Undead in the caverns finally managed to take down the tricerators (probably because it was so fond of tearing off limbs that it ended up fighting a horde of them). But since it died in the evil half there's now a zombie forgotten beast down there. I guess I should be thankful it killed the giant cave spiders in the non-evil part.

Also, the harassment from undead wildlife is leading to lots of little injuries which, combined with my lack of attention to the whole soap thing, has resulted in several dwarves dropping dead from infections :(

One of my Dwarves has "was completely unmoved to see an Emu die" x8 in his mood description. Witness to an Emu massacre, and he is utterly unimpressed.

Any skeletons or corpses that are described as "mangled" can't be reanimated. Mangled bodies are typically caused by dying from pulping attacks. Pulped heads always cause a corpse to be non-reanimateable.

Maybe it's mutilated, not mangled. Close enough.

No its mangled. Mutilated means there are limbs missing from the corpse.

My engraver has a habit to engrave a certain human taming giant mantis. For example:

Resilteling, "The Comedic Coasts" Engraved on the wall is a masterfully designed  image of Kiwan Brassevened the human and giant mantises by Nish Sazirotil.  Kiwan Brassevened is  surrounded by the giant mantises.  The artwork relates to the taming of the giant mantises of The Untoward Jungle by the human Kiwan Brassevened in the late autumn of 58 during The Fourth Journey of the human Kiwan Brassevened.

And some dwarven child created a bone spear.

Likot `Hatchet' Idlotol, Dwarven Child has created Adekkurel Gesis Bal, a cougar bone spear!

Same, but for me it's Klurin the raven man taming the giant thrips in 69.

After trying many times, I generated a smaller world with extinct dwarves and living everything else. Result? I have a queen and 32 dwarves.

a certain human taming giant mantis.

First read that and thought that there was a giant mantis in history that had figured out how to domesticate humans.

I just found a barrel which contained a wheelbarrow. Inside the wheelbarrow was another barrel. I don't even understand how that is possible.
