Finally returned to DF after a half year of occasionally jumping on-and-off.

Had some fun building a massive tower up into the sky, pumping lava, and turning the entire fortress into a lava filled death-land. started a war with the elves, but screw the elves :D. I'd forgotten how fun (and !!FUN!!) DF was.

Bustygifts has recovered from its 160-death tantrum spiral. The living adults return to work, thankfully.

Dutchling begins haunting Scriver II, who mandates a window in fright.
Miauw begins haunting Scriver II, who does nothing.

Dutchling, Miauw, among others are laid to rest.

A snatcher captures a baby, stabs it in the chest, then puts it back in his bag. Shinotsa and his army of weak dwarves catch him, and all three receive a stab to the thigh. They wander off crying.

The first reservoir is being drained so we can get the eight corpses that fell into the reservoir out.

Well, Fortresspelt only just clings to life. After securing lodgings i sent the miners to find the caverns to chop some wood, and boy did they find
them, so i send the wood cutters to gather some lumber for beds, when they are attacked by a giant bat, panicking i draft all 10 dwarves to kill the bat. The battle was hard fought, and 3 dwarves were lost, they also happened to be the most popular dwarves in the fort, que tantrum spiral, the only person unaffactid was a miner who knew nobody, however he was slain by a beserker, then a migrant wave! I thought i was saved, then a cave croc came up from the caverns and proceaded to rip the migrants to shreads, then promptly leaving the map, at this point i had 5 dwarves left, and a fortress full of miasma and rutherers, i then drafted all of them in an attempt to take back the fort, which sorta worked, now im down to 2 dwarves, an animal caretaker who is making coffins for the dead, and a footless carpenter, who will not just grab a crutch from the stockpile right next to him.

EDIT: Animal caretaker went insane and killed the carpenter. That was freaking awesome!

Autumn has come and I didn't make bedrooms yet. I started farming plump helmets and I constructed a still, a carpenter's workshop, a wood furnace, a kiln and other workshops related to stones and gems. I've finished my wooden wall, and now I have to construct some bedrooms and a dinning room.

I'm proud of my current fortress :D

The first major ring, the Hall of Legends, has been dug out, smoothed and engraved, and the central channel is about half full of river water. Made sure to include a pressure valve, just in case of overfilling.

Bedroom ring is being smoothed now, which is quite a bit of an undertaking considering the massive amount of area my 2 engravers have to work on.

Population is steady at 41, about 8 of those are babies or children, all native born.

Some asshole elven diplomat has come, saying that I have been butchering trees and that they would act if I did more.

What ? I must have cut maybe 5 trees maximum in the whole year... hell make that 10 trees in 2 years... and they were underground trees. I'm in a completely treeless, plantless desert.

I didn't know what he was talking about, so I used him for target practice for my marksdwarf squad.

I hope they siege me, so i get more foes to slay and shed blood in Armok's name, as well as war animals to take. It'll just be incredibly obnoxious to dump all the wooden crap they will bring.

Silentthunders news report:

Ravens attack, several injured. Industry slams to a halt as the winged undead descend upon the farms and the smelters; 21 marksdwarves, 6 speardwarves and 4 hammerdwarves were sent to retaliate against this unusual southern incursion. One Dwarf is in a critical condition:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Cerol Giftedirons, a great farmer caught in a vortex of ravens was brutally savaged; having not received military training due to his civilian status and wish to better fully support Fortress logistics causing as a result for him to be almost defenceless.
It is currently believed the ravens were attracted to the Wild Buffalo roast and the lone target Cerol provided by eating alone in one of the unfinished towers of the Fort in Silentthunders. We would like to remind you that eating alone in the open is incredibly dangerous and should be attempted by no one without arms, armour and the proper training to survive in this cruel world.
Cerol's struggle was heard by Captain Edem Fealtycrafted, who promptly found Cerol fending off two vicious birds of prey with a third dead one still in his grip.

The arriving reinforcements killed off the remaining demons. Questioned on if Cerol will survive this encounter, Doctors Oakchanneled and Bloodmachine cannot comment. An eagle chick has been sacrificed in the hopes that Edem Bronzetake or Medtob Clashwill or any good fortune shall save him and allow him to continue growing his beloved plants.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Baron Muthkat is the first to respond, bringing Cerol to the citadel hospital in full armour.

THIS IS WHY HE'S THE BARON

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The Dwarves waiting outside the hospital. Time will tell.

so this is new, to me.

Doing some demon testing, trying to figure out what is really dangerous, and what is trivially killed off...

I see the following in the combat log:

The Mebzuth Kivishthum's corpse strikes The Ash Ghost in the right front leg and the severed part sails off in an arc!
The (brown recluse spider silk shoe) strikes The Ash Ghost in the lower body, breaking away a piece of the tissue!
The (llama wool sock) strikes The Ash Ghost in the left rear leg, breaking away a piece of the tissue!
The (brown recluse spider silk shoe) strikes The Ash Ghost in the right rear leg, breaking away a piece of the tissue!
The (llama wool sock) strikes The Ash Ghost in the left rear leg, breaking away a piece of the tissue!
The (alpaca wool right glove) strikes The Ash Ghost in the left front leg, breaking away a piece of the tissue!
The (alpaca wool left glove) strikes The Ash Ghost in the head, breaking away a piece of the tissue!
The (brown recluse spider silk cap) strikes The Ash Ghost in the upper body, breaking away a piece of the tissue!
The (brown recluse spider silk robe) strikes The Ash Ghost in the upper body, breaking away the rest of the tissue!

...
clothing attacking? ... no... apparently somehow the body and all this clothing fell or was propelled toward The Ash Ghost with enough force that it harmed it?  Even though all this combat is taking place on flat ground.

Exploding corpse?  Are there effects (from dust) that would cause a corpse to explode with enough force to harm a demon?  Would one demon grab a corpse and throw it at another?  Would a "deadly dust" cloud move a corpse and all the clothing?  Gotta love it, whatever it is!  :P

I've successfully solved a problem of starvation. I'd only one farmer all the time with three 3x3 farming spots, and now I've three farmers planting plump helmets all the time. And I only have 19 citizens. Next step: solving my problem with booze :P

EDIT: Now the number of dwarves is 39. 20 new citizens in one migration wave :o

Holy fuck that is the most awesome epithet ever.

Would have been more fitting with a melee dwarf, but still hell yeah !

I have an artifact that's eternally on fire, because I can't put it out and it's impossible to damage . . .
