Taft caught it fairly adroitly considering his wounds and downed it at a gulp.

"Well, that's better at least, so thanks. Also you're Ria. Alaria is too fancy for my blood."

: "Elf, Human, Dwarf. All of them bleed pretty much the same. Don't much care what they were born as, just so long as they don't get in my way." He shrugged, "Kaldach. Mercenary. Don't mix it up for Thief, Bandit or whatever, and we'll be fine."

[Sirus]

But weren't you captured as a th...you know what, never mind.

: "Keyleth. Guess I'm a mercenary as well. This is Arrna." She patted the wyvern's neck affectionately.

[Swordstar]

Alaria grimaced slightly but took a second and let out a long breath as if she was trying to relax.

"Ria is fine, I suppose. The inn is just up ahead. We'll be staying there, assuming they have enough room to fit us all. Feel free to order food and such for yourself."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"Right. So why did they pick you, anyway? From the sound of things, seems like you consider it being punished."

[Swordstar]

"It's not that... It's just..."

She sighed and ran a hand through her hair, pushing it back slightly.

"This was supposed to be my first big job. I've been training for years now to become a trusted mage, to be allowed out into the world to hunt for artifacts and the like. This was supposed to be a relatively straightforward job. If it was just me, they could have warped me right to the gates, I would have gone in and found out about the Emblem and then returned it or myself to the Council and proceeded from there. But then out of nowhere, a week or so ago, Simon comes to me and tells me that plans have changed. That instead I'm going to be sent with a group. A group of thieves and mercenaries. As if I couldn't do this on my own. It seemed so strange to me. That he would all of a sudden trust outsiders to do the job. That... that he wouldn't trust me. And so I got angry. At him, at you, at the whole situation. Looking back at it now though, at these bandits... Perhaps there was a reason."

[CrimsonEon]

Kaldach craned his neck to look at the wyvern's head.
: "Right, Keyleth n' Arrna it is then. Don't know why you decided to take this job, but keep this in mind; it's a job to both of us. I've got your back if you've got mine."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"I guess they just wanted a bunch of warm bodies to be your punching bags if things got real."

Taft sighed. That figured.

"I'm going to laugh in their stupid old faces when we all make it back alive, and then I'm out."

He turned his attention back to Alaria.

"I'm an information broker myself. There's good money in it."

That was the fancy term for a person who eavesdropped, broke in and took maps and documents, and otherwise stole and sold secrets big and small.

[Sirus]

: "...Sure. Sounds fair." After a sudden dive, the trio arrived at the village outskirts and Keyleth dismounted before helping the merc down. She waved Alaria over and gestured towards the bleeding man.

[Haspen]

Korhal slowly heals everyone, starting with Kaldach and finishing with Alaria.

"It is entirely possible that is what's going on. It doesn't change that I felt like they don't trust me. And information... Interesting. I suspect you could be of some use during this trip then."

Just then Keyleth gestured to her. Digging into her satchel, she produced another one of the small bottles of medicine, which she tossed over to the wyvern rider.

"That should heal him just fine."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"Yeah, 99% of the time I don't even get caught. Then this had to ruin my perfect record. I'm still pretty bitter about that."

"But yeah, you know. Information. Find where people keep their valuables, secret ways into vaults, what routes merchants or soldiers are going to take, that sort of thing."

The fact that Alaria might not have appreciated that sort of thing didn't cross his mind at all.

Keyleth fumbled with the bottle, before passing it on to Kaldach. She was no nurse; he could take care of himself.

Kaldach seemed to chuckle at Taft's declaration of being an 'information broker' as he caught the medicine and drank. Between it and Korhal's healing, his wounds sealed in seconds.

Taft gave Kaldach a raised eyebrow, as if daring the larger devil-man to make something of it.
