Alright, now that I'm at my computer I can do a proper report on my Masterwork fort.
Okbuddustik, "Doomedboar," 17th Limestone, 134Population: 241 Beards. 164 Adults, 54 Children, 23 BabiesThe orcs are squatting on our lands. One mounted squad to the West, one footsoldier squad to the South, and a group of Giant Blight Bats to the North. Oh, and one nervous Scout Cutta standing still in a hallway full of traps. He and his squad stupidly ran into our backdoor. Most were chopped apart by the weapons, some fell into cages, and a foolish recruit got herself killed by that very Cutta.
Now he stands, a gauntlet of weapons on one side, even more cages on the other. I sent my recently Enlightened macelord, Thabum, to whoop that ass.. The mounted squad includes their strange, unnamed "Deity."
They just sort of sit there. I'm going to have to entice them with a friendless Peasant or something..
To take care of these sieges in a more timely manner, I am going to reserve a layer for security tunnels leading to bunkers around the map. Too many enemies show up and sit there, so I'm going to have to bring the fight to them. Having a squad of Enlightened beards will burst forth from below to slaughter those who oppose us. And there are a lot of those who oppose us indeed..
For 241 dwarves, I don't think my food and booze stocks are doing great. A glance through Therapist shows a lot of people complaining of sobriety. I really need to learn how to farm. Also on my list is to learn autolabor and other useful things in DFhack. We have 243 drinks, 455 meat, 171 plants, and 937 seeds. Perhaps a grand farming complex is in order. Clothes are also becoming an issue, many are wearing rotten rags and I'm pretty sure I have plenty of fresh outfits. I'll have to fix that.
Still having trouble with my Shaft of Enlightenment. I can't get the subjects to stand on the hatch. A Station order gets them
close. Putting a door in the small hallway didn't help. Here's a visual aid:
1. is the hatch itself, where I want the subject to stand, and the door I put to try to force them into the "room."
2. is the former lever hallway for the Shaft. I walled it up and moved the lever to 4. to stop subjects from stationing there.
3. is the stairway back up from the Shaft. Subjects stand here way too much as well.
Any advice on how to force a dwarf onto that hatch?
EDIT: So, while I was setting up a mass of bedrooms to be dug and trying to figure out my military problems, the mounted orc squad led by the jackal devil found a way in. I noticed some leopards running around outside the pen. Checking in, I saw the squad had broken down the bars I set up to keep them out and ripped through most of my animals. I rallied the troops, redesigned the Red Alert burrow real quick, and forbid everything in the area. Still not working, as farmers and peasants keep rushing into the fight for who knows what items. Still, the fighters that matter showed up in time to beat back the opposition. Thabum the Macelord even ended up killing the "Deity," who happened to be that jackal devil and the head of the orc civilization.
So, now I just need to mop up the orcs still trapped inside (we raised a bridge to not let the devil escape) and victory is ours!
