Well, the siege did not go nearly as well as I had hoped, but in the end we proved victorious. Is it just me, or do refuse stockpiles not accept goblin corpses?

Also also, I have a bunch of hydra-worshippers in this fort, but I haven't seen anyone pray to the hydra or have any thoughts related to the hydra. Not sure if intended.

Hail Hydra !

It's sad that the dwarves don't actually pray to them in fortress mode though. We need badass hydra shrines ! And then you catch the hydra when it inevitably attacks you and then you chain a god inside the shrine dedicated to them.

My militia commander, a crossbowdwarf, has grown attached to a chalk mug. I hope he can still shoot. He still has his crossbow strapped to his upper body.

My four crossbow dwarves like to go up to enemies and bash them with their beer mugs.

Oh I can declare a shrine to the hydra - I just haven't found anyone praying to it or contemplating its divine attributes (Muck, Rebirth, Strength) in the temporary, shared temple. We'll see if that changes when I get around to the hydra temple.

Not sure how I'm going to make a temple of Muck, Rebirth, and Strength, though. Could periodically flood it to cover the first two, I guess... and have the worshippers pump the water out when the flood is over? idk.

They were a stonecrafter and a mason, and instead of grabbing rocks laying only a dozen tiles from their respective workshops, they decided to go out the fortress back-door and trek across the map to pick up microcline and kimberlite respectively from the wagon entrance.

This is why all of my stone workshops (mason's, mechanic's, and the craftdwarf's that uses rocks) have dedicated feeder stockpiles that give to their respective workshops.  With wheelbarrows.

That seemed to work.

Anyhow, perhaps I should explain why and how everything went so wrong. What was supposed to happen was that the goblins would wade right through my masterfully constructed trapline; what actually happened is that only some of them waded through it, and some of them jumped through holes in the roof (damn those trees and the way they make holes in the soil layer when you cut them down!) to attack my dwarfs. If I hadn't had so many war dogs nearby, things could've gone much worse. I'm guessing that they only jumped because they saw my dwarfs, and that moving them to a lower burrow where they can't be seen from the surface next time will have the gobbos marching into the meatgrinder again. I hope I'm right; the last siege was only 120 gobbos, and they took dozens of war dogs and a few dwarfs with them.

In other news, my elaborate scheme to cast a great block of obsidian in which I will carve out my tavern/dining hall, new temples, all my living space, my hospital and libraries continues on. The thing that's slowing me down now is my masons not churning out stone blocks fast enough.

After an unfortunate incident involving a Forgotten Beast in the form of of a giant web-shooting eyeless alligator in which 95%+ of the militia and over half the fortress were brutally dismembered, cleanup has been going up for a season, not even counting the huge mound of dead goblins from the last siege. Most dwarves are stressed or haggard. And now, the pets of dead dwarves have begun dropping like flies since nobody is feeding them.

It's pretty frickin' grim is what I'm saying.

One of my dwarven kids is playing make believe in between the rotting corpses of the (y-designated) corpse stockpile, which is outside my walls, out in the open.
That kid's not only begging to get abducted by a goblin, I think she'd feel right at home in a dark fortress.
She has "a very bad sense of empathy", "personally values cunning and does not care about friendships"

Retired a fort to kill a resident troupe that did nothing but cause trouble and eat my roasts using an adventurer, unretired it to find two hundred and ninety merchants roaming my site and the adventurer having become an Upright Spike.
Yay.

The goblins sent another siege - only 30 of them! It's insulting, but you know what? At least I got off it without any casualties.

I had just set up my library and recived my fortresses first scholar, when horror of horrors, i received the message
The dead walk, hide while you still can!

Fortunately my fort was quickly walled off, but a three fisherdwarfs(including my (promoted from within) queen) were trapped outside and killed. I almost managed to get one to mine themselves away from the abdominations, but he was caught just before he could wall himself off.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I am now building cages for a massive corridor of cage traps to trap the zombies

I embarked on a dragon lair. Reloading the save makes the game crash. Dreams of dragon farming go up in flames.
