My first successful planepacked item, thanks to slothen for the help!

I love how it has an image of itself, on itself, 39 times.  :o
Oh, and worth 272,400 dorf bucks.

Stupid crosbowgoblin ambush stuck around cage trap and harass my dwarfs. No idea how to deal with them.

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

Pushing the boundaries of planepacked science...

Isos Uvar, "the Dale of Lulls", a iron breastplate

Worth 65M dorf bucks. 5415 images in iron.   :P

I created a 3000 year old world with full history (no culling) and 200,000 events to see how many images would be unique.  Unfortunately, only 1749 images are unique, which is a bit of a shame.

@VerdantSF nice update.  You might want to check how that dwarf became a member of the goblin civ.  I'm guessing either by abduction from or occupation of a mountainhall.
Thanks!  You're right, she (I keep forgetting dwarf names are gender-neutral) was abducted at the age of 10 from a dwarven civ different from the one my fortress belongs to.

A few Giant Cave Spiders and Jabberers have been spotted, but I've been unable to trap them successfully.
Good luck!  War jabberers are one of my long-term fort goals, but I'm also curious about setting up a GCS silk farm.  Though, I'm worried about the FPS impact of non-stop web shots.

Relicshield, pop. 114, Late Summer of 283 (Year 32)

The human merchants who arrived at the fortress this year narrowly missed an elven ambush.  And what an ambush it was.  First, a group of war grizzlies emerged from the forest.  One of the beasts gave Commander Sphalerite quite a fight!  The bear's ferocious offense kept the commander off-balance far longer than any previous opponent, despite the inevitable end.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

While the last of the grizzlies were struck down, the rest of the elven forces revealed themselves.  With spear-wielding moose and camel riders, war leopards and lions, over a hundred enemies entered the fray! The battle was intense, but the dwarves remembered their training and stood their ground.  Despite numerical superiority, the odds were still solidly in the dwarves' favor.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
(Legends mode doesn't track mounts apparently, since the moose and camels aren't listed.  The true enemy count was probably over 150. Also, the elves arrived in Late Spring, but waited out of sight until the Summer.  Dastardly!)

Edem II's combat performance remains an enigma.  The weapon prowess, shield technique, and dodging ability are all there... and yet he always seems to shy away from the killing blow.  Still, he's able to engage multiple opponents and keep them occupied, so thus far, his particular quirk has mostly raised eyebrows.  Stronger objections have also been stymied due to his older sister Goden II and her solid reputation as a bloodthirsty battlemaiden.  To slander Edem II is to slander his family, and among the dwarves of Relicshield, Goden II holds the singular distinction of slaying a forgotten beast.

In the meantime, the most pressing problem for Relicshield is what to do with all of the beast carcasses left after the battle.  The fortress has had a food surplus for decades, so collection isn't a necessity, though the Mountainhome might appreciate a gift of exotic edibles if they can be preserved in time.

Pretty boring still. A forgotten beast was caught in a trap in the caverns, thanks to a conveniently placed spider web that I never noticed.

Oh, and a siege and cyclops showed up.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The right-most two images are the remnants of 4 squads of lashers and 2 squads of trolls. Everything is kind of piled up, so it's really hard to see.

The top, middle and bottom pictures on the left are the cyclops battle. Fighting the cyclops are all the melee squads, and marksdwarves up in the tower.

Still haven't suffered a single injury, and the militia is still in mostly bronze gear.

Goblin siege #1 in this fort.  Merlocks were able to sneak in before the siegers found them.  The goblins seem content to sit upon the hill across the river, despite carefully planned and baited drowning tunnel and me leaving a gate down.  Stupud leaders on a bat wont fly themselves into my adriti.  The Merlocks play about the same as the humans Ive noticed.  They bring a mix of surprising useful goods, abundent leather and a mix of above/below ground crops and meat.  And man meat.  Delicious man meat of various species, but no 'civilized' pork yet.  Maybe they leave that at home . . .

I may be biased but I think they play harder than the humans at trading, which is a plus because they end up being argueably more useful for the stuff they bring.  I may have to nerf or eliminate their trading.  A fourth caravan sucks anyhow.  Too bad I cant personalize them more.

I captured another group of dralthas, but as my dwarves were going to move the cages, a GCS showed up and proceeded to eat one of them over the course of a week (paralyze and then shake by head continuously, never offering a killing blow).  There was an epic standoff where I tried setting up closer traps without engaging it, and despite many civilians being put at risk, only the one death was had.  The spider earned a name, and then slipped off the map.  Then, another spider appeared in a different part of the caverns.  It occasionally moves around, but mostly keeps lurking about 50 tiles from where my dwarves path.  Wooden doors and chained kittens have not enticed it to visit my cage traps.

Just lost my fort of 81 to a siege, 3 forgotten beasts, and dwarven stupidity.

In the beginning, there were only a handful of reanimated elves. Combined with my lack of well trained soldiers (3 marksdwarfes only), a dumb mechanic who did not even think of connecting the drawbridge to the designated lever after half a year, and a necromancer hidden somewhere, the fortress went down fast.

At least, the necromancer was shot by the marksdwarfes' squad leader, just before he was eaten by his former wife.

The last dwarf was lost by the doomsday device he triggered. In theory, the whole fortress should be flooded with magma, except a panic room, filled with a small stockpile of booze, food and seeds. The only small design mistake was the lever, which was located outside the panic room for some reason. Also, the lever for the mechanic to pump off the magma was outside. So - even if the dwarf would have made it down there, he would have been trapped inside the danger room for eternity.

It took two platoons worth of soldiers, three cave-ins and the lives of 4 miners but I finally exterminated the rodentman/women master warrior population. In retrospect I wish I had just killed the forgotten beast myself instead of locking it down there with them which apparently trained them into master warriors but I killed them so no harm done it the end.

Expansion of the catacombs level continues unabated, with all living adult dwarves now having a personal tomb. Continued goblin ambushes remain a danger to unwary dwarves.

The dwarves of Fortressbowel have much to be thankful for, personalized graves with engraved walls is just one of them.

^Somehow that name seems appropriate for a fortress with catacombs.

My current embark is on a tundra just for the heck of it, and I just now remembered that dwarves can build things with ice. My next thought: OMG I CAN BUILD AN ICE CASTLE. THIS IS MY DREAM YOU GAIZ.

Also I finally figured out the military interface, I think. And I have two vampires. One I didn't realize until after I'd appointed her mayor. She has TEN CHILDREN and a husband and none of them are here, plus former member of a huge list of things. Also she's mayor of...The Lancer of Virginity.(?) That seems to be the name of something associated with my fortress. I don't really know what, but it's hilarious.

Relicshield, pop. 113, Spring of 284 (Year 33)

The mystery of Edem II's combat performance has finally been solved.  It was never noticed that all of the children born in Relicshield were quite a bit shorter than dwarves from the Mountainhome. Despite his initial preference for war hammers, Edem II tried out short swords and discovered that he was far more effective with them.

Sadly, soon after Edem II gained renewed respect from his brothers and sisters in arms, tragedy struck his family and the fortress at large.  His father, Edem Claspletter, a renowned carpenter and wood cutter, was caught outside during a goblin siege along with Nish the Clothier.  Relicshield lost two of its most beloved citizens, but the dwarves made sure the goblins paid most dearly.

The deaths had worked the dwarven soldiers into a fever pitch.  Woe to the next foe to assault the fortress!  Perhaps the news of Relicshield's heightened war lust made its way to the elves, who wisely returned with words of peace, rather than beasts of battle.  And so ended The Stormy Eviscerated War.
