Help with finding a good Mp3 player?
« on: May 25, 2015, 09:40:16 am »

Alright i looked around in some local stores and online and really couldn't find what i wanted, The cheap ones i see either have horrid reviews or suspiciously good reviews (8 reviews all 4/5 stars with long wordy detailed product descriptions that sound right off the back of the box)

So i am going to do a peer review kinda thing , This community is really helpful and has helped me a lot in the past with these kind of questions so i thought i would just try here

Im looking for a decent/good but cheap MP3 player.
Now that its summer i am looking to start losing some weight and i need something i can use while walking or riding my bike. I don't want to spend a lot on it for fear i break/drop or it gets stolen
Features don't really matter to me but some seem to have FM radio now days
Size doesn't matter i dont have a lot of songs so 4 gig will be more then enough
i was hoping for something like 20 bucks but if i feel its needed i might be able to do 25-30...i really don't want too though

Hopefully this is the right place for this, If not i apologize and thank anyone in advance for any suggestions you might offer

I'm guessing you don't already have a phone? Most cellphones these days play MP3s.

Nope, Far to broke for that and i really dont need one..Only thing i would want a phone for is the camera, Riding my bike around last year was something indeed
i seen some strange stuff

I watched a guy drive down a road with 2 flats on his right side sparking up a storm .
A big black woman have a screaming match with the city bus driver who got out of his bus ....She was "SO going to bust his ugly ass in DA FACE wit my milk" (she was carrying a 2 gallon of milk
Almost got hit by a car veering off onto the other side of the road cause she was on her phone..
Lots of getto fights of people having shouting matches on their porch ..( no i dont live in the getto or anything like that too )
1 real fist fight
Lots of accidents

If i had the money i would SO get one of those go pros for a helm or something just because i would have some weird shit to post on youtube if not for anything but laughs

Oh yea i watched a guy do donuts on the lawn of a taco bell only to speed off and crash into a tree...I had to stop for a while and appreciate the stupidity of the situation, left me speechless

I've had a little 2 gig MuVo (v100) Creative mp3 player for, uh. Probably six or seven years now, at the minimum? Probably longer. Had it so long I can't remember when I got it. Got it as a gift, though, and checking current prices it looks like it's outside the price range you're looking for. Still, for a no-frills mp3 player that apparently lasts a while, I'd recommend it.

No clue what's on the market these days, unfortunately, so all I can really do is wish you luck. It looks like there's a lot of sub-30 mp3 players putzing around the market at the moment, but quality wise there's no telling.

Fwiw, about 5-6 years ago I went through a few mp3 players in that price range before giving up because they all turned out to be pretty flakey - either poor sound quality, odd behaviour/'features', or just plain crashing all the time.  It's maybe improved since then what with tech getting better and cheaper, but I'm not sure how optimistic I'd be.

I ended up buying something quite a bit more expensive, but at the time I saw a lot of recommendations for the Sansa Clip as being one of the best in terms of value for money.  Unfortunately I'm not sure which particular model they were referring to, or whether it was the range as a whole - or whether that's still the best option.  Briefly skimming amazon, it also looks like they're a little outside your budget.  Still, may be worth researching in case there's decent refurbished or second hand options?

It might also be worth looking into cheap smartphones, even if you don't intend to ever use it as a phone.  I'm not sure if there's anything viable at the price range or not, but the market for phones is a lot bigger than the market for standalone mp3 players these days so there might be some decent options there.

I got a underwater speedo mp3, which has lasted me despite extra-rough use -ok, the cover of the play/pause buttons has fallen off but it's still works as intended. It's £40 on amazon, but you might get it cheaper on ebay. Just don't use the earphones for running, they won't last.
