*fixed your link in the spoiler* Need the bbcode here, though I am curious if it could parse html and insert appropriate tags now...

Many HTML tags work, including the normal <img> tags; that one was broken because of the included title text.

Ah, curse you Imgur. I will learn from that, sorry!

Turns out undead don't pose much of a threat at all when you can divide and conquer, especially since I already managed to make mince meat out of the necromancers themselves.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You know, now that I think of it when I embarked I was sure to check the neighboring civs screen precisely so this wouldn't happen, and it didn't show any towers whatsoever. This is the second undead siege I've gotten. Mildly annoyed now that I think about this, doubly so since i've killed 5 necromancers now. How many could there be in our invisible neighboring tower?

Was "Town, Fortress, Forest Retreat, etc" on the neighbors list? It's also possible that a tower or one of the previously mentioned sites popped up if your using DF2014.

I'm seriously developing a burning hate for armor stands.
Now see, the queen really likes them and mandates them all the time. And battle axes. But mostly armor stands, armor stands and armor stands. I have hundreds of those things and they are slowly starting to outnumber the platinum statues I judiciously placed everywhere. The only reason I haven't atomsmashed the darn queen yet is the fact that she's one of the starting seven (the civ's last site was overrun by the goblins and elves a season after I embarked.) I am pondering whether I should build a 160 z-level pump stack for the magma (and finally figure out how pump stacks work) or just retire and embark over this nice spot with a volcano in the middle of a glacier when some legendary platinum statue forger grabs a bunch of stuff and locks himself in the forge.
Guess what this moron has been wasting my candy on.

Hey, queen, want to have another armor stand in your tomb?

What if you remove hauling jobs for all but the queen and let her sell tose armor stands?

I had a noble who liked animal traps and rings.
Battle axes aren't that bad as long as you can melt them.

Nah, only the standard Elf, Human, Dwarf and Goblin neighbors. Interesting idea about it popping up in the interim. If/when I retire the fort I will take a look on the embark screen.

Wow. I actually have a helpful noble. At first, he got kinda pissy cos he didn't have a throneroom, tomb or dining room or whatever, but after that he was pretty cool. He mandates ballistae, so I have some hich ranking seige engineers and some okay ballista parts. He also mandates rings, which helped me really get my economy going from all that pond turtle shell.

You know, I've never thought of that, but that could actually work. I mean, she would probably violate her own mandate, but as a queen she can't get convicted. And the platinum statues would deal with the bad thought in no time.
It would be a little bit fiddly with disabling jobs on about 150 non-military dwarves, but what do I have Dwarf Therapist for.
Some of the armor stands are made of platinum though, so I probably can't sell them all in one go.
Oh, and I agree, the battle axes aren't that bad.

You could use DF hack to autodump them into a square next to the dept, THEN sell them.

So then, the axedwarf who was under the commander who killed the wererhino at the cost of her own life is apparently a bad ass himself. during his off time he works as a fisher, therefore taking him outside the safety of the fortress often. This would have been a bad thing if it was any other dwarf when a siege happens. However not so for the new Commander.

On his way back from fishing with his catch, a goblin siege shows up, right by him. With nowhere to run and 10 goblins howling for his blood, he does the only thing he can do, grab his weapon and shield to prepare to fight this group of baddies. Little do the goblins know they are in for a rough fight.

Cue a battle which lasts a day, with blows being thrown at the commander from every direction. His axe and shield blocking the blows as he goes into a trance. Fighting the goblins with ease. As the next day dawns he finally finishes the battle. His form covered in blood and guts, with the dismembered remains of his foes all around him. His only injury is a bruise on his weapon hand and arm.

From there he calmly picks up the fish he dropped and heads back to the fortress to drop it off in the stockpile. I like to think he is whistling a jaunty tune while he does this.

Interestingly enough, before he was in the military he got into a fight with a Gray Langur which he lost a tooth and had his nose mangled, leaving him not a pretty image to look at. Since the battle against the goblins, he has trained heavily and is now a legendary axelord.
