First evil fortress, only about half the map was evil, the other half was quite nice looking.
Nothing especially bad wandering around, animated corpses but they went down pretty easy.
Unfortunately I messed up in the process of digging out lignite and breached the aquifer (it only covered half the map, the evil half) and flooded the metal working level as well as all points downwards. Emergency patch jobs made things worse and killed half the fortress, the rest started tantruming.
I found lava down below and was preparing to migrate everybody down there when Giant Elkbird Corpses attached and killed another 25% of the fortress.
At that point I realized that my emergency drain had filled an entire cavern level and the water was rising in the second level, that's when I said to hell with it after contemplating the upcoming FPS issues and abandoned.

It was going great up till then, too.
I was at the point of sealing off the above ground areas and subsisting down below (for the first time, I'm still a noob here), had a military that could actually kill something more threatening than a groundhog. It probably would have helped if I'd thought a little more before putting my refuse pile in the evil half.
Oh well. There's only one thing to do! Another evil embark!
(Good/calm embarks lack definable challenge, the challenge is in keeping the 200+ dorfs happy, macro sized micromanagement is less entertaining than it could be)

I believe DF is ACTIVELY trying to kill off my forts. I just got ambushed 8 TIMES in 30 seconds. That's not an ambush That is a stealth Siege. I've got most of the fort locked down atm except for the main stocks, all my bedroom's with doors are locked.... waiting this out.

I've gone from 65 to 12.... wow
Only one of my starting seven is still alive. Okay they're leaving now.

The Hoomans are mad now, their diplo got kileld in my mayor's quarters, I forgot to close one of the doors.

Aaaaaand.... ANOTHER AMBUSH last 12 are dead.... crap.

Apparently husking mists can just spawn anywhere. My dwarves were totally safe in my walled-off area until unholy fog materialized right inside my compound.

This is both awesome and horrifying.

I wish I could grasp that kind of thing. I really wanna make a weapon/creature representing guy with weapon that shoots a glass mist that destroys lungs.

Or maybe one that fires acursed ashes at enemies and turns them into mindless harmless messes....

A breath attack with a syndrome to damage the lungs and one that sets their stats ridiculously low respectively. Not too complex.

Got frustrated with assigning a haul, for a minecart.  So I decided to decon all the Tracks.  And Woah Bessy!  Will you look at that?  Priority!  Track removal is right up there with Haul to Depot.  It got removed really fast, and seems to have consumed the building blocks...  Hardly any were leftover. :-[

Caught another Giant King-Snake, I now have a breeding pair. *Dwarf Glee*

The best Animal Trainer in the fort has done his good work and now, locked in a compound, the Female Giant King-Snake has claimed the nest-box and is incubating a clutch of six Giant King-Snake eggs.

:D

The training of captured enemy Voracious Cave Crawlers goes on, being enemy creatures I doubt i could ever release them from their cages but setting them to be trained is slowly increasing the Fort's familiarity with the species.

I currently have a giant sponge in a year long battle with undead thrips people.
Bits of undead everywhere....
How lucky are you. I think you may have stumbled onto the perfect way of taking down large masses of zombies. Neutralize them with a giant sponge.

Its actually been a really easy settle because of that sponge.
Now that I have everyone inside and some migrants I want to find a way to get back that corner of the map,  any ideas on how to reroute/ block  a river to drown the sponge  ?

Drown a Sponge? I though they were aquatic creatures?

Best you could do is to Wall up a Pen and put a sacrificial Kitten/Puppy/whatever on a chain and use a Lever or presure-plate to raise a drawbridge behind it. ( can giant sponges destroy buildings? )

Air-drown, he means. Aquatic creatures get the DROWNING tag if they're in air.

Well the quick way would be to just tunnel under the thing and dig up, maybe get a glass cage-trap setup?
