Had the first Forgotten Beast attack. It was some kind of Giant Crab. I set to work arrangeing everything for my Baited Containment Area... and one of the Monster Hunters killed it. And only one of the guys died.
Must've attacked its weak point.

Started the pre-fort stage of Earthstop. While I get it all set up and start my varied industries, I'm considering my plans for the place. Eventually I'm going to build a large above ground entrance building flanked by two of what I've dubbed Umbrella Towers. Each one will be at least 10z tall, centered on a 3x3 staircase sans the center, leading up to a large room where captured goblins will be transferred. It will be a pitting setup and around the bases of the towers I'm going to place staggered rows of upright spikes.

I'm going to build a Goblin Grinder filled with cage traps to feed my towers. The entrance building is going to be a vaguely pentagonal fort with an elevated, probably moatless double drawbridge. A squat, stout, utilitarian building. Might do a spike moat with pressure plate triggers.

The underground portion will be the subsurface support strata, wood workshops, farms, etc. Mid level, near the caverns, I'll carve out an elaborate city. At the magma sea will be the forges and craft shops.

Probably gonna put a tavern and temple in the above ground fort, with the Trade Depot and military barracks.

I finally got around to designating a temple. I put it outside, to help my dwarves get over their cave adaptation.

I find the sight of a dozen dwarves all vomiting onto the floor of a pavilion very amusing.
"Urist?"
"Yeah, Tobol?"
"Why do we get dizzy and feel nauseous when we go to the temple?"
"That's the feeling of communing with your deity, son."

So, I've been trying to kill every animal in the fort for reasons of FPS, and I don't want to use atom smashers.
And, uh...

... then I checked its status.

What. Do cats have teeth in places where humans normally don't? Why just one?!

Your kitten doesn't have extra teeth. They're gone, can't you read?

But no, "eye tooth" is another word for upper canines (cuspids). All mammals have them.

Dwarves are depressed because they saw too many goblin corpses.

Your dwarves are goblin sympathizers. Kill them all.

The baroness (a human I appointed a while back) threw a tantrum and was beaten up by the military.
Good job, guys.

I expelled every unhappy one to another hold.
Only the military remains cool, so maybe I should  train everyone so they get used to dead gobs.

The fetid goo raining on the southern third of the map doesn't cause ill effects to creatures but somehow obliterated a wagon and sent the caravan fleeing in terror. Odd.

Congratulations. You have discovered wagon poison.

In all seriousness, I'd guess the despairing animals ran off, kicking the wagons to smithereens in the process.

I've had wagons scuttle cause of animals freaking out, and cause of drivers freaking out. Seems kind of arbitrary.

Well, they're a compound entity. Draft animals, driver, and wagon are all interconnected in order to create a singular functioning beast of burden. If any one of those elements breaks, the whole thing falls apart.

Imagine a Portuguese man o' war where the tentacles got scared and ran off to do their own thing. Nobody wins in that situation.
