Merchants are melting as they walk over the bridge! One even fell through the bridge somehow and went straight to the SMR, and now I'm getting massive amounts of "Item inaccessible" spam!

Edit: Everything finally melted/was destroyed by SMR, so no more spam.

My second-year fort is just hitting its stride, but weaponsmith Èzum Mebzuthastesh has just decided that we're ready for anything.

She became possessed, grabbed a single piece of imported steel (I have no coal, and haven't found flux yet) and created Greeddrenched the Ripe Dominion, a large, serrated steel disc worth 489,600☼.

If there's a better way to signal the goblins that this greed-drenched dominion is ripe for the picking, I don't know what it is.

I took a look at legends in one of my worlds. Tons of giants, titans, megabeasts (i don't know how high i set the numbers, evidently it was "pretty high"). A fun thing was an escaped demon who actually died in world gen. It was "fed to beasts" by some untitled elf as the fallout of the demon's dark fortrees getting overrun. Those must be some pretty tough beasts.

Then, i just browsed through normal civ peoples, checking those with titles, and quickly ran into titled people with pages worth of "devoured an [animal] of [civ]". It could all be traced back to a human trying to prolong his life at any cost, and getting his wish fulfilled by a were-horse curse. He quickly racked up a nice long kill list and spread the curse around a bit. His "foals" also produced titled personages and spread the curse even further. I guess if i'd ran worldgen much longer, half the place would have been were-horse lairs.

My local crazy vampire was, alas, only listed with four notable kills, all in the fort, and maybe 200 back home.

EDIT: a steel disc? Wow, spiffy. It'd make a terrifying addition to a frontline weapon trap, _or_ a completely ridiculous addition to a room. Large serrated discs are, i think, _the_ most expensive items before quality/material are calculated (along with giant spiked balls). I once got a platinum serrated disc as a mood, which was even more pricey; and it would have been a fair bit better than a silver or even copper one, i think.

looking solely at the shear values, which determine damage for discs, platinum is actually slightly inferior to copper while superior to silver.

the clean-up from my last siege has finally been complete. the meat shield dwarven guards will be dearly missed.

i realized there is a blind spot in my fortications. i decided to fix that by plating weapon traps in those blind spots.

there's still a lot of prisoners left over from the previous siege. to eradicate them, i decided to start a new group of marksdwarves, all with zero exp. the execution drop is working fine. goblins always break their bones, which means free shots and no retaliation.

It appears the second seat of the Granitebulwark militia's 1st squad is cursed, as all the dwarves who've held the posting have died.

So far we've had a death by goblin, one pushed in by FB skull, and now head smashed in by a trog hammerman.

Speaking of trogs, they beat down (quite literally as they were all hammermen and macemen) three forgotten beasts, one of which claimed to be someone's deity.Apparently all the killing blows were dealt by a particularly vicious trog hammerlord that earned the title of Gusshchel. Dunno what the name translates to as Col. Asmel cut him apart before I got the chance.

Again, speaking of which, Asmel and Tarem held off the bulk of a sudden onrush of the bastards when we breached the second caverns looking for lost relics and treasures (the presence of various ruin veins implying there were such things to be had upon the breach) where they discovered the remains of one meaty forgotten beast and Gusshchel's band. In the initial attack, a relatively inexperienced bladesdorf by the name of Bashom Inchtortures (who earned the title of  The Vermilion Humility in the Dark Strangler attack) was killed, a hammertrog smashing her head with a counterstrike and gaining the title of Lilardegel. This one I'll have to wait for the memorial to look up.

A farmhand was also injured, as he had come down to recover a Nith's corpse I had marked for dumping. Why was because many of the Nith seemed to have a fondness for Tarem and as such followed him down to the battle, resulting in the deaths of two of them. He had his crossbow handy and shot his attacker, chipping a leg bone but the trog managed to break his arm and only blind luck had it pass out before it killed him, as he passed out almost immediately. Thankfully the miners had just finished digging a stairwell below the battle and one rescued the poor sod before the next wave of attacks hit, some of them making it past Asmel and Tarem. Another mercy was the presence of the other bladesdorf squad who rushed into position and managed to hold the bastards off, killing the lot that slipped by in a bloody display of what even inexperienced (mostly) and desperate dwarves can do. One was only a novice and even managed to best a hammerlord.

Due to the obvious preference of attack from here, I've posted a dragon raptor to stand vigil. Troglodytes are small, fragile creatures in comparison and while they were able to surround the forgotten beast and best it by sheer numbers (many dying in the process,) they'll be forced into a bottleneck against the raptor.

Hopefully the four deaths won't deter immigration, as along with the giant mole killings and Bashnom's death in battle, the melancholy gemworker Atir died of thirst in the main dining area. Turns out I didn't have a jeweler's workshop set up and he went nutty in his room. As he served as manager for the fort's so far short life, he has since been replaced by a young dwarf by the name of Obok.

Also my noble has some kind of extreme cabinet fixation, as most of my granite has now gone from building defenses to making the damned things.

So this has been an interesting second year for my most recent fort, Scourgespears. It started out with my newly appointed mayor deciding to mandate the production of leather-padded gloves (masterwork mod, if you're curious) twice and then banning the export of said leather-padded gloves. First mandate of this fort, it could have been far worse.

Later in the year, for one reason or another, my brewers decided to up and stop brewing drinks. There was absolutely no discernable reason why. We have plenty of plants (17 plump helmets, 27 muck roots) and plenty enough barrels and pots. I only noticed this when my dwarves were cancelling "Give Water" jobs since there was no water. I tried to build a well as fast as possible, but it didn't go up quite fast enough and 10 or so of my dwarves ended up dying of dehydration in the middle of the meeting hall. Fantastic.

Understandably, the rest of my dwarves were not particularly happy with this turn of events and started tantruming. Not that I blame them, but they only made the entire thing worse. Most of the injured dwarves have nothing more than bruises, but two of them (so far) have fractures. One of them only has a fractured foot (lucky for him) but the other has a slight bit more of a problem than that.

One of the woodcutters walked up to him and smashed his fist through the poor thing's face. The skin wasn't broken but it fractured his skull. He keeps alternating between unconsciousness and being in such extreme pain that he's stunned.

It's early autumn and I have absolutely no idea how I'm going to survive the winter.

A few seconds after typing this up another dwarf came up to him and broke his neck. He's still not dead. If he survives this he's going straight into my military.

Edit: He's alive, healing, and he's just walking around in extreme pain with a broken neck and skull. He's casually grabbing a bite to eat at the speed of any other normal dwarf right now.

Edit 2: He's completely unharmed except for a broken skull and neck. I'd give him something to fight with but my militia commander has the only weapon in the fort. I'll be sure to get something for him if I make it through to the caravan, though.

Yeah, shoved 13 salt shakers down it's throat while sticking an umbrella into a crack in the sidewalk under a full moon.

I underestimated my military. Out of the 23, several of which were conscripted in a rush, only one survived a single squad of goblins.

Queue everyone going insane and/or starting fights. Most of them were on the bridge because they were grabbing the crap left behind from the fighting.

well either I missed the second caverns or I just got incredibly lucky because I found the great magma sea, two lava pools, and a Curious Structure on level -64.

oh also this is a bit odd, my seasons seem to be abnormal this game. I'm embarked fairly close to what we've established as the equator and I've got dry season and wet season as well as summer arriving "on the calendar". I haven't embarked in a location like this before so I dunno if that's what usually happens or what.
