Don't ask me why, but...

After hearing about the Brussels attacks, I wanted to play DF.

So I did, and beat the holy schnot out of every goblin I could find. damn terrorists
Armok wills it.

Daily reminder that Armok is a dwarf.

Just discovered that with my floor plan, all of the housing levels will fall within a marble layer. That should drive property values up a bit.

calling their king gay

Why would they even care? Beard is all that matters in dwarven relationship, offsprings are just bonus.

They're really into beards. Why do I have the feeling there's a term for that? o3o

Successfully dammed the river. I'm considering building the trade depot in there.

Check the combat screen (key r ) , this list when animals and childs are fighting too.
If the childs weren't fighting in the combat screen, it's then possible a hunter of your fortress killed the orn and the child were close enough to be afraid of the kill (and when afraid, the AI gain the ability to climb, sadly they don't have any ability to climb down out of being afraid or being in combat themselves, so they always stupidly will starve to death, i hope Toady will finally fix that , it's been annoying since 40.x), not all dwarven child are fearless kea-destroyers terminators :D

The reports were too old so I checked the log.

Quote
The great horned owl slams into an obstacle!
The great horned owl's head takes the full force of the impact, bruising the muscle!
The great horned owl's right wing takes the full force of the impact, bruising the muscle!
The dwarven child punches the great horned owl in the head with his right hand and the injured part collapses!
An artery has been opened by the attack!

It seems the owl crashed on the tree and was beaten up by the child. But I don't know if he was the same child.

I am breeding giant vultures, they are particularly nasty. Is there anything I should know or look out for?

Giant birds are much less effective as attack animals when domesticated, as they don't have the AI to attack from above. That's about it.

Siege flag refused to leave the screen, again.
It seems unit stuck off map is a thing now? I can see their equipments from the stockpile menu, but not their persons.

Is that in a game started in .06 or .05? .06 fixed some map connectivity issues iirc.
If it's in a world genned in .06, do file a bug report.

Despite embarking in a freezing area, the ocean refused to ice over, even in the winter. Well now I can try the coastal fishing trench once I drive the local bird populations extinct and wall off the caverns.

Check up Z levels as well... this can be really annoying when goblins (which don't eat or drink, and thus don't starve) climb trees, get stuck, and just sit.  Forever.

I'm new to succession forts in general, yes, but do all forts designed by multiple overseers inevitably degenerate into a body-filled labyrinth of chaos and despair like this? Or is this just a Battlefailed thing?

There isn't much middle ground between killed-by-dragon and never-seen-by-dragon.

I got to the underground with ANOTHER downward passage not far were I dug out. And on a island too, so finding the edges of the map are going to be harder. The entrance is loaded with cage traps so (almost) anything will be mine if they step too close. A gremlin oddly didn't activate the pressure plate that closes the drawbridge to lock access to the caverns if anything stepped on it. Oh well, it ran into layer 2 and continued on.

Three Dralthas wandered near the entrance and got caged. When I looked where they came from a wild Draltha was injured by something... The downward passage is now sealed off.

Later more "trap needs cage" spam told me that more creatures must has got caught and this time they were druians! I found that they all climbed across the lake and ran towards the entrance. I think druians are war trainable so they may can replace the dogs?

Until youy let your guard down, assume it's a bug, then BOOM drop bear goblin.
