Ironically, the dinosaurs themselves are the main consumers of the narcotics.

It always hits the poorest communities the hardest.
The unemployment rate in dinosaur communities is almost 70%.

Hey, speaking of large enough groups, the Bay 12 Teamspeak is running a camp on one of the official servers. There's about half a dozen of us, but we can use every hand we can get.

I caved in and just bought the game. Which official server?

Animals roam, and spawn in on you occasionally.

AFKing is very dangerous lol. I lost all my gear while changing my son's diaper yesterday - raptor ate me in the river.

Thankfully my stuff wasn't hard to replace. My pike now would be though since our metal supply isn't flowing yet.

I saw a lvl 30 dilo chase a parasaur into camp last night and eat you guys on the bed before I got there to help. Sometimes animals use YOU to get away lol.

Are walls a thing? They were certainly in the trailer.

They sure are. Also, it seems that if you clear-cut around your camp, dinos wont spawn in non-foliated areas.

Walls are a thing, but they require a few levels and a decent amount of resources to make.

As you get up in tech level, they start taking a lot of resources to make.

Still, there's almost no reason to not at least have a thatch hut to sleep in before you log off for the night.

Its very true. Thatch huts are easy for one person. However, houses and bases built out of wood require enough resources that we needed multiple people to build a large safe area.

I can't emphasize enough how nice it is to have a clear-cut area around your living space. It's always great to have a dino-free zone.

I keep hearing about how unoptimized and terribly this runs-any report on that?

I get around 20 fps with all of the settings down at 1366x768 (I was able to turn textures to high with no loss in framerate). I have an aging gaming laptop with a low-clock i7 processor and a 660m video card. I've heard that even people with brand new GTX 980s struggle to get more than 40 fps with the settings down at 1080p.

It is bad. I don't have the specs in front of me but my system can't handle it even though it can handle most other things. If you have ever said "my system is starting to show its age" you may want to hold off on ark for now.

I am in the uncomfortable position that I bought the game and want to play it so bad that I am looking at buying a while new system.

I can run it on high settings, and while it is choppy I only get serious slideshow when looking at a high-cost effect like fire or waves.  That said it really does not run well, which is unfortunate as the game is a blast to play.

You're going to get 20 fps no matter what. However, last week I got around 10. Optimizations are obviously happening.

Keep in mind that this is in alpha. I'm personally really happy with this situation, because it means that its unlikely there will be gameplay cut at the expense of eye candy. If they don't add a single bit of content to the game from now until release, I'd be happy with nothing but optimizations. It was still worth my cash for the entertainment I'm getting.

On that note, they just added a new dino to the game, so new contact is in fact being added at the same time.

I think they added two dinos in the last 12 days or so. I also have to agree that the game is a blast and does not feel lacking in content.

Buy I think people here are down laying the optimization issues. It isn't just a matter of 20 fps. The game takes somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 minutes to even load up. The fact is that it is simply frustrating to play right now and it is even more frustrating because you really want to play it!
