Aha! Everyone floods their fortress, see!?

Not if your fortress Isn't near water, my "fortress" is a bunch of workbenches, rooms burial sites, memorials, and statues spread throughout at random. Its still functioning, and somehow everyone continues to live.

First time I've seen such a complicated dance as this one, and 15 dwarves are performing it, while one watches.  I suppose it's possible all of them are like this, and I've just never paid attention.

  Perform Dance   The dance has reached the point where its accompaniment is at a simple passage and a simple passage.
 The Assaulted Shields is a sacred group dance originating in The Vessel of Tails.  The form guides dancers during improvised performances.  The dance is accompanied by any composition of The Renowned Lancer.  The dancers perform loosely mingled, moving to the music's biban rhythm.  This dance is a refined artform, with three specific moves to be mastered.  The dance is punctuated by understated facial expressions, high body level and passive arm carriage, with movement mirrored by group members.

The dance enters a new section with the bridge-passage of the music.  This serene section is punctuated by independent body movement and body level changes, with partially realized moves. 
The dance enters a new section with the finale of the music.  The dancers perform very slowly with the music.  This sinuous passive section is punctuated by twisting counterclockwise half turns. 
The ingish is one of the fundamental dance moves.  There is a lively left kick with a vivacious leap. 
The dudgoth is one of the fundamental dance moves.  First, there is a grotesque rightward bend with a passive body level change.  Then there is a subtle right leg lift with a partially realized clockwise eighth turn. 
The stalk•b is one of the fundamental dance moves.  There is a joyous backward bend with a refined spin, a powerful arm carriage and calm independent body movement.   
 The Renowned Lancer is a devotional form of music directed toward the worship of Taron originating in The Vessel of Tails.  The rules of the form are applied by composers to produce individual pieces of music which can be performed.  The music is played on a emad, a distat and a likot.  The musical voices bring melody and counterpoint.  The entire performance should be made with feeling.  The melody and counterpoint both have short phrases throughout the form.  It is performed using the bidok scale and in the biban rhythm.  Throughout, when possible, composers and performers are to use grace notes and alternate tension and repose. 
The emad always does the counterpoint melody. 
The distat always does the counterpoint melody. 
The likot always does the main melody. 
The Renowned Lancer has a well-defined multi-passage structure: an introduction, a lengthy passage and an additional passage, a bridge-passage and a lengthy finale. 
The introduction is at a free tempo, and it is to start loud then be immediately soft.  The likot stays in the shrill high register and the emad stays in the breezy low register.  Only one pitch is ever played at a time in this passage. 
The first simple passage is at a free tempo, and it is to become louder and louder.  The likot stays in the strident low register and the emad covers its entire range from the breezy low register to the strained high register.  Chords are packed close together in dense clusters in this passage. 
The second simple passage gradually slows as it comes to an end, and it is to be soft.  The likot ranges from the raucous middle register to the shrill high register and the emad covers its entire range from the breezy low register to the strained high register.  This passage is richly layered with full chords making use of the available range. 
The bridge-passage is moderately paced, and it is to be loud.  The likot ranges from the strident low register to the raucous middle register and the emad stays in the breezy low register.  This passage typically has some sparse chords. 
The finale is very slow, and it is to be moderately loud.  The likot stays in the shrill high register and the emad covers its entire range from the breezy low register to the strained high register.  Chords are packed close together in dense clusters in this passage. 
Scales are constructed from fourteen notes dividing the octave.  In quartertones, their spacing is roughly 1-xx-x-x-x-x-xxx-x-x-x-xO, where 1 is the tonic, O marks the octave and x marks other notes.  The tonic note is a fixed tone passed from teacher to student.  After a scale is constructed, the root note of chords are named.  The names are mabdug (spoken ma) and zustash (zu). 
The bidok hexatonic scale is constructed by selection of degrees from the fundamental scale.  The degrees selected are the 1st, the 3rd, the 4th, the 6th, the 9th and the 11th. 
The biban rhythm is a single line with twenty-two beats divided into four bars in a 6-5-7-4 pattern.  The beat is stressed as follows:

where x is a beat, - is silent and | indicates a bar.

I nearly flooded my current fortress when it was built, as I didn’t kniw the exact location of the aquifer. I odprdered a wall to be built over the affected area imediately, and by some stroke of Godly luck, the Miner who had unleshed the flood blocked himself into the room exactly as the water reached the common room. He saved the fortress, at the cost of his own life.
The sad bit is that I may end up aandoning that Fort due to issues with the Living quarters and space.

To be fair I didn't flood anything. I closed the floodgate, and the manager got out of the well before I started filling it with water again, now it's all good.

I was looking around in a copy world with a dead Dwarven Civ to try and find a magma vent that reached the surface, so that I could start a Fort thtpere in the original version of the world. However, the sheer number of Forts I started and immediately abandoned upon digging to the caverns ended up repopulating the Dwraven Civ with all of the Dwarve srunning off after abandonment. At least four old Hillocks were re-established before I found out that you can find it with DFhack.

What are you referring to? The temple?

It may be better to not involve the military when a giant cave spider shows up since they respond to on-duty military with rapid-fire webbings and you can easily lose 20 legendary axedwarfs in a corridor. But that one civilian who is startled by a giant cave spider has a good chance to survive and even win.

I've played a lot of DF but my current fort is about 1 season away from being my first generation fort.  I've never had a fort last 12+ years before.
