Wait, how do you have that many creatures on embark on the map? Is this a river thing?

While I embarked there specifically for the river shape, I think it had more to do with three different regions being on the same embark, the game presumably tried to represent each one with a separate animal population. Though I'm at a loss about the wild Elkbirds, there wasn't a cave in sight.

Wow! Releasing caged prisoners in my arena with a trained Hydra turned out to be a very bad idea. It caused some sort of loyalty issues and all my visitors suddenly turned hostile. The tavern and library were a bloodbath. Then my trained Hydra got out of the arena (needless to say that I had completely forgotten about the trolls she was chewing on) and she also started going after all my dwarves, military or not. Over 30 visitors died and nearly as many dwarfs. Considering this a bug, I think I'm going to pull a mulligan and save-scum it.

Did the Hydra get named beforer you captured and trained it? Could be an age old bug where named creatures are unreliable like that

This time I immediately checked the depot contents, to find that they had brought an alpaca wool bag of magma.

That's awesome. Did you at any point export minecarts of magma in your world?

So basically the Mountainhomes is now sending complimentary cheese dip with every caravan.

I'm quite sure that these are just Swiss dorfs. They seem to have a thing for pots of melted cheese. You could see if they brought any of those funny long forks. Better act quick though, before somebody figures out how to weaponize it.

I'm guessing they were intended to be part of the goblin squad, but got assigned to the wrong faction. When Mantis comes back up you should report it as a bug.

This time I immediately checked the depot contents, to find that they had brought an alpaca wool bag of magma.

I just noticed, when working on my magma pumpstack, that rocks dumped into magma turn into an item called 'magma'. I can't remember that being so before. I thought that they used to turn into map spatter called 'molten rock'.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That might explain them bringing magma. If a civilization has only 1 item of a certain material, worldgen will regard it as having unlimited access to that material. So if somewhere in worldgen something happened that dropped a rock in magma, or magma on a rock (volcano?), within a civilization's site, I guess they'll have access to this magma. Perhaps dragonfire will turn stone items into magma as well, who knows.

EDIT: now I do wonder, if I put some steel gauntlets on a dwarf, will he be able to haul (I can order a dump job on it) that magma? Or do I need clown silk gloves for that?

one of my marksdwarf squads just plain old refused to go to my station. Now two recruits and two marksdwarf actually have 'station' on, one is asleep, one is binning something, two are meditating on lakes! and one is praying to kadol! ffs

Apperantly one of my mercenaries, Kisnast the pikewoman, is married to a dancer

Is the station accessible?  If dwarves can't reach the X that is the station they'll go off and do whatever.

pray! and meditate! override all military jobs, including station. You'll just have to wait till they're done praying. If you're using 42.03 they're stuck unless you use my workaround. If you're using 42.04, they should get back to work once they're done praying.

That's true.  But one of them's putting stuff in a bin somewhere.  That could be a waterskin or quiver or the like if equipment orders were changed around, but it could mean the dwarf is doing ordinary civilian stuff.

Nah he's probably putting a mug or goblet in a bin after a drink job. Even full time military does that. Unless you have no bins allowed taking mugs/goblets anywhere.

Probably that. I just dezoned the temple out from under the mcap's lazy, but stylish (srsly, schorl-studed troll fur cloak, ta goblins) ass. Of course it took a million years to get to the stationing.

oh well.

Also my baroness got superpromoted to Duchess. Her sweet pad was suddenly not enough. So I thought I'd make some fancy new racks and stands like she needs and build some statues. I placed them, but it didn't seem enough.

Then I realized I had three artefact statues, that oughtta sort her proper.  :P
