Alright, the server is in the works. Just need to clean-up .ini file when I make it home, and we should be up and running later today.
Based on what I've read here, a reasonable compromise of what we want could be...
- Double length days, normal length nights
- Map self-position revealed
- x2 Taming speed
- x2-3 Resource gathering
- Medium-high difficulty
Does this sound good to you?If so, would anyone like to suggest certain server rules? For instance, "Don't build in caves," "no offline raiding," etc. These would be the law of the land, and players who deliberately breach them would be banned. Or, perhaps you'd prefer no rules at all..?
Also, I have a little proposition. In addition to whatever is agreed upon for the above, would be willing to raise experience gain to something ludicrous like x5, if folks were willing to make this hardcore server. I personally can't stand softcore, as the lack of substantial risk on well-populated/targetted servers allows those who have established themselves and those who are just out to grief to do whatever they please with only trivial risk and recovery time. Nothing says "Stop screwing with me" quite like a shot to the head of that level 70 who spent two weeks getting where he is while he's mining. What's more, this usually creates interest in trading, whether because you want to stockpile extra tools and supplies in case the worst comes to pass, or because you'd rather not risk your life to do what you can pay someone else to do for you.
Again, this is just a proposal. Unless I see substantial interest on this thread, we'll just roll with softcore.
When the server goes up, I would be interested in establishing a classic Bay12 settlement like in the good old days Bottlenecked. When I'm not gathering like a fiend or building bridges and rest camps in scenic locales, I tend to fit the ranger role- hunting, scouting, taming, and taking lots of utility and aesthetic engrams (flares, traps goddamned real roofs), rather than armor and tools.
