Yes, mages should be able to spend 3 mana to increase their spell's Zap roll by 1, but doing this provokes a Luck roll: on a roll of 2 or less, the spell loses one Awk.

Sample Turn Two: Hurry Up and Cast Powerful Spells!

INIT:

Conein(6+2=8)

Conein fires another Magic Arrow at Azer.

(1+1=2)
(4+2=6)

A arrow shaped toothpick flies out of the aether and bounces off Azer's robe.

(4+2=6)
Conein moves next to the booze crate.

Azer casts a different type of spell...

(2+2=4)
(6+1=7)

A few gestures later and Conein is hit with hallucinogens- not too powerful, but very focused.

(5+1=6vs.6)

Conein sees a few odd wisps of smoke before the spell fails, incredibly. ((Any other roll and there would have been an effect.))
