Yes, mages should be able to spend 2 mana to increase their spell's Zap roll by 1.
Yes, mages should be able to spend 3 mana to increase their spell's Zap roll by 1.
Yes, mages should be able to spend 3 mana to increase their spell's Zap roll by 1, but doing this provokes a Luck roll: on a roll of 2 or less, the spell loses one Awk.
No, this is a very bad idea.
No, this is a somewhat bad idea, I have my own ideas. (Post in thread).

Turn Five: The Melee

INIT:
Ejiro(10-10=0)
Conein(54+10=64)

Conein Will(5) Conein winces at the pain in his lung, but ignores it. He then proceeds to attempt to bash in Ejiro's skull. (2vs.1-1=0) (5-1=4vs.4+2=6) Conein taps Ejiro's forehead. Something's wrong here. Conein takes the opportunity of confusion in Ejiro's eyes to grab another bottle. (6) It's full. Nearly overflowing, in fact. In fact, it's vodka. (Vodka bottle, counts as two drinks. May cause headaches.) Conein chugs half the vodka to restore his mana. Will(6) Oh yeah, that's the stuff!

Ejiro chugs his own bottle. Then uses it to pound in the arrow further in. (4vs. 5+1-1=5) Ejiro Luck(6) There's the other lung! (6-1=5vs.6-2=4) Bruise ho. (Bruised left lung area.)

Random Event(1) It truly is a Disaster. As it seems, blue bolts of lightning are springing up from underground. (Players get randomly attacked by blue lightning bolts next turn.)

Shove him down, arrow downwards so as to maximize damage from both lightning and further puncturing. Cast my spell.

Turn Nineteen: The End of the End

INIT:
Avery(11+10=21)
Person(33+10=43)
Weremouse(40)

Person brandishes his sword, then- waits for Avery to deal with his natural status effects. On Fire! Tougha(4-4(gut)=0) Avery's gut cooks. It smells repulsive. Will(3) (you now need a 6 for Will to act. The odds are against you.)

Person smiles, then charges, lazily, but sure of himself. (2vs.5+1-3=3) Avery leans, as if to collapse, and somehow this causes Person to barely miss.

The Weremouse climbs over the rubble(Luck: 6), lasting surprisingly long as a weremouse before not transforming back, and then taking a swipe at Person. (6vs.6+1=7) Person grabs the Weremouse's hand with his free hand and then kicks the Weremouse in the ankle. (6-1=5vs.1) The Weremouse is down. (Lying prone(-2 to dodge), broken ankle). Person feels as if someone empowered him for dramatic effect. (no, I didn't fake rolls, but I didn't give Person a Luck roll for counterattack, instead just giving him a 5. It seemed best, I can undo it if you want.)

Avery Will(2)... Avery collapses from the pain, just too much. He slips into unconsciousness for the last time...

Avery is dead!

Random Event(5)

The dwarf miner has the odd experience of seeing Person just vanish into thin air.

Person is victorious!

((I'd like Person and Beirus to note that they both have rewards to claim for their first victory.))

((It hast been done!))

Turn Six: Turn Length Variations Intensify(Conein gets hurt more, Ejiro tanks it like a boss).

INIT:
Ejiro(54-10=44)
Conein(37+10=47)

Guess who goes first! Conein! Will(1) Then the pain kicks in and lets Ejiro go first.
(Will is useless, except when it's not.)

Ejiro charges Conein. (1vs.4+1-1=4) Toro, Ejiro! Conein has tripped Ejiro, letting him fall to the ground. Ejiro grumbles, and unleashes his magics.
Zap(1+6=7)
Awk(5-1=4)
((You're just like Oric at this point.))
Ejiro Luck(1)

A sphere of light appears. Then it expands. Burning everything. Dodge.
(2-1(point blank)=1)
(4+1-1=4)

Conein rolls out of the way, wincing with the pain from the arrow embedded in his chest. Luck(1) Agh, he's wrenching it in! (Right Lung deeply pierced, -1 to physical exertion, roll will to avoid additional penalties.)
(7vs.4+2=6) Ejiro's normal hardcoreness kicks in. He only gets his robes scorched and some burns. (Light burns, mundane.)

The blue bolts of lightning springing up from underground are another issue. But first, Conein has an arrow to fire.
Zap(3+2=5)
Awk(4+1=5)
An accurate arrow appears, arriving through the aether.
(3+1=4vs.4-1=3) (5vs.3+2=5) The arrow lodges in Ejiro's robes, then shatters.

Conein decides enough is enough and promptly casts a magic shield.
Zap(6+2-1=7)
Awk(4+1-1=4)
Though not as well made as he would have liked, this shield was plenty potent. (Potent magic shield, +2 to damage resistance, next two turns.)

Then zap.
Ejiro Luck(6) The flash of lightning temporarily blinds Ejiro, but whatever happened to him... it's... Crit Luck(2)... nothing. He's completely unaffected.
Conein Luck(2) Conein is a different story, as the lightning blasted him. (4+1=5vs.6-2(chest)=4 or 6) Conein's chest wounds were aggravated slightly, but nothing else happens.

Random Event(2). You know the deal.

Ah, I'll take a point to stronga then, to make my sword actually worth using. I've only for one drunkness at the moment anyway.

I don't even think i could possibly win right now. RNGesus, screw you.

REMOVE MY GODDAMN ARROW WHICH DISAPPEARED WHEN IT HITS ROBES BUT NOT WHEN SOMEONE GRABS IT AND STAB EJIRO WITH IT

Also, i just noticed a thing. My magic arrow is goddamn useless. Not only i need to get past four rolls to do something, which keep going badly, but if i use a melee attack i'd just have to get past 2 rolls.

If the arrow is in his chest, smash it further in.
Else, break the bottle and shank him with it.

Then my spell.

"Let's have another matchup."

(3, Harvey) (2, Mizlan)

"Let's have a magma-hot welcome for Harvey Parker and Mizlan the Fanatic!"

(1) "Another dwarf fortress? Do we want staleness? No, this must be better than a dwarf fortress. Better than the norm... no... today you fight in a special arena custom-built by the good dwarves of Seerwheels!"

This is probably relevant.

P=pit
M=magma
H=Harvey

((My basic parameters for spell cost are as follows: One mana cost per word, then add mana cost for words that amplify power, or do something that is incredibly powerful by nature. Also words that work as, effectively, extra luck or Awkwardness may receive extra mana cost(for instance, Loyal). Game changing spells are going to be expensive by nature.))
