Yes, mages should be able to spend 2 mana to increase their spell's Zap roll by 1.
Yes, mages should be able to spend 3 mana to increase their spell's Zap roll by 1.
Yes, mages should be able to spend 3 mana to increase their spell's Zap roll by 1, but doing this provokes a Luck roll: on a roll of 2 or less, the spell loses one Awk.
No, this is a very bad idea.
No, this is a somewhat bad idea, I have my own ideas. (Post in thread).

Turn Four: Mug Combat

INIT
Avery(5+1=6)
Person(1+1=2)

Avery throws his mug at Person's face! (5vs.1+1=2) (3-1=2vs.3) The mug bounces off Person's chest. Then comes Nuclear Rainboom.

Zap(4+1=5)
Awk(4+2=6)
Will(4) Avery almost causes bad things to happen, but a particularly large headache cuts him off.

Person chugs down his purple dusted mug. (no luck roll) (tougha: 2, will: 6) Aggh... bad effects, bad effects, clear mind... (luck: 3)

Person slumps to the floor with an instant brain hangover. agh. (since high will, simply -2 to init next turn.) Throw interrupted.

Random Event(1)... um...  the door falls down. You notice a dwarf in the doorway. His eyes glow red. For the obvious reason that he's berserk.

Spoiler: Avery (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Person (click to show/hide)

Attempt to throw a cup of ale at the dwarf to calm it. If this doesn't work then nuclear rainboom.

((Would it be possible to run multiple matches at once? Assuming each match takes a week and a half, it will be two months before the last two people get a chance to go.))

((Multiple matches at once? Maybe, but I have limits. Two-Three matches at once would be the absolute most. One match at once is the easiest for me.))

Use an energy blade to defend myself. If the dwarf is not aggressive towards me specifically, attack Avery with it instead.

((Nobody expects you to run 6 matches at the same time. I have the feeling that two matches would be ideal. 4 people get to play at once, most likeley without update speed being brought to a crawl and/or an enormous GM workload. That should serve to speed the "waitlist" along and bring the player limit closer to that of a traditional RTD, hopefully without any major drawbacks.))

((Besides, these things move fast.))

Turn Five: Arcane Sucesses

INIT
Avery(1+1=2)
Person(6+1-2=5)
Dwarf(1-1(raagh)=0)

Person snaps his fingers, projecting energy into the shape of a blade.
Zap(3+2=5)
Awk(6-1=5)

Perfection. Balance. Such is Person's blade. (luck: 4) Sunlight and heat bend and twist into a finely balanced(and solid) shortsword.

((2 matches might be manageable. Okay.)) Person takes a combat stance.

Avery grabs an ale mug and tosses it at the door. (1) The dwarf now wants Avery dead. And so does Person.

Person cleaves at Avery and the dwarf unleashes a roundhouse kick!

(even: dwarf)
The dwarf strikes first! (3vs.4+1=5) A miss. (Avery off balance, -1 to dodge)
Person moves in! (1vs.6-1+1=6) (special bonus for Avery: 1) Avery dodges really well, but falls and sprains his ankle.

Avery begins arcane gestures.
Zap(4+1=5)
Awk(4+2=6)
(1) A sphere of arcane energy floats into the air. Then explodes.
Avery Luck(6) None of the radioactive droplets get anywhere near Avery.
Person Luck(5) Person knocks the occasional droplet out of the air. No, no death for him.
Dwarf Luck(1) There is a spasm in the dwarf's flesh. (4) Then he's retching, spasming, and in general disabled. (next 3 turns)

Random Event(4) nope.

"Now let's meet our second pair of contestants!"

(10(Azer)), (9(Drake)).

"Azer and Drake! You know what to do."

(1) Floating black disk.

Two mages walk into existence on a floating black disk. Ahem.

Avery, uses the table to get up and begins frantically searching for weapons. After this he will search for a sealed bottle of alcohol and if finds none he will reluctantly grab another mug and gulp it down. Then cast throw orb of random effect at person. ((this better?))

Bat the orbs away from me with the sword, back towards Avery if possible. If I get a chance to attack, go for a stab to the body.

((Yes, thank you.))

Turn Six: Awkward Moments

INIT
Avery(1+1=2)
Person(1+1=2)
Dwarf(nope)
TIE_BREAKER_INIT
Avery(5+1=6)
Person(2+1=3)

Avery pulls himself to his feet and begins searching for weapons. Luck(5) There is a rather shiny steel warhammer mounted on the wall. Right behind him. It is acquired. Luck(1) There is a sealed bottle of dwarven sunshine right next to Person's foot. He promptly acquires it.
Gulp, gulp. (tougha: 1, will: 5) Avery's body spasms but his mind remains clear as the mana washes through him. (-3 to dodge for this turn)

Person notices the lack of any more spheres raining down upon him. His blade dances, revealing pain in store for Avery.

(1vs. 3+1-3=1) (2-1=1vs. 1) (any result: no) Incredible ineptness results in no result, other than Person getting right up in Avery's face. The mages are standing next to each other at the moment.

Random Event(4) Nothing.

Spoiler: Avery (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Person (click to show/hide)
Anything else of importance: the mages are standing next to each other. Very close.
