Can't tell if my vamp fix is working yet. Yesterday, McVamp was "Needs alcohol ... and is starting to work slowly due to its scarcity", so I gave him a bloodpack. I didn't see him go to the booze stockpile yet, but when I started the game today he is only "Needs alcohol ...".

We survived a seige during the test. I sealed the vamp in a sealing area (via station command), but somehow 4 goblins got in with him before the seal closed. Funny thing is, McVamp is also an accomplished Speardwarf/Dodger, and had a steel spear as his weapon. Bad day for those 4 axegobs... The migrant militia made a fine meat shield for the noble AxeLords. Even though one lord got stuck in NobleFort, and another went to sleep before the battle, the remaining 2 lords were able to fight their way up the MigrantFort Entrance Ramp through squads of Axes/Swords/Spears and then clean out the other Axes trying to reach McVamp.

Special mention goes out to Hikari, the mighty migrant militia captain who last year pummeled two goblins with her bare fists. When he escorted the lords into battle, he meat-shielded very well before receiving a broken finger and bailing. If he survives the imminent ghetto riot, and makes it out of that hospital, then I will promote him to nobility.

bad news, the general got away. i think if you get the marksdwaves ready after they've gotten to the walls, more goblins die.

good news, i finally got rid of that flame forgotten beast. the original path wasn't crossbow friendly, so i dug an alternate path towards it. downed it with one shot.

oddly, the siege tag is still there even after all of the goblins left. i'm assuming this is due to a hidden ambush somewhere, so i'll be extra vigilant. maybe send my military to do some scouting before i relax.

You may be stuck in perma-seige. I lost one of my favorite saves to a bug (some fire and incinerated goblins were involved; seige tag never lifted)

A tame giant louse just one-shotted a berserking potash maker with a simple push. Didn't even interrupt the tower construction. I guess that's just a potash maker proving his worth.

A giant scorpion weaponized cave crocodile meat and used it to bash in the head of a caravan guard.
Omethu's rampage was only stopped when another guard bashed the scorpion's head in with only his crossbow

Hehe, you need to post this in the "I badly draw your reports!" Thread.

I lost a couple hours work in my fort due to a crash, but it was worth it in the end. Soon after picking up from my last save, the five-year-old daughter of my chief medical dwarf murdered the outpost liaison by:

Two additional migrant waves at Relicblaze (no fires, we just get snow, and more snow!)

Population at 119 with 100 adult dwarves and a swarm of baby dwarves.  Among the notable arrivals were a "industrialist" (worker dwarf with master ratings in 4-5 different skills)  The Weaver and Clothier is pretty common, but a Legendary Glassmaker is an improvement on the current best in the fortress.  The new arrival is also a Legendary Miner as well.  The military got four marksdwarves with basic training (Novice) that were not previous fortress veterans, but also got three more expert marksdwarves already cross-trained with hammer and short sword in addition to armor and shield use training.

That gives the fort two veteran squads; 6 melee (2 axe, 2 hammer, 2 morningstar) and 5 marksdwarves.  The large numbers of idling dwarves will now be placed into squads for basic training as either melee or marksdwarves.  The novice marksdwarves will be assessed for any teacher ability and then used to command squads or banded together as a support squad for the elite units.

The circle of additional archery bunkers are almost complete and the underground tunnels are now being used for most access so that intruders now get to pass multiple sets of guard animals and a trap zone overlooked by an archery post in order to enter the fortress.  The outer posts will get limited patrols and used to provide some protection for expected visitors.

The outer ditch is now getting a wall as the next project simply to provide a degree of protection to the area right around the keep.  Also something to do with the accumulation of stone that has built up.

Looking into snow removal since I'm not sure whether it affects dwarves health if they end up standing in it for extended periods of time.  It's definitely not melting even when the area is roofed over at a later point.

On the social front the dining hall is getting a mild expansion to fit in more tables.  Stone has been smoothed and the better trained engravers will be turned loose to do decorations shortly.  An area for noble quarters has already been selected.  The mayor's office was fitted out just in time for one to be elected.  And a capt of the guard was appointed as well - he'll get half of the elite marksdwarves at some point once the military organization is finalized.  Beyond that the adults are somehow squeezing into the sixty some rooms, though a few officers have both an office bedroom and a residence area bedroom.

Few moods recently.  First two both produced coffins.  Then a toy item.  Got a pig iron gauntlet too, but that was a possession and thus no legendary armorer yet.  :(

Given population and last few trading sessions the first siege should occur in the next two seasons.  But that is usually a small one and the fort should be able to handle it.  A few more iron shipments and the elite troops should be fully equipped in steel.

Kindlehelms has seen more death in the last year than all of its history. Two recruits fell to an acid throwing spellcaster. A mother and child burned to death breaching the magma sea (which I thought I had handled, turns out a gabbro door will burn away when open) Mostly though, it's the damned vampire(s). I'm not sure who, or how many, but I've lost somewhere around 8 good dwarves to these blood suckers.

However, sieges and ambushes continue to be repelled. Kosoth, the gem great axe wielding madman continues to wreck house on any hostiles. We might even have a squad of decent marksdwarves if I could figure out how to get them to reload. They run out of ammo and just stand there...

While digging the magma forge area, my dwarves were twice struck with an odd transformation. (I'm on masterwork) While digging a dwarf will be turned into a "dwarf staring at the shifting ore" or something close to that. Some weird stuff happens and they change back. Shortly afterward one or two metalwraiths spring from that spot.

A grand restructuring of the fort will commence once I can find a less tedious way of digging ~7 similar layers worth of workshops and living space. I intend to have sunlight from the surface and waterfalls all the way through.

Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow dwarf is either a fool or a coward. Whoever can not take care of themself without that law is both. For a wounded dwarf shall say to his assailant, "If I live, I will kill you. If I die, you are forgiven." Such is the rule of honor.

Sounds like you forgot to use a magma-safe mechanism. Otherwise, it would have to be be a masterwork thing.

Edit: While I'm here, a little update on Heartmines. Edzul, a lone, unarmored hunter happened to be chasing down a dingo when a Vile Force of Darkness arrived and a goblin crossbow squad spawned in front of him. I though he was a goner for sure, but he routed the entire squad by shooting the leader in the legs. The goblins fled without firing a single shot.

Katakamas continues to move forward, although most of our efforts are currently focused on the reorganizing of the military and making sure the soliders are actually wearing their armor. With 6 or so Legendary fighters/teachers they are being consolidated into slightly larger squards. We have also finally started training our marksdwarfs with live targets, something that is sorely needed after last years loss of 3 archers who decided to stand on the wrong side of the fortifications during a Seige. Even with the minor architectural issues that may have cause this, the Mason's refuse to accept any fault.

We have had one setback, although thankfully no one died because of it, the still in construction pumpstack down to the cavern's to get water was deconstructed. Someone apparently though removing the anchoring gear would be a good idea, the Captain of the Guard is till trying to figure it out. It's year 5 and we still don't have a proper well in the Hospital or Main Hall because of this, although the booze supply has never had any problems staying full, and the upper level "temporary" well only needs filling on rare occasion.

The mechanics don't seem to want to talk about how they are going to actually finish the stack though. The last time anyone scouted the caverns there were 4 FBs down there, most with webs. One had wings and was dealt with on the surface, as it was apparently made of water, but the others linger out of sight just waiting for our dwarves to take a peek...

This was just supposed to be a featureless quarry... And then this happened. I don't... How did this even poof into my head? WHY did it poof into my head when I need building materials? I know this is a tame thing for this place but I'm still trying to figure out what part of me thought this was a good idea when all I wanted to do was dig out a bunch of stone for building other stuff.

While verifying something for the wiki, a hunt/combat report popped up shortly after receiving my first migrants. Oh, oops, i had forgotten to check them for hunters (had more than enough fisherdwarfs anyway): "The architect Urist McCrazy is hunting.
The elephant is fighting."

Errm...
I switched off the hunting labour and waited for how it'd turn out. She two-shotted the beast with a steel bolt through the brain. About 1/3 of the fort's wealth was represented by a single prepared meal stack and we broke in our soapery by making elephant soap. We also made rock nut soap and mead before the first year was out and produced a wax bracelet on the first of granite of the next year.

And the test confirmed what i remembered: royal jelly and honey cannot be 'eaten as is' - they're liquid foods only edible when processed (cooked), forbidding all other food causes the dwarfs to spam the message line with 'cancels give food: no food available' and ignoring the five royal jelly and three honey freely available.

Very cool design!  What are you going to use it for?

Not precisely "my" fort, as I've only just moved in. I don't like the look of the guy next door.
