Got the baron appropriately ensconced.

Now to deal with that forgotten beast that's been taunting me from cavern #2, if the framerate doesn't kill me first...

Finally I found the corpse of the ghost dwarf while going through the stockpile records.
He starved himself on a tree.
And he was not the first one...

It happens, i almost two dwarves up a tree in my first few years of my current fort, none lost since though. In other news i had a 130 odd strong goblin siege(strangely enough weaker than the last one), which i once again sent my now refreshed mercenary's on. The Elso the Goblin Maceman from last time was once again the only survivor of the mercenary though this time i had to send in my local melee squad to finish off the last of the goblins after he also lost the ability to stand after having his foot cut open(he later made a full recovery). Once again, no citizen deaths. Later some children could be seen playing the corpse pile.

I also irrigated the newly built tree farm, and a dwarf fell down the stairs and ended up with half her body mangled, but fortunately my inexperienced doctors were able to reduce these down to fractures and issue her with a crutch(my more experienced doctors were too busy "socializing").

Getting back into DF, playing some 42.05 before going unmodded .06 in order to remember. Grey Langurs continue to be the bane of my existance, although I have a new favourite dwarf in a random lye maker who just beat the snot out of one of the monkeys with a beer pot.

A miner fell into the magma long time ago and I let them inscribe a slab for him.
I completely forgot about the slab until his ghost showed up...this was what I got:

Edit*

Hint: Check the miner's name and one of the crafter's name.

A cyclops came. I wanted to catch it so I opened the hatch cover. Too bad I forgot to burrow my dwarves... and the cyclops was beaten to death by a gang of angery dwarves.
----------------

A vile force of darkness...well there were only 10 goblins and my 2 legendary dwarves killed them all in a few second.

Can you confirm that there are no other dwarves by that name in your fortress?

Is it possible that the slab was decorated before he died, just not yet engraved into a memorial?

Ghosts doing certain labors (fishing, animal training, siege operating) is attested, but if that decoration happened after Edum's death it would be the first example of a ghost doing a labor that required a workshop.

Well, it's been an eventful spring.

First an invasion force of 200 goblins, trolls, dwarves and beak dogs shows up, the second one in as many years. In fact, I'd just finished cleaning up the mess the last one left behind. I take a number of casualties as a result of dwarves bravely charging out of the supremely defensible position they're stationed in to engage the full force of the enemy on the narrow bridge over the spike pit. The idea was to fire at the enemy while they're on the bridge, causing them to dodge off it into the spikes 20 z-levels below, a tactic which seems to work just as well for the enemy crossbowgoblins. Oh well...

At the end of the siege most of my experienced soldiers are dead, the surviving force consisting mainly of the soldiers who decided to sit out the siege in the tavern over a cup of dwarven wine. The corpse of the last goblin isn't even cold when a weremonkey decides to make a surprise visit and starts tearing up the tavern. By the time the weremonkey is slain several patrons have received bites. Now, my usual tactic for werebeast damage control  has been to lock them up in individual cells in medbay. Unfortunately patrons don't seem to go to hospital, and in fact I can't think of a way to isolate them from the general population unless they happen to go to their rooms. So they stay in the tavern and temples and library, mingling with my as-of-yet uninfected weaponsmiths, armorsmiths, medical personell and so on. This should be fun...

The logical answer is that yeah, the slabs were pre-decorated prior to engraving. Spoil the fun, sure. :V

They hang out in savage mountains as well as savage tundras and savage glaciers. Got any mountains on your map?

I have a mini-mountain I just finished flattening, but I'm not in a Mountain biome. From what I remember of embark, I'm sitting on the corner of three different good forest biomes.

Poor fellas. Hope they don't show up or they're getting stuffed in cages so fast.
