Yes, mages should be able to spend 2 mana to increase their spell's Zap roll by 1.
Yes, mages should be able to spend 3 mana to increase their spell's Zap roll by 1.
Yes, mages should be able to spend 3 mana to increase their spell's Zap roll by 1, but doing this provokes a Luck roll: on a roll of 2 or less, the spell loses one Awk.
No, this is a very bad idea.
No, this is a somewhat bad idea, I have my own ideas. (Post in thread).

((Sorry for the delay.))

Mizlan: Go fetch the golem's head, putting the axe down if you are short on free hands. Give it back to the golem, and maybe grab a booze bottle in transit. Should I finally get my hands on some safe alcohol, drink 2 mana's worth, then summon a new minion.

Golem: Wait until Mizlan gives the head back, then put your axe down and start throwing pointy adamantine things at Harvey. Do not even consider letting your head leave your hand.

Yeti: I assume "frost breath" actually does something? If so, use it on Harvey, preferably in such a way as to freeze him to the spikes or the bottom of the pit. If for whatever reason that doesn't work out, use your free hand to put the weapons on the floor to good use. (Namely, being thrown at Harvey. Try to get a head shot in a some point, because there's nothing for stopping a mage like a good headache.)

((I would begin the duel between Mage and Edwin, but NAV seems to be waylaid or something...))

Turn Seven: Mizlan and the Legion of Doom(and a newly minted mutant)

Harvey(49+10=59)
Mizlan and the Legion of Doom(10)

Harvey Will(4) Harvey pulls himself out of the stunning, but gets a headache for his troubles(-1 to Awk, this turn). Harvey blasts the spikes with his own brand of magic.
Zap(4)
Great, Random.org fizzled on me. Thankfully I have my backup: Dice.
Awk(3+3-1=5)
The spikes around harvey remove themselves from his proximity(in effect, flying about randomly away from him.)

Mizlan commands his Legion of Doom! Golem Luck(6) One of the things effected by Harvey's spell was the golem head that fell down into the pit. It promptly bounces out of it and flies, somehow, right back to the golem's hand. Mizlan shrugs, grabbing an alcohol bottle(3) that has mostly leaked. It still contains 2 mana's worth, however. Mizlan drinks, then invokes another summoning.

Zap(5)
Awk(1+2=3)
Luck(4)
Mizlan's not sure what he summoned. It looks like a cloud of unbound darkness twisted into corporal form and forced by hand and tooth to serve him against its will, but that couldn't be right... and on top of that it seems to be adversely effecting his sanity. Mizlan Will(1+1=2) The sight of the Unbound is enough to cause Mizlan to faint. At least it's a good minion.

Mizlan Luck(3) Thankfully Mizlan remembered to order his Yeti ahead of time. The Yeti walks over to the edge of the pit, then breathes really deeply.

Yeti Zap(6) A wave of frosty air erupts from the Yeti's mouth, cascading towards Harvey.
(1+1(large volume)=2vs.3+1-1=3) Harvey manages to get out of the way, unfortunately it seems the frost has rendered getting out of the pit a laughable tactic. (Pit walls now very slippery).

Call for help.
"What? You think I'm just going to get you out of there? Your benefactor might help you, but I'm not doing a thing-this is hilarious!"

Something Luck(3) "You got yourself into this mess, you can get out of it. But I'll give you a... no, a hand isn't the right word. Claws, climbing claws." Harvey notices that his fingernails are shifting, elongating into a set of claws that look specialized for climbing. (Climbing claws, cutting melee attack, +2 to climb rolls.) (for reference the ice is a -3 to climb.)

Try to climb up, anyway. If I have successfully beaten the formidable ice wall, dodge anything that comes after me and focus on consuming any and all alcohol.

Mizlan: Get up, get some more booze. Don't look at the Unbound Darkness for any reason. If the end result of this search won't cause any health problems, drink enough to restore four more mana.

Golem: Should Harvey get out of the pit, knock him back into it with the axe. Bonus points if you cut off his hands before he can actually pull himself to safety. Should his attempt at climbing fail miserably, just put the axe down and send some nice, heavy adamantine in his general direction. If it wasn't clear, don't play dodgeball with your head under any circumstances, and take care not to look at the unbound darkness, although I assume golems don't have much need of intelligence or sanity in the first place.

Yeti: If possible, launch some frost breath at Harvey as he attempts to climb. Should he make it to the top for any reason, work with the golem to corner him and knock him back down. If the climb doesn't work out, check to see if the spear you threw at Harvey is still lying around. If it is, go and pick it up. If not, just use the free hand to throw weapons. Don't look at the Unbound Darkness.

Unbound Darkness: Go hide somewhere where nobody (except Harvey) will accidentally look at you, and start draining Harvey's life. If possible, make this hiding location a place where Harvey is forced to look at you, but the legion of doom is safe.

Turn One: Not Of Importance

INIT:
Mage(55)
Edwin(51-10=41)

Mage invokes a cancelation spell against Edwin!

Zap(3+1=4)
Awk(3+2=5)

A tongue of magic of sorts blasts forth from Mage's hand and(it's not a spell disruptor, it's a spell canceler) drains the power from Edwin's spell. (-2 to Zap for your spell)

Mage promptly charges Edwin in an attempt to bring the pain. (4 vs. 2-1=1) Impact! (2vs.6+2=8) Edwin didn't even notice the impact, however.

Edwin grumbles something about weak oldlings and invokes his own brand of magic.

Zap(4-2=2)
Awk(2+5=7)

Edwin knows exactly what he wants to be. Exactly. He sees it in his mind! He's visualized it! He just hasn't worked up the power! Luck(2) Before Edwin realizes that image might have been helpful for his spell casting later, he chucked it away.

Random Event(1) Something bursts out of the ground between the warring mages! It's a man-eating plant that's taller than both of them! It's a Cowplant!

Spoiler: Mage (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Edwin (click to show/hide)

Wrestle Edwin, try to feed him to the plant! Cast beard flail and use it to aid myself in the wrestling.

((Page 13.))
But how long is his beard?

Turn Eight: Given a Hand

INIT:
Harvey(31+10=41)
Mizlan and the Legion of Doom(19)

Harvey rubs his hands together, then gets started climbing. (2+2-3=1) He gets a grip, then falls right back down.

Meanwhile, Mizlan is commanding his Legion of Doom against Harvey. (2+1=3) He staggers to his feet, unfortunately losing his focus(1/2 chance to fail an order, this turn) (golem: fail) (yeti: fail) (unbound darkness: fail?) (... I rolled d2 3 times and got 1 3 times. Bad luck.)

Well, at least they're not looking at the Unbound Darkness.

Something Luck(6) "Wait, so you don't have years of climbing experience? Who doesn't have years of climbing experience? Okay, up you go." Harvey feels a hand grip his back, then throws him out of the pit. (Tougha: 5-1-1=3) Crunch. Harvey Luck(2) the pain! The pain! (lying prone, -2 to dodge, pained, -1 to will next turn)

Random Event(3)

Spoiler: Harvey (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Mizlan (click to show/hide)

Mizlan's Legion of Doom eye Harvey. Here comes the pain.

((I'm going to be traveling for the next two weeks. Internet exists, but it will be spotty, so I might be late in submitting actions.))

Mizlan: Find booze. If it looks safe, drink four mana's worth. Don't look at the resident eldritch abomination.

Golem: Pin Harvey to the ground. If that doesn't work out, and he manages to get up, stay between him and the booze, and try to keep him occupied so the Yeti can sneak up on him. Needless to say, don't throw your head around, and don't look at the unbound darkness.

Yeti: If the golem succeeds in pinning Harvey down, or he can't get up for some other reason, decapitate him with your axe. If he manages to get up, sneak up on him and axe his legs. Don't look at the unbound darkness.

Unbound Darkness: Go somewhere where nobody, barring Harvey, will look at you, and start draining Harvey's life.
