It's been a while since I had a fort with a badass deity. I recall a volcano goddess back in my big immortal volcano fort in the DF2012 days. Unofficially dedicated my arena shooting gallery to it.

Several in-game days spent purging intellectuals and being locked out of the caverns by an inorganic FB has lead to moving to greener pastures, and another green tribe. May come back to it, to finish out Gogol's attempt at survival.

Stupid clear glass bird.



Finally had an idea. Modded satyrs and foul blendecs to fill the new tribes. Went better than expected, with a war on against the satyrs. Worked better than the first time, since a screw up lead to a civilization of tree-loving bronze colossi. :P

I think they'll work well in the role as openly hostile races that prowl the forests in search of victims (satyrs like to nick things, while blendecs are outright antagonistic.)

Like before, my tribe settles in the shadow of a cave, but this time I'm going to try to build a proper town.

...iad ended in disaster. Tribes are scattered. The satyrs came in force and burned out fields and plundered our storerooms. Many tribesmen lay slain, and they prowl the land for us still. We are lost.

The raid was our only hope, to free our kin. We now seek shelter from the satyr war parties at a sunken cave, called Strapshadow. The elves who pointed us here called it Fepaobi in their tongue.

So be it. This place will be the final stand of former grand tribe of The Spongy Kingdom. We will now call ourselves The White League, and our new home Swampmurders. We will fight the goatmen as long as it takes for them to hear the trees scream in horror at the murder.


EDIT: And not a single one of this civ's crops is of any use in this biome. Guess I can use the rice and mung beans for meals.

I finished my execution chamber and promptly began to release unwilling Gecko/Mosquito humanoids in a pit of giant desert scorpions to see the effectiveness of scorpion stingers on invaders. The goal was to see if they could be used during a siege as a early buffer for my military. If successful the well armored veteran military squad guarding my entrance would not be necessary and could be actively used to survey the underground caverns.

Testing revealed that the scorpions were beaten in some cases severely by the test subjects, but had definitely poisoned everybody. Many victims lay on the ground sick before abruptly dying. The results unexpectedly proved that unarmed humanoids were rather resilient against scorpion poison, and even one of the mosquito women had literally sucked the venom out of her body using her proboscis and fought on for another good rounds before being overwhelmed.

Conclusion. Scorpions would be unable to hold a full blown siege without dwarf intervention as it appears they are easily wounded even by unarmored enemies. They will be placed behind the guarding dwarfs as auxiliary support. The test has also revealed scorpions are able to speak dwarfish. That is one of my dwarfs had gotten into an argument with one of the scorpions and was visibly upset. Further investigations into scorpion intelligence are pending.

But what if you use more power scorpions?

BA GAWD


Elves brought me a raven, a giant bobcatisbob, a sloth, a hyena, a gazelle, and a rhinoceros in my first elf-caravan spring.

The bob and the rhino are wartrainable.  :D :D :D :D

Goblin Werebear popped along. Killed three Dwarfs, three war dogs, harmed the hyena that killed it and bit three other dwarfs including my starter smith and exp leader.

A werebison attacked in the middle of the orchard harvest season. Happily, the werebison picked up a x(brown recluse spider silk shoe)x from his second victim and proceeded to bash an unconscious child in the head (bruising the muscle) for friggin ages, sparing a number of potential victims. He did eventually pulp the kid's head, but by that time the full moon was almost over.

The goblins brought tons of trolls, which being faster than goblins all ran into the trapline and died first. I only managed to kill 2 goblins before they started to retreat, killing a total of 4. On the upside, the siege was broken so quickly that the elven caravan arrived, was attacked by retreating goblins and left behind a nice caged giant hedgehog for me.

Summer came, the human caravan came and went. Looks like my military will have plenty of time to train before anything comes along that they need to worry ab-

My fortress appears to have come aflame.

I set up shop on the hilltop right where the wagon stopped, which was right next to the volcano. A year passed, and everything but the forges was on that small patch of land. Then the local magma crabs surfaced, and the grass and everything on it burned.

The only thing I've really lost is all the booze. I have plenty of xleatherx, XplantsX, XXboneXX, and unscathed roasts. Maybe because it was below freezing? Oh well, it's well past time to move underground. The first cavern is secure against jumpers, non-fliers, and non-climbers, though there is a cave croc wandering about. It might have swum in.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

After a recent attack of zombies, I finally got a marksdwarf squad set up. To provide training ammo (and make some space in the refuse stockpile), I turned a peasant into a bonecarver and told him to make 30 sets of bone bolts. I just looked at the list of bolts, and found:

+elf bone bolts [5]+

I didn't think dwarves would make stuff out of the bodies of sentient creatures.

Seems a shame to use them for training. I'd rather set them aside for when the next elven caravan comes by.

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.

They won't butcher them, but if part of a sapient critter decays to the point of being a stack of bones, they'll use that stack of bones.
