It seems that in the face of adversity, my engravers are not to be trifled with. Two were helping with fortification construction when dark stranglers launched an assault. Two wrestlers met their end not by the hammers and axes of the five dorf militia (who was busy ruthlessly slaughtering the fleeing monkey-things from a group that lost their leader) but by this in thier combat reports.

The Engraver has become enraged! x2

It seems they didn't take to well to being kicked in the shin and bitten on the arm respectively.

One was violently pummeled to death by a dwarf with no combat training and the other was strangled to death. I have since drafted these two and given them a knuckle duster and dagger each. Brawlers armed with such tools will be the match of any strangler. Oddly that made me think Martial Artist or Brawler would be a better elite title for wrestlers...

The orcs of Masterwork continue to surprise me. Turns out a lone craftsorc can take on mithril wielding elves and survive. Interesting.

I was under the impression other than Snaga most orcs are a touch bigger than elves. Size matters, as many have learned the hard way.

Suffered an injured axedwarf to a snatcher and one is shouting things at my lumberjack from ambush so I have my others on standby while Urist the axedorf has his wounds tended to. Broken leg, but mercifully he has no nerve damage and won't need the crutch for too long. I did have to open the way to the caverns soon than i would have liked to get silk for stitches and dressing, but hey, no big deal.

True, but he was only an artisan without any form of combat experience against a speardancer!

And an elf. You doubt the might of the orc vs puny tree humper? You sir, are a heretic for thinking elves are worth a damn in melee.

I'm just kidding. Still impressive, but I gotta give it to the orc regardless unless he was fighting a bunch at once in which case DAYUM.

EDIT: Well, it appears I have a gremlin hermit living in my caverns. He must die, as I want his preserved meat and leather. And y'know, having him shooting at my weaver while he gathers medical supplies is bad too.

I just discovered that setting a caste's frequency to 0 apparently doesn't prevent that caste from being born in your fort.  I just had a pony give birth to a griffon.  ???  Nearest I can tell, a caste frequency of 0 is treated as 1 by the game.  Time to explain in my next community fort update how that happened.

Also, babies wandering down alone in the mines only to get abducted suck.  I still don't know how she was down there without her mother, since she was less than a year old and should have still been in the leech phase.  I never got any announcement about seeing the snatcher though, so she must have been alone.  All I got was the message that a snatcher had made off with her.  :(

R. Udib Titans Avuzlosis got his title 'Titans' from scoring the killing blow on Zotir Junglepacked the mash Titan, a giant Tick that launched its webs at my Fortress.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Three years later he rushes at the head of over 40 soldier Dwarves to fight Caraca Straplobster the Pack of Berries, a desert Titan and a giant Beetle with deadly spittle [Scarab Titan :D].

Now he's the first person to earn the title Titansmith, awarded for killing two Titans. Or really, killing one with your bear hands is enough.

A flying Titan dead and I never had to find out what its syndromes did. VICTORLY IN SILENTTHUNDERS

He managed to incapacitate one elf and then evade the mithril arrows of the others as he fled. If he hadn't run into them, they would have made it into my main caverns and killed my children.

He has bear hands?  :o

*Bare hands. Although in retrospect, he probably deserves bearhands as a title too.

As it turns out, if you build your entire fortress on a floating island held up by toothpicks, then remove said toothpicks, it can will result in many fatalities.

I.E. In my case, 87 fatalities, and instant loss of fortress. Gravity is my only true enemy.

It killed the cats, at least.

Relicshield, 21st Hematite, Early Summer of 260

Phyllite II, the four year old son of Duke Phyllite & Duchess Cinnabar, ran right past the guards stationed at the southwest trade tunnel entrance.  A bit of panic ensued as the headstrong child headed off to parts unknown.  However, he suddenly appeared on top of the half-built courtyard roof, revealing a single dirt ramp that had been overlooked :oFor over a year, there had been a secret path into the fort that no one knew about!  Pending punishment turned quickly to praise, with plans for Phyllite II's very own statue garden in the works.

This fort has just the right amount of evil.  undead spawns and a cloud that zombifies.
So what's worse?  an undead giant kea or a vile ash  giant kea zombie?
