Yes, mages should be able to spend 2 mana to increase their spell's Zap roll by 1.
Yes, mages should be able to spend 3 mana to increase their spell's Zap roll by 1.
Yes, mages should be able to spend 3 mana to increase their spell's Zap roll by 1, but doing this provokes a Luck roll: on a roll of 2 or less, the spell loses one Awk.
No, this is a very bad idea.
No, this is a somewhat bad idea, I have my own ideas. (Post in thread).

Disarm him. Literally. Cast the healing aura.

Turn Seven: How goes it with you?

INIT
Avery(3+1=4)
Person(4+1=5)

Person uses his closeness to his advantage, sending in a sword swing at Avery's arm.
(4+1(closeness)=5vs.5-1(closeness)+1=5) (hit: yes) Person barely hits, but still succeeds- barely(-1 to damage)
(1-1-1=-1vs.2) Nevermind.

Zap(2+2=4)
Awk(6)
It goes down rather well, less powerful but well made. (healing of wounds by a small degree, automatically, next two turns.)

Avery then backflips, launching a Gatling Fireball Missle in mid-air.

Zap(5+2=7)
Awk(1+1=2)

A twisting burst of fireballs erupts from Avery's hands- at everybody.
Avery(4+1-2(very close(it came out of his hands, ya know?))=3)
Person(5+1=6)
Dwarf(1-3(unconscious)=-2)

Avery gets a few more scorches on his robe. Person(luck: 1) deflects a fireball past his eyebrows, getting them burnt off.
The dwarf is on fire. The dwarf is dead. (loot: 5) A sealed flask of dwarven ale falls out of his clothing! (normal alcohol, not poisoned. Not next to the mages)

Random Event(1) The dwarf spasms, shifting... into... a weremouse! Er...
Welp(5) welp welp welp welp welp.

Spoiler: Avery (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Person (click to show/hide)

Run to the dwarf, when I get there grab the bottle and drink it, then duck and immediately cast nuclear rainboom. Man I hope this doesn't inflict an attack of opportunity from the weremouse. Also if I were to hug Person would I steal his heals?

Steal enemy mana on Avery. Avoid the weremouse.

(That's a really good point that I never considered. Its probably possible, but the aura is covering my whole body for only minor healing at the moment, so it probably wouldn't heal you much. The stronger heal I used earlier would probably effect you more. If this turns into grappling/wrestling it might help. I wouldn't recommend hugging a guy with a sword though, personally.)

Ah damn, had lost sight of this for a few days.

Toss pyro globe at Drake.

Turn One(Person vs. Avery comes later): A dragon of the green kind

INIT:
Azer(1+2=3)
Drake(2+2=4)

Drake immediately goes all out with his special spell! Seriously, so snakeish!

Zap(6+2=8)
Awk(5+2=7)
Luck(4)

Drake immediately spirals, flesh churning, until a cloud of smoke blasts out of him, clearing to reveal an apex predator, the green dragon, specializing in brute strength and acid breath. It's rather large too. (+4 Stronga, +2 Tougha, -3 Quicka, special ability: acid breath, two turns.)

Acid is fired. (3vs.2+2=4) A glob of acid flies over Azer's head. A hair sizzles. He is not amused.

Azer counters with a fiery globe.

Zap(3+2=5)
Awk(3+1=4)

A moderately sized globe of fire is created, and thrown. (1vs.3-1=2) How anybody could miss a creature like that is a mystery.

Random Event(3) What do you know about 3's?

Spoiler: Azer (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Drake (click to show/hide)

Cover everything in my acid breath that I can. Namely, the region all around Azer.

((Also, where'd I get the -1 to dodge? Is it due to size?))

((correct.))

Turn Eight: I'm not sure about the correctness of these rolls, but it seems fine.

INIT:
Avery(2+1=3)
Person(2+1=3)
NOPE.TIEBREAKER:
Avery(1+1=2)
Person(1+1=2)
GMRAGE++:TIEBREAKER2:
Avery(3+1=4)
Person(2+1=3)
Weremouse(1)

Avery fizzles to life after an extended tiebreaker!
(3+1=4)
Avery does acrobatics over the table, luck(3) catching the notice of the weremouse. He successfully grabs the bottle, grabbing it thoroughly, attackofopportunity(6) and then noticing the claws flying at him. (5vs.3+1=4) (5vs.3) Tough luck. Avery receives gutscrapes. (horrible infection: 3) It hurts- but doesn't suddenly do weird things. (willpower: 3) Avery can't seem to concentrate on his spell. And it's not as though he could afford it- he seems to have forgotten to drink the bottle.

Mana theft is applied!
Zap(2+2=4)
Awk(4)
Weak, fizzy, workable. (1) Avery feels a slight tug on his mana, vs. 1(will), noticing odd fluctuations. ((really?)) -1 to Zap for Avery, next turn.

Random Event(2) Now what does a 2 mean? Nothing.

Spoiler: Avery (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Person (click to show/hide)

Avery will grab the weremouse and, aiming at person's face, throw the weremouse at him, then immediately follow up with, you guessed it nuclear rainboom. Then drink the safe bottle.

((That's why you should get a Strength Boost spell. Unfortunately that's not an option now.))

Turn Two: Azer Above All

INIT
Azer(1+2=3)
Drake(3-1=2)

Azer weaves his arms around, unleashing a hallucinations spell!
Zap(5+2=7)
Awk(2+1=3)
Luck(4)
The spell goes pretty well, pretty overpowered, with a slight touch of backlash. Luck(4) Azer shakes his head, trying to dispel the wisps of smoke that appeared in his vision. (-1 to Awk next turn, distraction)
(5+1(powerful)=6vs. 3)

Drake looks at Azer very thoroughly. Luck(1) What he sees is a lot of Azer. Azer appears to be smoky. All of Azer appears to be smoky. In fact, there's an entire army of Azer, all jumping around Drake randomly, jumping with glee. They chant, "AZER ABOVE ALL!!!"  It's a tad bit distracting, ya know? Luck(5), Will(5) Drake feels they won't last after this turn, however.

Drake fires off some acid breath anyway. Luck(5) There's that one guy who's not dancing madly...(-1 to hit, distractions) (4-1=3vs.2+2=4) A splatter of acid erupts from Drake's mouth, immediately(and barely) dodged by Azer.

Random Event(4) Noes.

Spoiler: Azer (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Drake (click to show/hide)
