I hope they finished those walls before spring.

Just noticed there's a colony of ants on the frozen ocean.

You built bedrooms above ground? Is this supposed to be the human challenge?

Weathers in DF can be really funny.
Now it is winter and the ocean is frozen. A snow storm has come, But only the ocean biome snows, the forest and grass land is sunny.

You should try to get hold of a place on the border of two water biomes. It's very neat when the ocean freezes and thaws in steps over several weeks.

Biome borders cutting through a river are also quite nice to look at. The weirdest i've seen, though, was an "arctic" sea that never froze. It bordered on a land biome that froze and unfroze normally, and all precipitation over the ocean fell as snow, but it somehow must've gotten bugged so that no phase change ever occurred in that biome - all water stayed liquid and the snow sunk to the bottom of the water without ever melting. I've never seen that again (it wasn't even a general bug in the DF version, other worlds behaved normally).

Can be a pain in an ass if you've got a waterfall and the colder biome is upriver of it. The river's drain freezes over, but the water is pressurized from the falls, so the river starts spilling over its banks on the lower level. Wherever the overflow touches the colder biome it freezes solid, so the water starts filling the lower plain. Then a month later, the warmer biome freezes, and the entire lower plain is now encased in ice.

I had to burrow my dwarves every autumn between the first and second freezes.

Hmm, maybe I should let them mine out the entire frozen ocean in next winter.

So I made a colony in the caverns and am currently sealed off from the world thanks to the white tigermen, goblin, dark strangler, and frogmen races that I am at peace with. Hm. Things are going OK other than that. Except for the 4 forgotten beasts all in the (only one I discovered yet) first cavern. What the heck! Ones flying and none have killed each other yet so I am worried that A the flying one comes in and kills all my Dwarfs or B the caverns are nigh inaccessible for the rest of the forts future thanks to all of the FB's. Both are bad so does anyone have any suggestions? By the way my military still sucks so my best choice for now is to hide like a coward, and I am currently in the middle of a painfully slow roofing project in the caverns. At least that's what I have been doing. Thanks in advance for any assistance/constructive criticism!  :D

The exact moment I turn on my magma pump stack, and just as a new migrant wave is arriving.... a werebeast shows up at my front gate.

It's a werellama. A WERE-LLAMA. I'm going to be over here, laughing hysterically.

Edit: The WERE-LLAMA took heavy damage from Urist McMigrantHunter before my military even got there; and my Axe Lord took his head off, but not before biting the WERE-LLAMA on the eyelid.

Good experience for my guys, I guess?

Made a fort in a desert that supposedly had shallow metals. There were absolutely no metals or wood, so I broke into the caverns early. In two months, a forgotten beast showed up and killed everyone.

So, same fort where I had necromancers in the cavern. We're being swarmed by thieves. Aren't these things supposed to show up one by one? I have received twenty seven thieves since the start of spring, it's the beginning of winter. Gotten a few nice iron large daggers though. I'll have a few knife users going, just to kill thieves.

While sparring an axe lord and a hammer lord apparently teleported through solid rock to a locked room. They nearly died of thirst before I noticed where they had ended up.

Glassmaker had a mood that failed, and he went berserk!  He leapt at the Furnace Operator, attempting to...

*BAM!*

Furnace Operator hit him so hard his head exploded.  So much for that.  We now return to our regularly scheduled smelting.

I'm new to succession forts in general, yes, but do all forts designed by multiple overseers inevitably degenerate into a body-filled labyrinth of chaos and despair like this? Or is this just a Battlefailed thing?

There isn't much middle ground between killed-by-dragon and never-seen-by-dragon.

AAHH! Smesp the flying FB snuck in and by the time I realized it (A siege had just entered a death chamber) he had, wait. I dont think anyone died? What? He was a lizard so he wasint like a steam monster. he had deadly spittle. (Not sure what it does yet, it just bruised my Dwarfs.) Huh! Thats good. Time to slow down the roof project then.  :)
