This site has a lot of metals...

Garnierite, cassiterite, magnetite, native gold, sphalerite, tetrahedrite, galena, hematite have all been found so far.

Also marble flux within easy reach and a ton of gems.  I suspect that means some malachite, I also ran into some granite layers so maybe native copper as well.  Need to run prospector when I get done with work.

Do you always look at it in ASCII?

You get used to it, I don't even see the ASCII.  All I see is blacksmith, miner, goblin.

The seasons turned, the year changed, and three cats died of old age. That's a problem because their owner immediately showed a flashing red arrow. Poor Mafol Borushdodok has only passing acquaintances. Well he also has a wife, four children, a pet peacock and 14 pet cats. Erm, make that 11 pet cats now.

So I built my most blinged out statue in his bedroom. The statue itself, at over 65000 dwarfbucks is worth more than most of my artifacts. The description won't even fit on a full screen. It was enough to instantly upgrade the lowly hauler's room from "Quarters" to "Royal Bedroom". The duke will not be happy, even though it is a silver statue of the Duke himself, relating to his elevation to the barony in year 7. Well, the duke is currently ecstatic and only makes easily filled mandates for crutches and short swords. I think he'll cope.

Apparently, there's a shortage of menacingly, spiky thongs in the fort.

EDIT: News has spread to the goblins of our thong conglomerate and now they're trying to peruse our thongs en masse.

Embarked in a hot jungle using Genesis Mod in a fortress called RoarWind. Surrounded by exotic trees and animals. Immediately set to work taking an axe to it all for the Queen(civ has one). Feels like the British Empire. And it feels good.

Every miner was injured digging the trap pit, as they channeled out the tile beneath them, and dropped down to several broken limbs. One guy was healed up almost immediately upon receiving treatment, and was injured again when a previously collapsed piece of natural stone suddenly exploded in a cave-in, despite being a single tile being channeled from above.

Have had three deaths. One to a Deep Crow. One to a Roc. And one because a large pile of logs fell on him while he was removing some scaffolding.

Just had a military dwarf kill his wife, who at the time was in a berserk rage attacking their baby. Here's his thoughts:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I had all the things she needed for her strange mood, but apparently she needed specific types I didn't have or something. I worked really hard to get her what she needed, but she went insane anyway.

But seriously. He killed his wife and doomed his baby and he's ecstatic. It's a wonder what legendary food and drink can do.
Funniest thing is "took joy in slaughter". He loved murdering his wife.
Looking at his personality traits, I might suspect he's a closet psychopath.

Well hell, if I saw a hot young dwarfette in that, I'd be like "th-th-th-thong!!" myself.

Journal of Kotonoa, 28th Granite, yr.453
First Previous Next

The new year has brought new challenges. Miyuki KR, a miner from our original expedition, mysteriously died of suffocation while in the meeting hall. We all mourned, and her body had a militia escort to the magma chute. Now we are down to roughly 30 adults and 10 children here.

We have been trying to hook-up our waterfall system, so that everyone might cheer up. But when Rin went to take down an old bridge, a zombie greeted him. Thankfully Rin fled right back towards the meeting hall, and Mizore intercepted the zombie. It was slain, but Mizore was hit pretty hard in the ribs.

I decided to grab a new outfit - my old clothes are getting worn. At that time I found that our clothing is unimpressive, and our novice dyer has only just begun practicing. I also heard that migrants were being slaughtered on the surface...

Oh hey, another useless clothing item I don't need! (This time a Reindeer leather tunic.)

Still haven't been attacked yet, and I'm early third year with a fortress worth half a million dwarfbucks.

Edit: Spoke too soon. Just got a goblin siege right as an elven caravan was making into my fort. Bringing in my hunters and stationing my squads. This should be fun.

It does make one wonder exactly where the image of chestnuts is located though.

A quiet year in Waterspear.  No sightings of kobolds or goblins.  The local wildlife is being benign as well, with ravens doing kamikaze dives into weapon traps and bored sentries on patrol taking pot shots at passing owls.

Two groups of migrants have brought the fortress population over 160.  The mayor will petition for Mountainhome status when the next liaison arrives.  Assuming the current one ever leaves!

Only two children among the thirty who arrived.  Rest are primarily being sent to do hauling work and assigned to reservist squads for basic training and equipment.  However, the fortress did get two more multi-skill "Industrialists", a good gem carver, and also another master weapon smith and master armor smith.  On the military side the militia welcomed two more legendary fighters (sword and xbow) as well as another ten mid-level fighters in various weapons for filling out squads to backup the heavy hitters.  The "sniper squad" of elite marksdwarves is now up to five with the recent arrival and also a few being promoted after making Master Level while helping to pincushion a series of goblin ambush teams.

The river froze for a few weeks and this was used as an opportunity to cross the ice and lay a bridge foundation on the south side.  Currently the marble arch spanning the stream is about 2/3 complete and should be finished off shortly.  Paving the road to and beyond the bridge has been deferred until a material is selected and stockpiled.  And the masons are busy with other projects in any case.

It will probably just be clay brick, but that will require starting the brickworks back up (it is currently handling a back supply of fire clay to make pots and also glazing our supply of earthernware pots.)

Windmills were put up on the Inner Bailey roof and are now powering a mist generator at the front entrance that also sprays out some mist into a few of the barracks as well.  Already helping clean off militia returning from fights in the outer works.  Wind is not strong in this area, so it took half a dozen mills to generate the power with a little to spare.

The fortress is currently abundantly supplied for the most part.  The main shortage is still non-economic stone for secondary items such as basic furnishings such as doors, tables, and chairs.  Some metal is being used, but this is mainly being decorated and saved for the noble's rooms.

The main downside projects are excavations and modifications to take on the Clown Car.  Trap corridors are being planned, as well as a "checkerboard" to help winnow their numbers.  And the militia continues training and getting equipped for this fight.  The confrontation is still a ways away since there is still a lot of preparation to do.

Artifact generation has been fairly boring.  All possessions so far and mainly generating mundane items like clothing and a millstone.  The latter will probably be hooked up to the power system and used to help the millers keep up with the farm produce.  Some bee hives were installed and are producing since a number of dwarves are fond of mead.  The glass jugs of royal jelly are being traded to the elves for more sand bags to make further glass items.

Aaaand they're back for more thongs. Big thongs for the cave dragons. Time to test the almost-finished Gauntlet. But first, let's just sit back and watch some good ol' fashioned elven genocide.

EDIT: Also Rithul? That's their Master/Administrator/Civ Leader. She's a rabbit on a giant rat.

I was wrong about my first casualty. It was a black bear, not the Deep Crow. Deep Crow caused no dwarven fatalities. Lost two more, though. One to a Tangperral Monk, and the other to a single-squad siege of beastmen wrestlers(arm was bitten, shaken, then bled to death). Siege was then ripped apart be dwarves with weapons, includind the black bear their leader was riding.

Now dealing with a Lizardfolk siege just chilling at the map edge. Not sure how to deal with them. They won't attack our fortified position and one of them breathes fire.
