The kid who just grew into an adult just married someone.
...what

At least the one they married wasn't THAT old. Only a few years older.

EDIT: Right afterward, the Countess had a child.
Great, MORE noble spawn.
EDIT2: Getting bored with the boring old Native Gold in the first two caverns, I dug into the third one...
...and immediately struck cotton candy. Now I have a good quantity of the stuff and plan to drain out the water from the lake to get EVEN MORE.
By the way, what's the record for fastest finding of cotton candy (and surviving)?

I don't remember where I had seen it, but a guy embarked on a area where the magma sea was just 30 or 20 layers from the surface, he discovered this before the first caravan reached the fortress...
Good luck searching his post!

Wow.
That's impressive.
I found it on my third year.

I forgot that I read about that.
Anything from DF2012?
I'm sure 3 years isn't the record, but then again, I wasn't bothering to look (at all).
The best part?
THERE IS NO LAVA NEAR THIS VEIN.
Only water.
Time to drain the pool into a colossal underground area.
Underground lakes are finite, right?

EDIT: If I am not mistaken, doesn't tunneling through veins of cotton candy eventually get risky due to air pockets?

Don't forget that you can use the dwarven sixth sense (The beard sense) to know where are the pockets, but many players (me included) think of this as cheating.

I use DFhack for very few purposes. That is one of them.
The others are automatically dumping stuff, placing magma, and finding out what the strange mood is about.

You can also detect pockets by making zones in the spire, if they get get pit or pond (or anything) able, they are pockets.

Just lost seven dwarves to a pair of goblin ambush squads - the members of which then blundered into cage traps, save for one who left and two who were killed. I'm currently constructing an execution tower to get the most leather I can out of them. You try and kill my dwarves, I'll use your skin to make them clothing.

The sweet goblin stench wafting off of their fresh clothes brings many dwarves to excitement.

Say, we have discovered the great magma sea deep in the earth (-5 z-levels). 'The Doors of Gladness' is a humble, yet blossoming fortress. We have arrived at a complication, because the main residencies of this fortress is 100 z-levels above the magma sea. Would anyone share on how best to combat the large distance to travel for my tiresome dwarves?

Darn it, DF crashed and I lost my progress.
I saved before I dug too much cotton candy but I lost a lot of industry and such.
Ah well.
Time to save moar.

Only if they don't connect to the map edge.
