"I think that's the only one I grabbed, the rest were missing or... Uh, damaged. Look, we're adults here, we'll just remove the straps and boil the damn thing." Kaltsar grabbed another piece of armor, this time a fauld.

Kaldach, who was sitting in a darker corner of the inn eating a bowl of the stew with two emptied bowls nearby, grumbled at Taft.
: "Not really, short stuff."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"Fine, more for us. Happy now?"

Taft looked over at Kaldach.

"Seriously though. Why do you use a sword that's as likely to kill you as your enemy? And none of this 'hasn't killed me yet' shit. Why take the risk at all?"

Kaldach tried to make an explanation, pausing as he continued to scarf through the stew bowl in his hands.
: "Simple. _*rlf* It kills other people faster. _*nrarf* Come combat, I need to kill people- _*slurp* -before they kill me." Kaldach set the bowl down, empty, with an audible clack, "Fighters like me don't really need a better reason. Maybe you haven't been in enough scraps."

"Yeah, I avoid them. I happen to like living and being in a fight means being caught, which is bad for business and possibly my health. Anyway, your life I guess, but if I get killed because you wanna use dangerous equipment I'll haunt you until you die."

Keyleth returned from her bath, having scrubbed off the dirt and dried blood that had accumulated during the battle and was back in full armor. She grabbed a bowl of stew and sought out Alaria.

: "My risk, not yours. 'less you piss me off for some reason. That case I'll just find a way to cut ghosts in half too."
Kaldach stood with a bowl in hand and made his way over to the inn counter, helped himself to another filling, and sat back down.
: "Hell's an 'informant' like you doing with thieves anyway? Figure they'd be more the solo type."

"Eh, it's a place to sleep, with people you can usually trust to watch your back. And if the guards bust down the door, more people for them to chase means better odds on not getting caught. That's why I've been in the game 15 years and only been caught once."

The mercenary takes a long draft of the still piping-hot stew before setting it down.
: "...Ah." He wipes his mouth on a small piece of cloth, and after making sure Alaria was out of earshot, continued, "So, 'informant', yeah? Any chance you know much about what Tairani's nobles and their associates have been up to lately? Y'know, aside from the Cleper crones."

"Not much of interest to you, I would assume, unless you want to know who is sleeping with who, or which one of them hides their cash in hollow books. Some people pay good money for the former, at least."

[CrimsonEon]

: "...Great." Kaldach mumbled bitterly before grabbing a fork and starting to eat rapidly again.
: "Well- _*growf* -don't bother digging much, then. _*narf* Stuff's going on, and this Fire Emblem business is just padding- _*nomf* -as far as I'm concerned."

Taft finished his bowl and got another.

"Got something personal against our lords and ladies there? I mean I could give a rat's ass what they do beyond how I can make money off it, but you sound like a man with a grudge."

The mercenary paused his mad devouring spree to shoot a glare at Taft.
: "...Against one family. And a whole lot of other people, but the rest aren't worth the dirt off my boots. Just scum to clean up while I'm doing my business."
He quickly resumed his starved wolf impression.
