I just had about 20 different dwarves get webbed while trying to "retrieve" a wounded hunter who was fighting a GCS.  I sent the 5 military dwarves I had in.  When the dust cleared, two babies and the hunter had died along with the GCS.\

I'm waiting for a tantrum spiral, because the babies were the hunters' and her husband is a legendary miner.

Pricedwalls is dead;- not by clowns or mega-beasts or goblins, but by boredom. 5 years of peace spent trading rock trumpets and old clothes with was too much. According to legends mode the migrant disposal minotaur is still very much alive (with over 1000 kills), so it'll be interesting to see if she ever turns up again.

my execution chamber backfired on me. when i open the door to let the prisoners get destroyed by the military, they promptly escaped to wreck havoc. one of them stabbed a hammerdwarf in the foot and promptly got demolished by an axedwarf.

also, my hospital staff is lazy. my chief medical dwarf is the only one healing my hammerdwarf right now. the rest are slackers.

After they've been captured, invaders are usually in 'get out of here' mode, they'll try their very best to path to the map edge and will in fact try to avoid combat. My game rooms generally were locked after the soldiers had filed in.

And it's always a good idea to take away a victim's weapons if you don't want to risk the health of your troops.

I swear Dwarven Children are just magnetized towards mine cart tracks.  They get hit by them when they have absolutely no business near the damn things.  Their parents are on the other side of the fortress!  On the plus side, the hospital dwarves have got plenty of training.

Bought out most of the human caravan.  My dwarves will get the untold delights of import meat & fish for a couple of months.

They're the same with danger rooms, that's why I train my militia the slow way. Seriously, dwarves are Murphy incarnate.

Busy spring on Carnagegalley.  Goblins finally sieged a year or so ago, but by that time the three well-trained melee squads and two marksdwarf squads with fortifications to sit behind massacred them, and then the second siege the next season.  The ambush squads are being pounded by the patrols and are simply viewed as goblinite harvests.

The bridge over the river was completed.  Brass blocks and glass block railing.

And then another brush titan appeared.  Ozob Masnamato Bonesngon Smuga, a hairy snail with leathery wings - beware his fire.

He came over the north wall and let loose on the livestock while they were still headed for the keep and underground.  The tame honey badgers* enraged and went after the titan, which allowed much of the livestock (pigs and reindeer) to get clear.  While the titan was engaged in toasting badgers the marksdwarves got to the keep fortifications.  About ten crossbow bolt hits later the titan crashed to the ground, followed shortly by a dwarf planting a metal bolt in the titan's brain.  The body then cremated as the western half of the courtyard burned.  (Again.  though after the first brush titan set the courtyard on fire some paved walks were added that serve as firebreaks.)

* - The fortress has third generation trained honey badgers who are fully tame.  Well, it did, since the titan pretty much incinerated most of them.

Currently constructing an experimental superweapon.  Lots and lots of clay boulders are being deposited into the dropchute as a quantum dump.

...work continues...

found a cool new embark spot - terrifying, 3-way river, woodland, and so forth. Military embark! I'll name the place Blackmine, and hey, I'm good enough for this type of challenge. heck, i've warded off hoards of undead with an open fort and nothing but melee dwarves, I can do this.

Oh shit, eagle man corpses harrassing me. Inside everyone! What... they're chasing you around the map. They killed our dogs and now those are undead. Come on living dwarves, kill them! and... transport them off the evil area.

This... isn't working too well.

And now tick man corpses? Well boys, lets show 'em how its' done.

WTF is a Sutemen? "A feathered person with a head and wings of an eagle". Darn, god an undead Sutemen too.

I pause as my last dwarf is being beaten to death by undead to look at their kills. Never did pick up a weaon, but he was still able to kill 1 zombie eagle man, 1 zombie dog, 2 zombie generic dwarves, and Roundpaper the zombie dwarf. Not bad I'd say.

No! No! I will not massacre my children. Instead, I'll make them corpulent on crappy mass-produced quarry bush biscuits and questionably grown mushroom alcohol, and then send them into the military when they turn 12...

had a another goblin siege. two squads of bowmen, two squads of swordsmen and a squad of trolls. because they suck as bowmen, they can't get me through the fortifications, while my marksdwarves can. a would be invasion turned into a shooting range, and the attack was repelled with minimal losses.

i should really start using my other soldiers. i have three squads at the moment doing jack shit except for training, and 5 war dogs along with 4 war grizzlies.

i only have eight marksdwarves, but they're wonderfully effective.

also i recently learned that some items gives you more bars than the amount it takes to smelt it. i'm going to exploit that to train my armorers and weaponsmiths.

Re-caged and then released two spear goblins from the archery pit.  They killed the sterling silver forgotten beast that had been dumped down there.  Since it had no hands or feet all it had was a push attack - but it was killing goblin snatchers and war mounts with relative impunity.  The two spear goblins eventually separated the beast into its component body parts with a final decapitation that knocked the head out of the pit.  Impressive.

Also killed the goblin civilization's master (an elf) when he came to visit with a siege.  Crossbow bolt to the head.  His decorated robe is having a silk label attached and then will be sent on to the Mountainhome as a gift for the queen.

My trained rutherers have produced two children. Domestic rutherers are but years away now! At the same time the Quarry in Silentthunders is nearly complete. The lower levels are being hollowed out carefully. If everything is engineered just right, when the second and third cavern layer ceilings fall on it the lowest level of the Quarry should punch all the way down into the SMR.

As you make your way to the office of the mayor of Wordsbuckle, you are delighted to walk along a path, adorned with glorious carvings.
I must say, Wordsbuckle is a good name for a Fortress. May you avert chaos and disorder for as long as possible at this junction.

My long-running 31.25 Fortress defence fort, Stormrack has entered it's 99th year, both mega-projects are completed, broke the clown car, sterilized the surface of all life, probably at least around 25k dead units in the list, !!SCIENCED!! some discoveries, I'm fairly certain Kogsak is over 5000 notable kills now, she's led the military from day one. Planning a tour next spring.

So, after WorldGen and Site Idenfification, I've moved onto 'What so I want to do in Amok's name?'

Usually, I like doing stuff with animals. In fact, I prefer to weaponize animals and traps than Military. [Because whenever I make a military they go insane from 'long duty hours' regardless of me giving them time off or not, or failing that die to a lone Crundle somehow.]

I have settled into an 'Execution Pit', which can be used for Migrants and Prisoners alike!

The idea is to capture cavern animals in cages, and tame some for 'military' purposes, and taming some others to be placed in the 'airlock', likely involving bridges, and then released into the 'Pit' when wild again, with the airlock sealed behind them. There may be three airlocks so replacements can be prepared while the wild-ification happens.

The pit itself will be a moderate sized room, with a grate, and three lanes leading into it, with no way out. Each lane will be a chute, with a retracting bridge placed over a channel a few Z levels above it, to dump the victims in. Except one lane.

The third lane is the kill switch, where water or Magma will promptly flood the room, and drown all those inside.

The only issue I see with this idea so far is the drop system, and moving caged prisoners. I've had issues before getting a bridge to 'drop' stuff down like Goblins in cages, and I don't know how to 'pit' stuff. I know retracting a bridge and burrows can be used to send Dorfs to their demise.

So, does this method of executions seem sufficiently Dorfy? A rampage can also make !!FUN!! happen with levers. [Also help with pitting Goblins]
