"The Baconing" sounds like the Armageddon of a race of pig-men.
Close to it. Even now some of the weak pigs have escaped to the far flung reaches of the Fortress. Some hide in abandoned mines or project sites, hiding with their piglets. No matter, they all end up in the kennels or the butcher's workshops in the end.

FirstFires is coming along quite nicely. Our military is basically unbeatable (Just watch, my post will be about the end of my fortress) We've killed many goblins, a hydra, and a titan. Our war dogs are very many and we have about 120+ dwarves and 100 animals. So far no FPS drop. adamintine has been found but with no skill thread extractors we can't really use it.

A Shelled Chrysoberyl Gem Beast that spits gas took up residence in one of Quakeswallowed's tombs some years ago.
Now I've got 20+ mail shirts, assorted weapons and goblinite, and 40+ migrants in the Migrant Fort.
Still in preparation phase. I'll start taking over-under bets once things are closer to execution.

EDIT: And the correct bet is that the house wins.
Even before we could attack the beast, the Migrant Fort has started it's 3rd tantrum spiral.
Thankfully, one of the hooligans stopped to briefly trade with the humans. Once he finished, then he ran off to beat face.
The Noble Fort knows it's "that" time of year again. I'll have to remember to edit the raws and add "Detroit" at a later point.

Regenned an older world, one I posted about a few months ago. On top of a volcano, in the middle of a forest, next to a small river. Very flat, slight rise to the northern bit, almost picturesque.

Had an epic tantrum spiral resulting from a dead kid who was struck by a XXPig Tail SockXX in the Coinstar training room and killed, ended with 95% of the fort dead and a single speardwarf survivor who had to put down many dozens of berserkers and deal with the violent ghosts by himself. Still have the saves floating around. Oh, and a necro siege was just outside the gates, above the magma-flooded, volcano fed trade depot.

Fun fort.

Anyways, the new place has been set up, forgot to bring magma safe stones so we are making do with charcoal for now, and I'm having trouble coming up with a creative project to build into this place. Something needlessly complex, stretching myself to the limits of patience, building something truly incredible out of the bare rock below.

Only problem is, I have no idea where to start. The basic fort is set up, game on pause, and (d)ig designations are awaiting placement... but I seem to have hit a roadblock.

Relicshield, pop. 120, Summer of 301 (Year 50)

The fort celebrated its 5th decade since settlement.  The merged melee and ranged squads have continued to thwart the goblins at every turn.  The trade tunnels had new checkpoints installed at all 12 entrances, allowing human merchants to approach immediately without any wagons, while giving dwarven wagons full access with the flip of a single switch.

Romance has been slow to develop, especially among Relicshield's 1st generation of native born dwarves.  Vacation suites are being planned to help nudge more couples towards marriage and hopefully a 2nd generation of native children.

My current (and first) fort, named "Fishmine", has recently gotten to the stage where my dwarves have a baron.  I've been trying so far to build a suitable tomb for the baron when the liason/diplomat guy from the dwarven civilization goes ahead and tells me "Guess what?  You're the new capital!  Guess who the king is?  Adil Abelurmin, the Vampire Queen of the Dwarves.  Oh, by the way, she killed 17689 dwarves/elves/humans.  Thanks for taking her out of here."

So not only do I need to start digging out fancy rooms for the new queen. she's also an undead immortal monster that I will have to allow to do whatever she pleases.  (Otherwise I'd get even more FUN than I have already trying to wrap my brain over this noble.)  This is the first time anything of this magnitude ever happened to my fort, which has never seen sieges, goblins, enemies, and is in the middle of nowhere.  Of course I'd get a hugely battlescarred queen when no dwarf at my fort has ever been injured.  And of course I'd get my first vampire in the form of the nation's sole leader.  What should I expect?  What do I even do with vampire queens?  How will I please her before she rips everyone's head off in a tantrum?  She seems perfectly capable of it.  She's killed enough to destroy civilizations.  Are all kings/queens super dangerous creatures or did I get something uncommon?

My pc is nothing special, but I've followed the FPS advice from the wiki.  Probably the biggest FPS savers for me have been the 3x3 embark, walling off old passages, and atom-smashing excess items with a vengeance :D.  My FPS ranges from 60 after a big fight to 90+ when everything is chill.

Heh, thank you!  I didn't expect to turn into the capital, but I am a metropolis (275 dwarf population and no clue what any of them are doing at any time).  Still, the jump was really sudden.  Until this dwarf year the most I've had was a mayor.  All of a sudden I'm the dwarven hotspot ("Let's go live in the country~" -Adil) and it's not even a normal noble.

/is still paused on her arrival and is considering what should be done

Hey, considering the queen is a vampire, should I look out for more vampires once she's settled in?  She'll probably make some, right?

Make her a dedicated lever-puller along with other vampires. If you've modded dwarf blood to have the "get thirsty" reaction, you can manage to get them to drink and not slow down after a yearly dwarven sacrifice.

Which I wanna do. Any advice on getting vampires in my worlds?

This vampire is just so cool and murderous and dictator-like that I'm going to build the rooms she wants and keep her as the supreme overlord of the dwarf world.  She doesn't even try to hide the fact she's undead nor her incredibly long kill list.  I don't have a suitable lever room for her anyway- I only have one and it's too small plus I never use it (it opens the entryhall drawbridge.)  Plus I need a source of fun for the fortress.  I haven't had anything really exciting like this yet!

Good idea. I wonder if I can hook up a lever to the cage to open it, I've never done that before.

It goes berserk while transformed though, so if I let it out, it could wipe out the fort, or be worse then the siege....
