Oen would expect that the Goblins should freeze to death over time on that glacier if left outside.

... I am losing important dwarves to 1-z falls when channelling a large hole.. I mean, what the hell ? One of my legendary war miners and soldiers has damaged his spine and suffocated to death.

I think I should channel with upward ramps instead of downward.

Plungestandards has now had its first lethal training 'incident', where a Wrestler was brutally murdered by an aggressive obstacle that collided with him. (The militia captain throwing him into said obstacle is blameless, and has not received formal credit for the kill)

Still, this should encourage the remaining wrestler trainees to improve their skills, so that they get transferred out of the wrestler squads and into the proper militia before ending up in our graveyard.

My queen came! For the first time ever! She is a skilled macedwarf, her consort is a skilled spear dwarf and they brought four legendary hammerdwarves. I had to improvise some quarters. The Duke Necromancer's throne room served as virtually everything for the queen, while her proper home was being carved.

It is still in progress, occupying the second cavern. Nothing that isn't an artifact or masterwork goes inside. No masterwork goes inside without having out finest jewelers (total crap) and bonecrafters (2 legendaries) decorate it.

The dinning room comes with a private kitchen and sill crewed by the best cooks and brewers in the fort.

The office is four stories high, includes a pool of water, a level-operated death trap and a mist generator (with an accompanying reactor hidden in the stonework above)

The training grounds are made in a spiral of green glass, in a dome built right into the cavern.

However, while I was busy making the queen's life as wonderful as possible, the necromancers almost rioted. A lack of shoes and pants has apparently again become a problem, and the Duke's champion broke their danger room, which means I will need to let the peasant mechanics into the sacred quarters again. Now if I can just keep the human ambassador zombies occupied...

Orbtalon finally fell to a tantrum spiral after my hopelessly untrained Speardorfs got massacred by a goblin squad (note to self: set custom uniforms to "Exact Match" in the future!) and then The Dead Were Walking. Closed up everything tight and watched them brutally murder each other.

Of course, I inadvertently managed to cage trap the necromancer so the undead didn't leave when the siege "ended".

Reclaimed, and finally gave into DFhack and locked the remaining wandering zombies in obsidian so I could reclaim without my poor dorfs fleeing in terror and/or death. (After the third try getting them inside the fortress, mind. They're slow, but jussst fast enough to be a problem I can't solve.)

Been a few years, up to 95 now. My legendary blacksmith and two others drowned in my well before I wised up and deconstructed the damn thing. I'm improving the well reservoir now to include an off-map drain and a bridge gate instead of the original floodgates.

Waited out another necromancer siege. Also discovered that bone bolts, while usually useless for combat, work really well against generic zombies.

Built a small danger room. Had a dwarf get to level 20 Fighter and Spearlord from proficient in about two weeks. Going to expand it so I can fit an entire squad in there next.

Some notes: Orbtalon has tons of tetrahedrite and hematite, but I haven't found any cassiterite and the flux layer the map finder promised me has yet to be found. Going with iron for the time being, ordering lots of flux from my contact. Going to upgrade to steel spears.

Other then hiding underground from the massive zombie party at my door and turning what silver I can find into warhammers, not much.

Just had a baby llama get both ears ripped off by a giant peach-faced love bird.

I'm working on learning how to pit.  To this point my arena was stocked by building cages, attaching them to levers and pulling.  This should be tons simpler, but I'm still learning how to make it work.

Note: This is a heavily bastardized LOFR mod, made for myself, with zerg and ponys. Zerg have tough chitin, and biological weapons, while ponies have steel, and some magic.
Just got a migrant wave, and the horses had launched a siege, so I just dumped the migrants into squads, and sealed up the fortress. I deployed the forces, and hoped that they would somehow survive. I had one survivor, who has a name out of legends. Olon Ironblood. He killed a total of: 43 earth ponies, 48 unicorns, 22 pegasi, 3 alicorns, and a rainbow dash and fluttershy based rare caste. The dash died by having the wings broken, and then having the neck broken. The fluttershy got all four legs severed. This dwarf, by himself, killed a entire siege, with only the migrants to help. The rest were slaughtered. This dwarf must be a reincarnation of the captain, for what other dwarf could take a single steel axe, and wipe a siege with competent axedwarf? I mean, at one point he stabbed a unicorn with a broken-off horn! This guy just kicked pony ass.

Toying with the danger room concept.
I have not yet understood it, and I keep having a lot of recruits instead of sworddwarves.

Use training spears, slap a helmet and a weapon on him and he'll be dodging and parrying like mad.

Or you can do as I did: draft all men to the military, set all women to the regular jobs.
Send all the men to the danger room with exactly 1 shield and regular clothes.
Lose two thirds of your men, honor the survivors.

They get pretty badass too. Just had a FB in the third cavern layer (fort is 2 years old, 30 dwarves strong). It escaped somehow. I was pretty sure I had blocked all paths? Anyway, this FB gets on a rampage and is moving quickly up the main exploratory shaft. I got to know about it because I saw an annoucment about one of my craftdwarves getting killed while making glass serrated disks.
So I send my military. They all have their (wooden) shield, their clothes, and nothing else.
Well, the fight was rather short. The FB got brained by a kick very very fast.
I was really surprised.

A dragon wandered unto my  map. Joy!
Naturally I wanted to catch it. So I started by locking up my fort.
But  apparently I had forgotten to build a bit of wall, so there was a diagonal connection at my outer upper level. Near my trading depot. Where the humans were. With crossbows.

Dragon roast for everyone?
