Elves brought me a Grizzly bear... hello War Training!

That's what DF needs, The gutbuster brigade.  Screw that elf and his cat. Thibbledorf Pwent is the real hero.

Just got my first forgotten beast. Ijat. A winged humanoid made of gems.

He bruised some of my soldiers, but none of them were severely harmed. Ijat however was quickly chopped into parts.

Didn't expect this to get that easy...

I now have puppies!

Had a bit of a blooper with my GCS as I was executing prisoners... my military got webbed *too*. Had to dig a tunnel behind it and move it to a new pasture.

For some reason my FPS dropped from 90 to 45 for no apparent reason. Actually, seeing as this was after the GCS blooper, it might just be all the massive amounts of web. At least I can make tons and tons of Robes and Socks.

Over 100 Urists and nothing but a couple of Thieves and Snatchers. [Although one was a Master] I want something more !!FUN!! to throw my GCS at, among other things and beasties.

Also have a pair of Elk Birds caught, pastured with a Nest Box.

Also, I think the local Elves are badasses, possibly led by a distant relative of Cacame. Their Caravan decided against leaving the fortress 3 Z levels above. They decided to go down about 25~30 Z-levels, and leave through the 2nd Cavern layer.

Stil waiting for something to airlock into my pit.

I recently claimed some space in the first cavern layer and set up some traps.  I moved two squads to train there, and gave them some nearby sleeping quarters and common room (decorated furniture, very nice).  Its mostly for resource collection, so in addition to the cage traps and other defenses, all I have down there is a few stockpiles and 6 looms on auto-repeat collect webs.  Only low-skilled weavers can do this job, my legendary weavers use other looms.

I just built some nest boxes only to realize that I had mistakenly embarked with gobblers instead of hens... All well at least I can salvage some meat out of this.

I inexplicably got bored with my fortress. I decided if I were to end it all I might as well do it in the most !!FUN!! way possible.

So I got into the HFS and now I'm ready for a new fort. Yay!

In my newest fort we've had quite a lot of migrants, and haven't even started working the metal ores yet. Among them are some 30 (yes, I counted) children migrants, who are clogging up my meeting area brushing up their social skills. I decided to use some child labor and put them to work hauling wood and stone, mostly.

Our cook is a master who makes masterpiece roasts from flour and sugar. Sugar roasts! I imagine he had the children in mind for those. Our biggest challenge will be keeping the booze production ahead of demand, as the brook has salt water because we are near the ocean. And none of the caverns seem to have water available.

i had an elf bring in a giant dingo and whip wine seeds.

the more interesting part is that we got ambushed. not by goblins, but by kobolds. slightly tougher to handle since my cage traps couldn't detect them, but the worst part is that i just sent the squad guarding that gate to kill blood men in the underground.

the kobold bowmen shot some raindeer cows and my only cat. then they promptly got destroyed by my military. that'll teach them for invading!

seriously though, my fort needs to kill kobolds more efficently

This is like my 3rd fort.  I'd gotten things up and running quite nicely, was just about to start getting my military preps going after about a year of buying iron, steel, etc. (I find that getting armour together is very hard and time consuming).  Brought a load of coal with me on embark too, so I have tons of that at least.

Was digging down about 30 levels looking for some metal ore and breached a cavern.  Was close to walling it up when I see a giant bat making a beeline for my staircase.  Issue a civilian alert to get to the safe zone, which is the bedroom area.  Everyone gets to the bedroom area, but that's just based around the stairwell.  Giant bat zips up the stairwell, then up into the kitchen area and starts attacking a metalworker dwarf.  Metalworker dwarf is not in a good state.

Drafted an emergency squad containing my 2 miners and woodcutter (at least there are picks and an axe in there...) and sent them to kill the bat.  By the time they reached it, the metalworker dwarf was dead, and the bat had taken a few bruises.  My squad went for the bat.  Quite a bit of blood, but rather shortly my heroic woodcutter smashed his axe through the bat's skull!  Several dwarves with broken bones and dripping blood, next priority is to build a hospital, stat.

The cavern stairwell is now sealed up with a stone floor.  To add insult to injury, I just had a thief stab and injure one of my fisherdwarves too.  Think I'm going to batten down the hatches, close up the front drawbridge, get a hospital built, and then try to clean up the blood.   :o

Pretty awesome.  Esp on the seeds.  I suggest lots of giant war animals.

I just had 30 exceptional or better steel helms get studded with gold, electrum, and brass.  I also made 4 sets of forgotten beast bone helms/gauntlets.  I'll probably give that to the fortress guard squad.  Having those decorated too.  I just started designing a drawbridge-guarded, secure entrance to the second cavern level.  Also setting up the mechanisms for the drainage system of my primary cistern.  And I'm pretty sure that the first clutches of of eggs from my two eagles are unfertilized.

If they go over 3 months without hatching they're unfertilized. I usually give mine 4 months incase they were laid later than I thought.

If the next migrant wave has enough useless haulers, I'll finally have enough non-fortress-critical dwarves to start a military. Soap makers, fishery workers and such. This would probably be the only time I'd be disappointed if a bunch of dwarves with useful skills relevant to my current needs came along.

Although I could use some mechanics and metal workers. My weaponsmith currently handles every stage of trap production, from smelting ore to mechanisms to weapons to installation and maintenance.

The first winter always seems to be a rather frantic time in my forts. Hospital setup, first squad setup, metalworking industry setup, and a massive dorm expansion in preparation for the large migrant waves of the coming year. Busy, busy, busy.

Been doing well with my masterwork fort. caught 2 out of 3 pandas, the female having been mauled by caravan guardsdorfs. Also captured so far are a substantial number of snakes: Rattlesnakes, king snakes, and asps. Also a trio of coati, and a pair of untamable (understandably so) mummies, from a trio that lost one to the Balrog slayer.

A mason crapped out an artifact door, so now I have a legendary mason to supplement the copious amounts of stone that my legendary miners have managed to produce digging out apartments. A badgerdog also tore the head from a kobold and a rattlesnake had a tangle with a marksdwarf that left a surprising amount of blood and vomit all over a building that i can't really recall the purpose of, but some rainfall cleaned that up, along with the "goo" of several unlucky forest imps.

Thanks to the mass production order for bedroom sets, we're ready for when more migrants come, which will probably come in a massive pile.

Brought two hundred rabbits to an evil area.
One got killed, reanimated, then chased the others.
It's as close to a magnetic repulsion field as I've seen in DF.
