Yay! Fuzzy widdle fwiends!

Uhh... Erm... I mean...

That happens occasionally. Just be thankful they are friendly. There have been reports in the past that these guys will willingly fight to the death for you, even if it means fighting other kobolds. Unlike goblins, who will turn against you as soon as an outsider goblin visits your fort and reminds them that they hate you. Plus you can take all the loot that they've stolen over the years, assuming they managed to steal anything in world-gen.

Man, I embarked on one of these once. Totally committed genocide.

There are GCS webs in the cavern. I'm not going down there again for a while. And unfortunately I don't have a brook to dump down the hole to their place or I'd be drowning them for the fun of it.

Edit: Oops, I breached an aquifer into their space. WHOOPSIEEEEEE -cackle-

Dang, it would be cool to have kobold allies!

I embarked to a volcano for the purpose of doing a hermit game with my original seven, as well as flooding the outside world with magma by cracking the lip of the volcano. (Not sure the flow rate will actually exceed the evaporation rate, but I have other options if this doesn't work out.)

I just found out, however, that every single one of my starting seven is female.

I don't know what or why or how. I just know that I'm confused.

A suggestion: take the first migrant male, stick him in a cage, and kill off the rest.  Then, equip all your wimmens with xbows, and voila!  Fort Amazon.

Yeah, an amazonian fort sounds like a fun idea. Now the trick is to let only one dwarf in...

I can do selective breeding. This will be fun.

A dwarf in a cage won't last long. Dwarfs have a problem with the concept of caged citizens and won't properly feed/water them. A single male won't make it viable in the very long term, either. Only married dwarfs will breed and they're strictly monogamous. You could get one married couple, but they'd only produce one crop of children, who wouldn't breed among themselves.

The details will need some work, but an Amazon Fort sounds like a neat thing.

Galena 315

Well , today we defeated the depths through shear force of will and numbers... The foray resulted in the deaths of around 30 axedorfs and 20 Markswdorfs. The commander shouldn't have ordered that fateful charge, but now he's dead... along with most of his men.

Currently, all the coffins are filled and memorial is being constructed in the tube, eventually we will haul all their corpses back from whence they came, but now is a time for grieving. Such marks the decline of our fortress, much like Tin Fingers of the Red Hand.

-Diary of an unknown soldier
-Fate of the Salt Mine of the Stilled Hames
-Imperial Archives of Fath Thum

Archivist Comment: Tin Fingers fell not to siege or internal strife, but suffered a more prolonged decline. The cause of this is unknown, but trade records suggest that citizens ceased migrating to the site in the year 305. Eventually the fortress was abandoned...

A bit earlier, a hauler went into a fey mood and claimed a leatherworking shop. After the first completeon of artifact, a right mitten, and the fact that it was only a few days into moonstone, I tried to savescum in an attempt to get a different one, and each of the two or three savescums, it was a right mitten and then I went 'Fine, a right mitten it is.'

Anyways, lashdye is doing well in its sixth year. I've had several sieges in the past year or two, which strained the forts workload and made me realize that I need to redesign the entrance. Inspired in part by the forts name, I've started collecting iron whips so that I can start up a squad of lashers.

Also, last year, the human caravan took so long to leave that the dwarven caravan collided with them at the depot and I was forced to deconstruct the depot then to get them to leave. This year though I seized a whip (and also dumped two whips from the guards) to force them to leave early. However, when they still hadn't completly packed yet and it was well into autmn, I had to deconstruct the depot (again). :P

Took a break from forts for a while (again) and started up a new embark in a savage desert, by a necro tower and my civ is at war with goblins. Decided I would make an above ground fort, where most everyone lives and works on or near the surface. Digging is allowed, for various reasons (ore, caverns, etc) but I'm going to try to keep everyone topside. Also not using bridges to seal off vital areas, and minimal traps.

Should be fun!

so...

kobolds...

I'm jealous.
I embarked on a Kobold Cave, they were friendly, but the Kobold Caves, at the bottom regions, always seem to get split in half by the map.
There weren't that many, so I am jealous, and they actually did quite well against an FB that showed up right inside their region (and by that, I mean their lowest section, where they keep the goodies)

Usually, they end up friendly. If they aren't, and are armed, Kobolds end up being pretty dangerous.
My recent fort had the problem, because despite orders to take the dagger away from a prisoner kobold thief, they wouldn't, which resulted in my lead lasher, being counter-attack killed, with the silver dagger.
I have ordered it to be dumped, ordered it to be melted, nothing.

That happens occasionally. Just be thankful they are friendly. There have been reports in the past that these guys will willingly fight to the death for you, even if it means fighting other kobolds.

Dang, it would be cool to have kobold allies!
They aren't allies, so much as cute little guys just pacing back and forth.
They rarely move.
They don't trade with you.
They just sit there, and are alright if you build stuff near them, or kill a couple of them, or take their stuff.

However, with the FB, they will fight it, and I've had Kobolds in my forts (I modded them so that they can be embarked with), they will attack intruders.

I like to make apartment-like ghettos for my kobolds.
I also modded them to dive-hunt for vermin, like the falcons.
I think the idea of them diving to grab a cockroach for food is funny, don't you?

And thus, "The running of the goblins" became an annual tradition and the first dwarven contraceptive.
There are no moghoppers. We have always been allies of Oceania, and at war with Eastasia.

Dumb question, perhaps, but had you ordered it to be claimed as well?
