This is clearly a reference, but to what I know not or only have a vague idea of what. And who the hell is Carl?

Because a further reference is always more helpful than sourcing the reference.

Because giving the source instead of clues to references does not the prize easy make.

One Dwarf child fell down a ramp, head cracked open. One Dwarf child attacked by undead Kakapo, nearest military Dwarves did not arrive in time before she bled to death.

And thus the only 5 of the firstborn remain and the Likot Honestbronze line is dead, a tragedy to surmise a tragedy's end in Silentthunders.

There's a vampire somewhere in Lornicat now.  Who it is, I have no idea, but it got my weaver...

God damnit, I read that in Ed's voice...

You're welcome!  :P

Need to figure out how to flush the little bloodsucker out somehow...

Long stations without food, lock up without food, drowning chamber test, or undead gauntlet.

Since vamps drink water, eat food, sleep, or breathe a long patrol or locking them in rooms works.  the real dwarves do get hungry.

since they don't breathe a drowning trap works.

Since they are dead themselves undead will ignore them.

They also 'look' their age and can have huge membership lists in their thoughts and prefs.  Usually they will have no family in-fort.

I also hear sun berries to the head work :P

Just put this slab up recently and read it.  I remember this incident.  Bought this wardog at embark so I could pasture it at the entrance while I set up everything.  It's long dead, now, but it was very helpful in the first year.

Never realized its name was Portalvirgin.   ???

It's appropriate because he was the first creature to ever defend my entrance portal.

My swordsdwarf beheaded a Kea Man. This may not seem worth mentioning, but he did it with a grim sort of grace and panache. There's a decent river bisecting my site, and Kea- and Magpie- people constantly fly around scaring the populace, so I send off my military squad, which consists of 4 marksdwarves and a "cleanup" swordsdwarf. At the end of a particular killing spree, the last Kea Man is shot in the air and falls into the river, unconscious but alive. Takes a few bolts and bleeds a lot as he drags himself back to shore.

There at the river's edge is Litast Cattenilush, the swordsdwarf, who I can only imagine was "setting up his shot" because he golf-swung down at the birdman with a single swing, lopped off its head, which flew up out of the water 4 z-levels before splashing back in the middle of the river, 10 tiles away, and walked off without another thought.

Abandoned due to framerate not finding iron and a large zombie siege.

I couldnt atom smash the human blood waves or stop the waves of crundles; despite many cage traps and a permanent posting the still prove a great nuinsance.

Besides, the site got boring.  Only 4 sieges and an Ettin.  no more cave ogres or anything.  I got tired of launching rocks at goblins and dropping troglodites down a 100z level drop into a pool of water.

So we pack up for a lone evil mountain with an aquifer.

Started a new fort on deep clay, had to dig a few layers. Somehow the miners got trapped down there, and by the time I got them out one had starved. This upset the other miner rather badly and he promptly punched the jeweler to death.

In short, a FUN start so far.

I'm currently playing the masterwork mod.

One of the recent versions introduced tattoos as a means of making dwarves more unique.

I believe this had an unintended side effect though.  Upon embarking on a fairly standard hilly jungle, I take a look at the units list.  One of the 8 carp in the nearby river is described as "She is gigantic with incredible muscles tattooed with pictures of skulls.

Oh dear god.  This carp did time in the clink, and now she's running a small gang in my river.  This... this is horrifying.  This fortress' goal is now to capture this badass carp, plop her into an aquarium in my fort's foyer (made of clear glass, of course), and let every visitor to my fort know precisely what they're dealing with: Even the carp here will mess you up.

DaubedDiamonds has reached 130 dwarfs (30 children), but still hasn't located a vampire yet.
It has two artifact millstones, a dog bone throne, a turkeysploion, a goosesplosion, and a thriving metal industry.
But all I really want is just a vampire.

It also has a floodhall, and lots of dead babies. I never guessed that aquifer powered ramps were so good at removing infants.

Relicshield, 5th Limestone, Early Autumn, Year 258

Two goblin raiding parties attempted to waylay a human caravan.  Led by traitorous dwarves, they were still no match for the forces of Relicshield.

The caravan and diplomat were protected from all hostilities and departed from the fortress safely.  Commander Sphalerite took a moment to commemorate the occasion.
