heading south and through the mountains."

"Ugh, you're right, she suggested the merchants. I was tired, my memory is a bit fuzzy on the details."

Taft grumbled.

"Never get any credit or respect around here."

"So is everyone ready or what?"

Keyleth nudged the man in armor and indicated Taft.

: "Is he always so...short-tempered?" the wyvern rider whispered.
