The burial of the founding miner, Ongeth Graspmirror, who dehydrated while digging the well reservoir, is taking too long. As a result her ghost has risen from the dead. She's currently following her lover, Ral Partnermirror, one of the other founding miners. Ral is currently smoothing and engraving her tomb with his unskilled hands, but it's the thought that counts. Ral thinks that it is frightening to be "haunted by the ghost of my lover." Love this new thought and emotion system.

Will probably bury the two of them together when Ral bites the dust. They couldn't marry in life, so they'll be married in death. Maybe I'll leave Ongeth unburied so the ghost will follow Ral for the rest of his life. Ongeth's ghost seems harmless enough.

So, goblins can open locked hatches from below now? There goes my containment design...

Oh dear, does this work for building destroyers as well?  The caverns may never be safe again!

Although even as I type this, I can envision some clever cave-in security systems.

I thought that wasn't supposed to happen at all but I had one goblin pikeman who simply wouldn't stay locked in. I nicknamed him "Houdini" before sending a squad after him. After that I added another level to my pit construction and subsequent prisoners have stayed where they're supposed to be.

In other news, the experimental invader steam bath concept yielded promising results in preliminary testing. A boulder dropped from a trapdoor to magma raised enough magma mist to ignite the passing goblin, burning down the body but leaving his metal gear intact. Next I'll try to combine garbage disposal and the pressure plate-triggered steam bath trap.

man how do you guys get magma and water moved around so effectively.

I'm lucky if I can build a magma forge and a cistern. Using it for traps and such seems nigh impossible. Plus, excessive movement of the stuff drops fps like crazy.

Well, this design needed only a one-tile wide pool of the stuff, side-channeled from the forges magma cistern. No moving liquids were involved after the initial pumping.

Rivertrapped isn't a happy human town nowadays. Main exports: gloomy thoughts and self-destruction. Major imports: goblin sieges and werebeasts.

First a weremammoth and now a were-elephant. Those are devilish things.

Edit.

Just witnessed an epic and desperate battle between a bowman and were-elephant. The bowman danced around the beast and it just couldnt hit him! And that damn hero fired arrow after arrow...

Well that's life. Luckily his buddies managed to give some... covering fire...

Then he turned into his human form. Zom Ultraevil the peasant, right.

Hmm, all my ranged units are crossbowmen, so... did that guy just keep shooting after his arm was torn off?

Cave adaption stroke back!

I think they spent too many times hauling corpse and clothes underground this time.

The former mayor went insane and ran out so my outpost liaison became the new mayor.
But despite the change, I still couldn't assign him any jobs.

Some of my dogs had rotten parts. I think need a veterinarian...
I just pastured them on the roof so they wouldn't give off miasmas.

This is Rimtar Riderhame and a giant cheetah. Rimtar is upset that a dog got attacked by a Giant Cheetah and she went out to get revenge. She's been chasing this animal all over the map for five days.

High-speed, high-flying animal men have been terrifying my pastured animals. Or are being terrified by my own pastured animals. Or something. Sometimes the animals get blue exclamation points, and sometimes something zooms by at the speed of sound that looks like a blue exclamation point. It'd be amusing if it didn't generate so many "pasture animal" jobs.

I was so focused on building a trading caravan maze that I forgot to actually make trading goods to actually trade to my first caravan visitors. I had a dwarf make about three dozen unspecial mugs before they threatened to leave. I managed to trade for a bit of food and some desperately needed booze (forgot to start booze production too!).

Besides the assortment of incredibly noobish mistakes I've been making things progress well in Jadeiron. I requested an assortment of tin and copper bearing ore from the caravan, and hopefully when the next caravan from The Dreamy Wall arrives I'll be able to buy those and some other stuff.

I have never seen so much exposed native gold ore. There's some aluminum out there too. I think I might mine all the gold ore, add some block walls, and engrave the floors. That should give my noble quarters some pizazz.

Can you change his job to hunter and equip him with a crossbow to help him, or not?

It might not be clear from the picture but Rimtar is a three year old child.

Oh.

Kick that Cheetah's ass, Rimtar!  Make your parents proud (if they still live)!

I only use the ASCII tileset, that's why I missed it.
