spike traps can only be triggered remotely using a pressure plate or lever, SO there really should be any worry about friendly fire.

Or by falling onto them, but I've never had luck with that. They always consistently miss.

I will have spike traps in that area and i will probably have a second entrance which will be my main trading post which would be easily covered up to stop invaders from getting through.

A person underwent a strange mood and made the most useless item ever forged by anybody: An adamantine war hammer.
Seriously, one made of copper would fare better.
EDIT: However, the thing is worth 716,400 dorfbucks.
I can't tell if my attempt at making another Planepacked influenced this or not. It, despite all the decorative crap on it, still weighs almost nothing, making it useless. I'll just put it in a trap to please the King.

Lost another fort to zombie elk.... This makes 5 attempts

New fort is coming along nicely, bauxite walls with small towers being finished up. Lost my two swords dorfs trying to save migrants from elk... again. In retrospect is wasn't worth it. They killed two with ease and I was like, well this is gonna be a breeze. They got full iron armor and masterwork swords. They are fairly well skilled....

Siege happened right as the human traders made their way inside our base.
PREPARE THE MILITARY!
EDIT: That was absurdly quick.
The three soldiers got in there and tore them to shreds. A few survived and managed to flee, but we killed so many of them I bet they will send an even larger siege.

Give it to the Hammerer! No more lethal hammerings!

In one fort I made (long lost now, and I can't remember the details) I had two "branches" of military, the militia and the fortress guard. The captain of the guard hated the militia commander for whatever reason and the two branches were geared up respectively. The militia had spears, and the guard used hammers. Much fun was had, designing a fortress around this entirely imaginary conflict.

Anyway, long story short, when I discovered candy, both sides had "ceremonial" squads geared up with the beautiful bluemetal. Guess who became the most useless hammerdwarf of all time? :P

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

The junglers have killed wolves and dingos, they have converted them into pretty badass bone helms and leather robes that they have adorned before the first wave of migrants. Although as they arrived they witnessed the first fortess murder.  Anybody ever succeeded at nude fortress?

A bone carver kills a miner for no reason and then reports the crime to the capt. of guard, who is the bone carver's wife.

apparently demons are immune to dragon fire, so I'm gonna build dragon powered flamethrower to decorate the top of my fort.
