Here is a character sheet I made for a character. Cavalier, heavily armored, optimized for mounted combat. Bad rolls on HP sadly ( what is the average on a d10 by the way? 5 or 6? I assumed 5)
I have a couple of questions and problems however. First,  I can't quite find a banner item for the use of my ability (besides ultra expensive woundrous items). can I just assume it is, I don't know, painted/attached on my armor and call it a day?or a banner held by a small pole on my mount.
Second: I wanted to take ouflank instead of precise  strike for my tactician feat.But I get the feat early and can only take outflank at 4th level. Is it fair to assume I left the feat slot empty until 4th level, or should I stick with precise strike?
Also: I generated the character using PCgen. When generating the horse, it told me to pick 'companion level increase choice' which allowed me to take +2 DEx and CON but I have no idea of what that is, and I haven't found information on the online pathfinder srd. ny idea? should I just scrap that?
Fourth: Anything I missed/messed up?
Later I'll try to get a better sheet (mythweaver maybe?) and a backstory.

1) The Average on a d10 is 5.5... So 10 + 5.5 + 5.5 + 5.5 +5.5 + 10 (for con) = 42... Ohh and +5 for favored class bonus... so 47

2) The rules actually aren't clear on this. There is nothing stopping you from actually doing this or retraining at a later time (other then expense)

3) I found it!

"Instead of taking the listed benefit at 4th or 7th level, you can instead choose to increase the companion's Dexterity and Constitution by 2."

4) So far the only thing I got is: The horses Hit Dice is 37 not 44 (He just gets average dice, and doesn't get the benefit from maximized first level dice)... ignoring that you need to remake the horse... slightly (You added an extra +2 to the horses dex)

Also why your Lance is only a +7 is beyond me.

I am rolling a cavalier, order of the sword. Neonivek, feel free to veto this if you think there isn't going to be much if any chance of mounted combat. My second choice would be either a necromancer ( was thinking sorcerer with only necromancy school spells, but maybe stewards only like divine necromancy?) or a druid.

There isn't much I can actually do to outright prevent you from using a horse or charging. A Pit trap maybe, a small crawl space, maybe shrinking the horse.

There are bigger issues with the Cavalier

Namely... the 39 damage average on any charge.

Meaning in order to keep the game a challenge I'd have to... Pull out all the stops and actually treat you like a threat. Since you are far and above more dangerous then the rest of the party combined.

Yeah I forgot to add power attack.

Now he can use the lance two handed... so... I'll also eliminate precise strike (which I wouldn't think is multiplied anyhow)

54 damage average

Sorry still made a mistake... 60 damage average... 69 on a precise strike.

On a +14 or a +18 with Outflank

I am not sure if I want this Cavalier in the game. If only because it would transform the game into a really bad game of horse tag.

But I have a feeling the players want the insane high damage Horse person xD

Ah, thanks for the reply neonivek.

1) actually, I rolled an 8 for the last level, but on the other hand I put 4 of my favored class bonuses on improving my banner ability ( extra +1)

2)well, rules don't forbid it. More specifically hwever I wanted to know if you, as GM, would be ok with it.

3)Thanks! it was driving me mad. My horse is much strong now. fear his bite, enemies!

4)I'll take a look at the horse again. there is something screwy going on with stats ( I added the bonus to dex rather than Str, so dex is fine.. except an extra pint from somewhere? and I am not sure where all strength bonus comes from. I think there is an extra +1 on dex and an extra +1 on STR.)

5) well spotted on the lance. that is not the normal attack. It should be +11. I'll update.

as far as me being a threat... take that, people thinking martial classes are useless!
As for making me less deadly, buildings with hallways will go a long way negating ride-by attack, meaning I can only charge once. Assuming the building is big enough to ride inside which is in no way a given.

But if you think it is a balance problem I can switch in the interest of a good game.

Edit: That is fair. Spirited charge is a very powerful feat and removing that will bring me back to a more reasonable power level.
edit 2: in fact, that feat is the best part of the cavalier's 20th level ability.
edit 3: silly me, the extra STR/DEX is simply from being a companion.
edit 4: well, I guess I could keep the feat and swap the lance with something else... but honestly the broken part isn't the lance, and charging with a lance has a certain charm that a spear or sword charge lacks.
edit 5: or did you mean I must drop both? I will do it, but lance  on its own isn't that bad, except on a critical. but it doesn't have much threat range.

As for charge here is kind of the thing. I'd have to kind of REALLY gun for you. Like enemies using the Brace feature, attacks on your horse, pit traps, snares, mind control. I'd have to design rooms entirely around making that horse as useless as possible at all times to stop you from instantly killing encounters (you can actually kill every CR 5 monster)

I am all for trying a session to see if it can be done while keeping the game fun. I am up for the challenge.

But it all depends what you think is fun.

Well, a practice session could help deciding if the character is viable.

The brace feature is honestly something that should see more use. Breaking charges is a good part of the utility of spears.
as far as designing rooms goes... "the ceiling is too low to ride inside" should work well without contrived design ( unless you need big rooms, I have no idea of the planned locations). Honestly, when designing the character I already had in mind that I would end up spending a lot of time not riding.

sure... although I haven't yet made all the changes to the horse and character HP, but they are fairly minor.
