I have embarked on the volcano my adventurer fell into after leaving a large pile of faceted metal shields and weapons on the peak. This should be interesting, if I don't die.

It became summer a minute after I started the game, and I got a migrant wave in less then two weeks.

Forgotten beast showed up; winged skinless chameleon with deadly dust, which as it turned out is simply a potent knockout gas. Wrecked quite a few of my military dwarves, and now the ENTIRE FORTRESS is coming to collect wounded/dead, seeing the Beast, and joining in the clusterfuck.

This fort was down to 5 FPS anyway, so I guess if I lose it it won't be TOO bad...

Searingmines got new neighbors! "Sin of Fat", the goblin civilization that has been steamrolling through the continent during the last decade and half, just appeared into the civilization list.

It's always nice to see new faces in the neighborhood; the children haven't had anyone to play with for such a long time. Or, if they just want to pop in for some nice hot magma, that's fine too.

Sorry, off topic for a minute: HOLY F**K, 2500 pages?!

Anyway...
Back on topic:

My only miner decided to go for a drink in the river filled with alligators; he got slaughtered, but he managed to land one good hit on one of them. The only problem being, the pick got stuck in his leg. So now my only pick is in the river, stuck in the one alligator with his own name.

Predictably, the Forgotten Beast picked off my dwarves one by one. Goodbye Diamondroot.

New fort, half good-aligned badlands, half neutral plains.
Made sure I had humans and elves as neighbours, and happily I don't have goblins at all~

Well, I decided to start using up-ramps to remove the layers around my central living section, having fun designing with multilevel appearance in mind.

A bunch of unicorns roamed onto the map and got chased into my cage traps by the kea corpses, how delightful, into the happythoughts room you go!

I even got a skeletal one to put in the depot area to release on jerky merchants, along with several undead elves which I use to make more undead elves.

Hmmm, I started trying to use pressurized water from fortifications branched off of my drainage system to flush some of the corpses towards the non-reanimating parts of the caverns, haven't checked on that in a while.

Let's give it a look see...

The caverns belong to the dead now, my drain did move most of the corpses away from the reanimating portion of the map, but when I tried to do the same in the second cavern it reduced the pressure and turned it into a mist generator for undead horrors... which fits since the place IS named Cuddlehorrors.

Decided to actually play instead of mod today. Embarked on a site I knew had an aquifer, figuring I could either find a way around it or dig through it. I did eventually get through it with a two-layer aquifer plug, but the first such plug I fucked up, leaving a bigass hole in the ground I turned into a refuse stockpile. Three humans drowned while trying to do this, including one of the miners, whose corpse could not be recovered because she is now part of the plug.

After finally breaching the aquifer and beginning work in the stone below, I had the brilliant idea to dig into the layer directly underneath it, which resulted in flooding the entire area. So I get that patched up before it's too late and now I need to drain it into the caverns.

My humans decided to start work down there again before it was totally drained. A baby almost wound up as a snack for the cavern critters.

I've been trying to use more minecarts in my fort. Many injuries but no casualties yet. Also, 37500th post get.

Some insane migrants from my last fort showed up. So that was fun... I locked them outside until they died.

One of my dwarves got spontaneously promoted to Baroness of Something-or-Other as she was the rightful heir.

We have 18 dwarves.

She is going to be VERY unhappy with her quarters for the next year or so XD

Well, when a berserk dwarf shows up, you don't let them in.

And I don't have any sources of zombies handy. I have a volcano...

I tried an embark on a world where all (or most of) the dwarves were extinct, so almost immediately upon arrival a random dwarf claims baron, and then the expedition leader snatched the title away, so the ex-baron snatched up the 'expedition leader' title :> Its tough starting out when one dwarf is demanding 50 pieces of furniture and a bedroom without plants growing through the floor ;)

Wouldn't hurt if it were changed so that no-one can claim the baron/king position until the fort value reaches a certain point (something more than 0 would be good, haha..)

In my current fort my mortal enemy is the dreaded Kea Invasion.. Seems like as soon as I clear them out a new squad shows up.. And me and the trees (the trees and I) are engaged in a fierce battle of wills, their demand is to grow while mine is to STAY AWAY FROM MY FORT WALLS. Note: building a 3-tile wide wood-floor barrier outside the walls isn't enough.. At least 5-wide, if not 7-wide.. I would use dirt roads but they're pretty hideous..

If you're looking for a mega-project, you can dig out 1z around your fort out to 5 or 7 tiles into a moat and fill it with lava.  It's pretty and keeps the trees at bay, just make sure you have at least 1z of thickness under the moat.

If you dont' have the thickness... then it sounds like it's time to cast some obsidian  ;).

This will provide plenty of centralized stockpile area so I can designate certain stockpiles to be in certain locations (food, stone, clothes, etc).  What do you guys think?
